Update: RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Coming To PC Later This Year

Update: Fans of the series have made their displeasure about RollerCoaster Tycoon 4's mobile launch known. The developer has responded via Facebook, reassuring fans that RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 is coming to PC later this year.

The Facebook post says "RollerCoaster Tycoon is back and it's coming to mobile (first)! Rest assured, there is a PC experience in production now for release in Fall 2014. This is just the first step in bringing the series back to its fans this year! We are excited and hope you are too!"

Original Story: For the first time in almost a decade, RollerCoaster Tycoon is getting a new numbered entry in the franchise. But rather than being on PC like previous installments, RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile will be coming to iOS devices later this year, a first for the series.

The game's debut trailer is sparse on details, but it gives a glimpse of the game's visuals and promises players will be able to share their parks. Players will also be able to visit the parks of their friends as they climb the online leaderboards. RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is being created by mobile-focused On5 Games.

  • Just what people wanted, a sh*t mobile game. No doubt it's gonna be filled with micro-transactions. Thank you Atari
  • I used to play Roller-coaster tycoon all the time.
  • What a load. Guess I'll be sticking with RCT 3. Meanwhile, a TRUE sequel is coming on Steam early access in the form of a game called Theme Park Studio. It's RCT on steroids.
  • I want to be excited, I loved the original... but I am left VERY skeptical, sadly.

  • This is depressing. It looks more like that God-awful Thrillville game on the Wii than the classic RCT's...

  • I loved the original, but I am worried that they will mess up the game during the port to iOS. Hopefully it is enough like the original that it will be a good game.

  • I loved roller coaster tycoon and actually looked to see if it was in the app store.

  • This is why sooooooooo many people get fired in the gaming industry. Good.
  • Just like the Tony Hawk sequel, huge disappointment that this is a mobile game. I'm not quite sure how they can justify making it a numbered sequel.

  • This is some major BS, as much as I love the series a mobile game is a terrible idea

  • I hope a PC version is coming later because this so stupid. Why do they think PC players have moved on to mobile these days...

  • If this were to have a PC edition come out later I would be very excited to play that but I'm not that big on mobile gaming. If I'm already on the move, I don't really have time to play a game. Very excited to hear what will come in the future if RollerCoaster Tycoon is here to stay once again.

  • i was really hoping this would have been a xbla game or something but at least the franchise isn't dead
  • You know, I'd really love a RollerCoaster Tycoon game with Oculus Rift support.

  • Thanks for getting my hopes up GI, I saw the title, jumped for joy and then sank glumly back into my chair when I realized it was for mobile.

  • why? Why make this a mobile exclusive? It might be good but I feel its full potential could be better spent on PC. The first 2 Rollercoaster Tycoon games were amazing and they were one of the few PC games I enjoy playing. So hopefully, we get a PC announcement soon.
  • i saw the title and was instantly filled with joy. Continued reading the article and i am severely disappointed.

  • Now that the update has finally been posted by Atari, it thankfully will be put into place on PC as hopefully a full game rather than a Facebook game or something as small as such.

This makes my day a little bit better hearing this news.

  • Ah, time to join the ranks of other esteemed mobile entries in legendary PC franchises. Like Dungeon Keeper 2014, the Sims mobile, and other quality titles!

  • Why wouldn't they lead with the PC game? It would've gained much more positive intrest than the shellacking it got for the mobile announcement
