It was 2008, and Sonic fans were creeping out of the shadows, Sonic Unleashed was announced. On almost every system, Sonic Unleashed was a sign of progress... On the 360 and PS3, on the Wii, (I can't believe I'm saying this, but) It was a step BACKWARD.

Let me explain, Sonic Unleashed is two different games. The true HD version, and this retarded piece of crap. The story is... bleh. Eggman uses the power of the Chaos emeradls (using Sonic) to split open the planet to unleash "Dark Gaia," a beast that destroys the planet every Million years. (T_T) Anyway, Sonic is turned into... a werehog? But werewolf means "manwolf" so... Sonic is a manpig?

Upon waking up on earth, Sonic find a small little... Fairydog thing who has amnesia (because amnesia has worked SO well for the series before), and Sonic wants to help him get his memory back, and return the planet back to normal. A while later it turns out the Critter (nicknamed Chip) is Light Gaia, and has to return the planet back to normal. So Sonic and Chip infiltrate Eggmanland (T_T) and stop try to stop Robotnik once and for all. I wont spoil what happens next, but my video review explains the rest (Link at the bottom).

The wii's graphics are VERY poor for this game, why you ask? Mario Galaxy looks amazing, Brawl looks amazing, SONIC COLORS LOOKS AMAZING, it seems so half @$$ed, the cutscenes (taken from the HD counterpart) are good though. In terms of music... Other than a few tracks, the soundtrack is forgettable. Voice acting? Improved, but still kind of bad. (Chip: Who am I? I don't remember! *like 5 seconds later* Sonic: WHAT? You forgot who you are? T_T).

The most important aspect, Gameplay, is utter BALLS! Sonic's day sections, while decent, seem so half baked, and lazly done, that as a whole seems to suck more than Sonic 06's Sonic Stages (except for the snow boarding, that was godawful). The werehog... Is clunky, dull and repetative. Bad platforming, mashing the crap out of the shoulder buttons (or waving your arms around like someone having a sezure) die, repeat. And his traction... Its like luigi, walking on Ice, but EVERYWHERE!

The hub worlds, potential the worst part, are menu based, for which I am gratefull. You can speed right through them. And the game is SSSOOO much longer that it has to be, with like 4 10 minute werehog stages per level, it takes WAY TOO LONG! And the boss battles are just meh, nothing exciting, the final boss also reeks of laziness.

I do not own the 360 version, but it looks MILES better than this version, its the difference between Night and day... No pun intended, if it wasI think I would explode.

This version... while there is fun to be had, Its mainly from your friends laugh at you rage quit. Meh graphics, decent music, and messy gameplay, nintendo fans are given the finger from sega, 5.25.

Speed? The color blue? Mediocre games for the past 5 or so years? Despite major failures in the Sonic videogame series, i.e. Sonic '06, and Shadow the Hedgehog, Sega continued to release bad Sonic games. Sonic and the Secret Rings was quite good, but didn't recapture what Sonic is best known for. And now, Sega releases yet another Sonic game, and this time, its actually pretty good.

Sonic Unleashed breaks away from mediocre games and makes the blue hedgehog great again. While not being completely up to expectations, Sonic Unleashed is definitely the best Sonic console game to come out in a while. When I put in the disk, I was greeted by an amazing opening cut scene. It shows the evil Dr. Eggman trying to destroy a planet to unleash a dark spirit. Sonic shows up to stop him, but ultimately fails. He then gets captured by Eggman, and then gets turned into a "werehog" by Eggman's ray then plummets to the broken up planet. However, after that cut scene, I was then greeted by a less-than-impressive menu screen.

The most annoying part of this game is the point and click type mechanic. When you're in a village, point to the place you want to go, press A and a picture of a person will come up and talk to you through text. This will happen about three to four times until you get to where you want to be. This gets incredibly annoying, especially then when you click the right target and a cut scene comes up and then after that click three to four more times until you get a playable level. The day time levels are really fun to play with multiple routes and passages to take.

