The lights are on
As it turns out, Mario and the gang look great in HD. This batch of screens also gives us a better look at the new cat suit.
Also, I know Nintendo is saying it's a cat "transformation" not a cat suit but I don't care. Other than that, the game is looking fantastic.

Man this game is beautiful!
Looks good for a Wii U game. You can tell Nintendo worked to make it vibrant and filled it with bloom filters. Still going to be standard Mario fare.
And this is hardly the best looking game of the year or all time. Maybe as a personal best for Nintendo, but that's all.
This game just gets better and better.

I want this game so badly!
Damn this game is going to be fun, and it looks amazing.
I dunno. I don't think it looks so hot. I mean, the art style - yeah it looks fine. Clean, colorful, the usual - I'd like to see a new one, but whatever.
But compare this to pretty much any other cartoony HD game - whether that be Kameo, Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Sonic Generations, Ratchet, Sly Cooper 4 or any of the last couple LEGO games - and it just looks boring. I mean, Kameo was a launch title for the 360 and it's far more impressive. The lighting in Mario 3D World is very unambitious for a game in 2013, and the environments are very bland. There's not a lot going on out there, and it's mostly a bunch of segmented, individual playspaces again, like in 3D Land or Galaxy.
It could be better looking. A lot better looking. If only Nintendo paid attention to some of the technology advances that had gone on these past 7 years... or at least, EAD Tokyo and most of their other teams. The teams making Mario Kart 8, Xenoblade 2 and the next gen Zelda seem to know what's up.
No game should look this good. It's a sin against nature.

Yeah I must say, Mario has taken really well to HD. It looks much better than I expected.
