The lights are on
Anybody who owns a Playstation 3 (or even PS2) will have at least heard of the Ratchet and Clank series, or have gotten their hands on one of the many titles in the series. Ratchet and Clank has always set the bar for platforming action, and now with the addition of having three other friends to add to the chaos, R&C All 4 One makes a great addition to anyone's Playstation 3 collection. Even if you're playing on your own, you get an AI partner that helps keep the feel of co-op action, the new focus of the last Ratchet and Clank title.
The controls are just as good as the previous R&C titles, with a few minor tweaks here and there. Moving the right analog stick in any direction brings up a wheel with your current arsenal. The wheel helps for quick switching rather than having to pause the game and scroll through menus, and it keeps the action almost constant. One thing they did remove though is the ability to crouch with R2. R2 instead preps the player to throw their melee weapon like a boomerang. Anyone who has played past games will be familiar with Ratchet's wrench throw. In previous titles, while crouching with R2, you could perform a high jump with Clank strapped to Ratchet's back. But since Ratchet and Clank are now both playable characters simultaneously, that feature is now gone. It made me feel a bit worrisome at first, but the high jump is not really necessary with other partners to launch you to high platforms and at hordes of foes with the VacU, a giant Luigi's Mansion-esque vacuum.
For anybody that's into platforming, non-stop action, over-the-top weaponry and being able to do all that with three other buddies, Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One is a must-have
Great review! I'm glad you enjoyed the game too.