The controls are fun and simple. For example, when running up to a sharp turn, pressing the Z button and turning the control stick in the direction you're going will cause Sonic to perform a drift which really comes in handy and is fun and easy to use. Unleashed also uses an attack method that is used in Secret Rings. When near an enemy, a red target will appear over them. That indicates that its time to jump and flick the Wiimote forward so Sonic can perform a diving attack upon the enemy.

The werehog levels are okay. The first couple play throughs' are fun, but then gets repetitive as more levels are added. Enemies will appear out of no where and jazzy battle music that sounds like it would be on a late night talk show or morning game show will follow. Flicking the Wiimote and the nunchuk will make Sonic punch. Flicking both at the same time will cause Sonic to do a giant punch where he leaps in the air and slams his fists hard on the enemy. Now and again icons of the B and Z buttons will appear on screen to indicate to perform that specific action to get past a certain obstacle which at some points gets frustrating. The boss battles with Eggman go back to Sonic's old platforming roots. Every time I got hit by Eggman, he gave me his infamous laugh which would fuel me even further to try and beat him.

This game is a great game for the Sonic fan in the family. Casual gamers might find some things to enjoy about it as well. But unless you're a true Sonic fan, there's probably not much that'll come of it for you.

An OK game

Sonic Unleashed was pretty good at the beginning, but as you start to do the night boards it gets kind of annoying, especially when you go to a world and almost every room you go to,Chip(the little imp thing that likes chocolate)says"Looks like theres noone here Sonic!"Then WHY did u tell me to go there!?The day boards are fun though.Kind of annoying when you accidentaly run off an edge. But all in all,it was a good game.

IDK what everyone thinks is disappointing

I happen to like this game. The daytime levels are amazing even though the 2D parts are not like the originals ( there's not as much platforming). Also, the daytime levels have the best controls and the most fun out of a sonic game I had in a while. The nighttime levels are fun, too. Sure sonic moves slowwer, but the nighttime levels have more platforming than the daytime levels. Plus if he was fastter, the levels would almost be imposible to complete. The music is catchy as well. The main problem with the game is the amount of werehog levels. There's more werehog than hedgehog. The werehog is fun, but there could've been more daytime levels. Plus, the homing attack is not as useful. You'll still do homing attacks on enimies, but it's worthless when trying to get that extra amount of air. Overall, sonic unleashed is a fun game and should be picked up by sonic fans and people who likes beat-em ups.

I don't understand!!!!!!!

Game Informer!!!! I myself loved the game play for the daytime stages and I even thought the Night stages were alright. Not to mention the game looks absolutely fantastic visually (it's like playing a pixar movie). The daytime stages are fun and simple, their kinda hard to describe but basically it's just think the old 2-D sonic games but from the perspective of Sonic's back. The story is alright and filled with a lot of humor and leaves you with a good feeling, but if your playing Sonic games for story you have something wrong with you. The voice acting is alright and the characters are in place and everything checks out. Even though I really loved this game I won't lie...I did hate the stupid Sun and Moon medal collecting. I mean it wasn't hard, it was just annoying and was only put in to add in an extra hour or 2 in the game. Also lets not forget the beloved Werehog, even though I found most of his gameplay mechanics fun they also seemed very familiar *cough*God of War*cough*. None the less Sonic Unleashed was a fine game overall and was worth every penny I paid for it. The game left me with hope of the series returning to it's former glory and I would suggest it to any fan of the blue speedster.

