The lights are on
A few years ago, XGen Studios released their flash game Motherload (play it here). The free game was set on Mars and players were tasked with mining the red planet for profit. Xgen Studios wants to go bigger and better with Super Motherload on the PS4.
This time around, XGen Studios is trying for a B movie sci-fi story set in an alternate Cold War era. Players can expect to encounter Soviets and Americans alike on Mars in this twisted version of the space race.
The story is told through voice-acted transmissions and comic book style cutscenes. Things are not as they seem, and the player can discover what is happening beneath the crust.
Check out the first trailer below for a wonderful live-action trailer. Spoiler: fake Russian accents are the best.
Super Motherload stays true to its flash game roots. The arcade-style mining game lets players zip around beneath the surface of mars, dropping bombs, sucking up valuable minerals, and upgrading your mining rig into an unstoppable beast (think Fern Gully).
You can play the game by yourself or with up to three friends. The multiplayer is local only. While this might be an issue with some players, XGen Studios says it was designed for that “couch co-op style of gameplay that we love and miss so much.”
Super Motherload uses the trackpad on the PS4 to conveniently switch between bomb types. Below is the control set-up for the game. Using the trackpad for Super Motherload looks surprisingly simple. Though if players don't want to use trackpad (or are playing it on the PS3), they don't have to.
GI editor Tim Turi had a blast playing Super Motherload at this year’s Game Developers Conference. You can see his preview or check out the trailer below for some more gameplay.
Super Motherload will launch with the PS4 on November 15. The release date for the PS3 version has not been confirmed yet. Check out what other games will launch with Sony’s new console here.

I played it at the Sony store last week. The game seems much better suited for the Vita than the PS4.
This totally made me flash back to Crazy Ivan...
This looks like really good couch co-op play, will probably be picking this up the first week.
"He is in better place" lifts helmet "I am in better place" lol
Looks sweet. Couch Co-Op is my fav. Nothing like chilling with bros and gaming all day. :o
This game reminds me of a cross between DigDug and Worms.
I beat Motherload a couple times... Great Game.
Super Motherload looks good... I'm sure I'll play it.
Never heard of it before. It looks okay.
Have anyone played the Flash Version of this game years ago?
