StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void goes into closed beta on March 31, and there's a host of new multiplayer features fans will be able to explore should they be lucky enough to get in. High on the list is the Protoss new ranged unit, the Adept. We've got new details on this newcomer, along with a slew of screenshots from the beta.

Several new units have already been confirmed for Legacy of the Void, such as the Zerg's Ravager and Lurker, and the Terran's missile-firing Cyclone tank. Unfortunately, the Terran's bipedal HERC unit has been cancelled due to its overlap with another similar unit.

The Adept is a ground-based ranged Protoss unit that tosses a glowing disc weapon at enemies. The energy frisbee then chains between enemies, handily dealing damage to a small group. She can also teleport to a safe spot thanks to her psionic projection ability. The Adept keeps fighting while the player moves around a translucent hologram of herself, which she teleports to after 10 seconds. Sounds like a nifty feature for hit and run against enemy units.

Check out the screenshot above to get a glimpse at the Adept using her energy disc to take out multiple enemies. Be sure to also look at the rest of the screens in the media gallery below.