Sonic Unleashed

Anyone who has played Super Smash Brother's Brawl, (aka, 80% of everyone who owns a Wii.) was probably motivated to buy Nintendo, Sonic, or Metal Gear games sometime afterwards. Sonic Unleashed is no exception. With all the hype, the game was bound to sell to casual and hardcore gamers alike. Well it did cause i'm here now reviewing it. Once you slide the disk in you get one of the most awesome opening sequences to anything in existence. you're not really going to be paying attention to the dialogue because you'll be watching sonic beating the bolts out of Eggman's hapless robots. Once all the action stops, Eggman fires you down to earth and, you know the rest. You meat up with Chip, a kind of pixie who has lost his memory. The story is uninteresting, and all you really want to do is run fast through the level. After the cut scene with chip, you do just that, slaughtering a few more robots along the way. The control is surprisingly good, and it feel really nice sliding and drifting. Then you get to the were-hog stages. Most people hate this because sonic moves to slow. I hate because the control is messed up. I can't get past the 2nd stage because of it. You're supoused to be able to grab edge's, but i can't because you're accuracy has to be perfect.
Gameplay: Well, the gameplay of the game is pretty cool, such as going around and talking to people, unlike the Wii, the levels remind me of the old games, the only gameplay issue is the Werehog, I don't see how Sega thought that it would be a good idea, but oh well, and the leveling system is awesome, and I hope that they include it in all of the games in the future.

Controls: The controls are what you would expect in a Sonic the Hedgehog game, fun, but can get hard to use, but on the other hand when you are in Werehog form the controls are like a mario game, and kind of easy, the first boss, the egg beatle, is really hard, well it was to me, because of the controls, they make it so that you are going like 100 MPH and they let you use the L1 and the R1 to dash but at the speed you are going, the bombs or missiles are already blown up in your face, so the controls are kind of weak, but oh well.

Story: The story of this game is great, I love the story, a natural Sonic vs Eggman rivalry, I am not all the way through the game yet, but I am still loving the story, probably the top thing about this game that gets it up to an 8 for me.

Graphics: The graphics of this game are nice, they are suprising for a Sonic the hedgehog game, shadows, fur detail, they are all great, I love them, which is why this game is getting a high rating from me.

Sound: The sound is kind of annoying, I mean its realistic, because you can hear the footsteps of Sonic when he is running and when you are fighting a boss, then it gets really annoying, not to mention the stupid flying guy that follows you, his stupid wings are annoying, along with what he says when you hit a ? light, which tells you how to do something, he is always saying things like "SOONIC" in a really gay voice, so thats another bad thing about it, but hey, thats what the option selection on the menu is for, right?

What Happened, Sega!?

I am very disapointed in you Sega. After Sonic Adventure, you have basically ruined the once proud Sonic The Hedgehog. I am a fan of the blue wonder and I, like alot of Sonic fans, have to shake our heads in shame as we watch him slowly fall apart. If I was able to, I would try to make a better Sonic game than this. My 3 basic rules to making a great Sonic game that you guys needs to improve on are:

1.If you are going to have voice acting, either get rid of it all together or hire people that can actually do it. For god sakes, the acting is just painful.

2. Come up with a much better supporting cast of supporting characters. Tails, got to go. Amy, bye-bye. Big, shouldn't have existed. Cream, WTF? Charmy, no comment. As for Shadow and Knuckles, change thier attitudes and voice work and we'll talk about it.

3. Take time to try to fix the technical problems you had with previous titles, Such as the camera and framerate. If you fix these problems, then I will be very happy and you will make a much better game.

As for this game:

PROS:

. Pretty to look at.

. Sonic daytime levels are fun to play.

CONS:

. Werehog levels are an absolute mess. It's God Of War on drugs.

. Seriously Sega..voice work. FIX IT!

.Short game

. Supprting characters need improvement. What were you thinking? Professor Pickle!!??

. Don't bother putting in dumb exploration crap. I want to continue bieng in the action, like in Sonic Heroes, not waste time looking for it.

Sonic, better than you thought

Hi-helloDo you love soinic?

No matter what everyone says this is a quality sonic game wtih fun, laughs, andgreat music. It may be too high of a price, but once you get it the fun can really begin. The Xbox 360 version is different from the PS3 just because of less camera motion and tighter contols, but they are exatly the same. Wii and PS2 set it apart, here there is no HUB wrold but they are replaced by menues but sonic game play is fun. For 360 there is a hub world and fun gameplay even for the wherehog. The music is upbeat, cheerful, and suits bolth day or night stages, but can be alittle repetitive. Overall sonic stages are the best and if you just give it a try youll have fun.

I recomend this game for Wii and xbox360 owners who need a break
