XCOM Developer Diary Number One

2K Games just released a new video developer diary for XCOM, the intense sci-fi thriller being developed by 2K Marin.

In this developer diary, the team talks about the origins of XCOM and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the series re-imagined story before giving us a peak behind the doors at the top-secret XCOM Headquarters.

  • X-COM sounded awesome as an investigation type adventure game with FPS elements, so I'm hoping it doesn't go too far in the shooter side, but either way it looks very fun.

  • *ahem* PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP PLEASE DON'T F*** IT UP.
  • Still looking intresting, but I'm still not sold on it yet.  I'm still hopeful though.

  • This looks tiiiiiiiight!

  • Well...the game looks better, obviously. Not just in a "its a year later" kinda way. But it was admirable of them to delay the title and inject some of the old game's strategy elements, and the hub world, the RPG mechanics, etc. That being said, they should just call it something else. Setting this thing in the 60's - a weird, half-as*ed, "stylized, but not quite" version of the 60's no less - is really dumb. It's really clearly a call made from some exec at Take Two who saw Bioshock's success, didn't understand it and demanded this game adapt a similar anachronistic setting. That's a shame. I never played X-Com on the PC back in the day. But I can understand why people are pissed. Heck, just seeing that Take Two JUST HAD to make this a first person game makes me angry. I'm getting sick of that sh**. I'm SUPER SICK of the sh*t-for-brain gamers - the ones who only seem to play Madden, Call of Duty and zombie games - informing these large publishers. NOT EVERY GAME NEEDS TO BE IN FIRST PERSON. Especially one named after a decidedly third person strategy game. I would not mind if this sort of bombed at retail. But hey - it's in first person and it has shooting, so I'm sure it'll sell 3 million copies overnight with a healthy, aggressive ad campaign. *sigh*
  • i often forget this game is coming out, but every time they release a new video or info on it i get excited about it.

  • Not really sure what to think of the game. In some gameplay snippets it just seems like your generic shooter, but in other ones it seems to take on an entirely different persona, one of a psychological thriller and RPG-based experience.

  • This game actually looks good. I just might get this game.

  • I hope that they do the original justice, I am looking forward to another great story driven fps.
