You Will Be Able To Listen To The Soundtrack In Sleep Mode

The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. will let you listen to the game's soundtrack while the handheld is in sleep mode.

Along with being able to listen to the game's diverse soundtrack in the game's sound test mode, which will contain both new, old, and remixed music, you will be able to listen to character voices, and set up special playlists. You will also be able to close the system, keep listening to music, and using the 3DS' should buttons to track forward and backward song to song. It essentially turns your 3DS into a dedicated Nintendo music MP3 player.

Game director Masuhiro Sakurai breaks down the new music options in more detail on the Miiverse here. Sakurai also confirms that select music tracks will be coming to the official Super Smash Bros. website, soon.

  • That's pretty cool. Too bad the headphone jack is in the middle of the system and therefore won't fit in my pocket.
  • Super cool.

  • Mod

    Woo, this is wonderful!

  • One word: YEAH!

  • I wish more 3ds games did this.

  • That's great. Edit: Did you see the the names of all those who contributed to the 3DS sountrack? My god, nearly shed a tear at all that greatest.
  • This was the best news from last week's pics of the day.

  • They had better put the soundtrack on itunes for this game.

They are doing so for ALL pokemon games, if they don't... well they just prove their stupidity again, and loose out on a lot of money.

  • For the first 6-8 months that I got my 3DS I used it as my primary music player as I had lost my iPod. The default music player is pretty good except for that you can't skip tracks without opening it and the volume has a really low cap.

  • I remember being able to do this with the Sky Jukebox in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explores of Sky ahhh good times.

This'll be a neat feature, so glad I'm getting this ^^

  • GROOVY! I listened to BlazBlue's soundtrack off my 3DS in the car, but had to keep it open sitting inside of the center console. Not ideal, but it worked.

  • Um... that is either fantastic or terrible, because a 3DS XL isn't exactly the best size for a pocket. And those L and R buttons could get hit. Other than that, I love this idea.
