Crytek has started a new dev diary series for their upcoming VR game, The Climb. The first episode takes a deep dive into how the game got started as a unique rock climbing simulator.

The video shows how the simple concept of looking where you want to grab in real-life rock climbing inspired the idea of a VR game that emulates that experience. It also shows the latest gameplay footage from the game, noting how much The Climb has evolved from its early builds. You can watch the dev diary below.

The Climb was announced late last year, and will feature real-life rock climbing locations such as Vietnam's Halong Bay. Crytek is using their proprietary CryEngine to recreate these locations in as much detail as possible.

The Climb is in development for Oculus Rift, and is planned for release around the time that the Oculus launches.
