REmake Is Getting Its Own Remake

Capcom might not have a new Resident Evil game to announce, but the company is doing the next best thing. The Gamecube-exclusive Resident Evil REmake released in 2002 is getting an HD update with release on four new consoles.

The new version of the game affectionally called REmake by fans will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC in 2015. The title will support 1080p on both new-generation consoles, along with remastered 5.1 sound across all platforms.

Both classic 4:3 ratio and 16:9 widescreen modes are available. Additionally, Capcom is including traditional series “tank” controls and an updated scheme that allows players to move in the direction of the thumbstick. Interested in the source material? We’re currently replaying the original PlayStation 1 Resident Evil and the Gamecube REmake on Super Replay.

  • Guess this is better than having a sequel that doesn't live up to the RE title, hopefully there's plenty of extra content that comes with this port of a port
  • Soo now we're getting a remake of a remake. Weve run out of ideas. Just admit it
  • I'll get it. REmake is probably my second favorite RE game, after 4.
  • I played and finished the original PS1 version like a year or two ago, but after watching the GI Super Replay I'm kind of interested in checking out this edition. It will be super weird to play this game without tank controls.
  • Umm, this is pretty awesome guys :)

  • It'll be nice to play this again without having to dig out my wii

  • Sigh, another HD remake, but given the GC's lifetime install base, it's probably smart from a business perspective. But when will we finally get the Resident Evil 2 remake?
  • Nice, this is a great game, probably the best on the series. I hope the they are going to do the same for Resident Evil Zero.
  • Hopefully this is a lead-up to a series reboot. I don't want to see RE2,3,4 again but new stories in the classic formula would be nice.
  • I've never played a Resident Evil game. I can't think of a better place to start than the first one, and for next-gen to boot.
  • This is fantastic! Now if they could remake the second one, I can die happy.
  • I never played the original, so this interests me. :)

  • well, it's a step in the right direction. i see zero being next. then who knows? maybe a resident evil title that is exclusive to ps4/xboxone that uses uses prerendered environments, and pushes the hardware pretty hard. i've had dreams like this.
  • So many real-time particles!

  • Oh joy another remake. Only this time it's better, it's a remake of a remake! This game works just fine on my GCN. It's also odd that this is going on everything but the WiiU. This shouldn't sell well but the way people are clamoring for these remakes....
  • I wish they would add an optional over-the-shoulder camera viewpoint to go along with the upgraded controls.
  • I can't wait to play this game for the first time, as an HD REmake.
  • Yea, this is awesome news!

  • Woah, that was out of the blue. It'll be nice to play this again, but they need a "REboot" instead of just a port of REmake. It'll be pretty hard to recover after the travesty that was RE6, and I think starting completely over is the best way to go for Capcom at this point.
  • irony! i'm sure tim is pleased about this.
