Rise of the Tomb Raider
One of the major criticism levied against the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot was that it was missing something important to the franchise. Sure, there were tiny rooms called “tombs,” but they weren’t quite what fans were hoping for.
Rise of the Tomb Raider restores the franchise’s legacy of exploration and mystery. As I discussed in my hands-on preview, the translation system is a clever and thematic McGuffin that helps sell the atmosphere. Lara will learn new languages by finding different pieces of text around the environment.
The video also covers the more complex puzzles that Lara will find in challenge tombs. Finding these will be worth your time, as solving them unlocks ancient knowledge manifesting as new skills.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be out on November 10 for Xbox One and Xbox 360. A PC version is scheduled for early 2016. A PlayStation 4 iteration will be out during holiday 2016.
