I didn't spend very long on the New York Comic Con floor, but I wanted to make sure I saw the latest footage of South Park: The Stick of Truth. Ubisoft had a 10-minute video on display showing off a couple of turn-based battles and  the over world.

Unfortunately, this wasn't an interactive demonstration with hands-on, or one demoed by a human being. The battles moved very quickly, and I was able to pick out active moments similar to the Mario RPG series.

It's possible to wound enemies in the overworld in advance of battle. In the demo, the "new kid" throws farts at foes, engages with elves buffed by Jimmy the Bard, and gets called some terrible names by Cartman.

The video went too quickly, and it was hard to get a sense for the different choices available in combat. At its heart South Park: The Stick of Truth is a menu-based RPG, but there seems to be nuance that is hard to discern without a closer look.

With only two months before release, we haven't yet seen much of South Park: The Stick of Truth. Hands-on time with its combat, a deeper exploration of the overworld play, and better understanding of the customization and choices available to players would go a long way to assuaging concerns.

Obisidian has shown off its near-religious adherence to the source material. Now it's time to let us see the game underneath. I still don't know if South Park: The Stick of Truth is a game I want to play, or if I'm better off watching my favorite episodes again.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is due out on December 10, 2013, for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
