NIS America has revealed new information surrounding Rodea the Sky Soldier, the upcoming title from Yuji Naka, the man behind the original Sonic games, and Zin Hasegawa, who is best known for his work on the Fatal Frame series. In the newest batch of information, players can learn a little more about the story and characters in this speedy adventure.

The story takes place 1,000 years following an attempted invasion of Garuda, a floating kingdom, by Naga, a technologically advanced earthbound empire. Princess Cecilia, the daughter of the ruler of Naga, attempted to escape Garuda during the invasion, but she was trapped. In response, she entrusted Rodea, her robotic bodyguard, with half of the Key of Time, an item that is important to the success of Naga's invasion of Garuda. Princess Cecilia uses the power of her remaining half of the Key to teleport away, making Naga's invasion unsuccessful.

As the years passed, the historical significance of the invasion by Naga was written off, but when a girl named Ion in a small village in Garuda discovers a deactivated Rodea, the adventure begins. Rodea is reactivated by Ion, only to remember nothing outside of his last mission to save Garuda and the face of Princess Cecilia, who Ion happens to look like.

Now, the Naga empire is threatening Garuda once again, and it's up to Rodea to defend the invasion once more. Using his gravity manipulation device, Rodea can fly through the air. The Gravitron energy that powers this device replenishes when he touches down on the ground, collects Gravitron crystals, or destroys select objects. Gravitrons can also give direction to Rodea as to how to reach the goal of the mission in the shortest amount of time as well as grant chain bonuses when he collects enough without landing.

Rodea the Sky Soldier is set to hit Wii U and 3DS on September 22.
