Original Starters Get Mega Evolutions In X & Y Trailer

In this morning's Nintendo Direct, Game Freak and the Pokémon Company revealed something special for long-time fans of the series. In addition to the starters for X and Y (Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie), Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur will be on hand.

More importantly, they'll be getting mega evolutions. We've got more on mega evolutions, our PAX 2013 experiences, and the upcoming Pokémon Bank online service. You can see more on the mega evolutions of the three original starters in the Nintendo Direct.

  • the charzard didn't even look that hurt from the hydro pump...^_^
  • I dig mega Charizard but Venusaur looks more like a flower child now and Blastoise looks like he belongs in Far Cry III: Blood Dragon. Also am I the only one that feels like the whole "watch move" of the characters is like Power Rangers? xD
  • Pigimon

  • Yessss....YESSSSSSS!!!

  • SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!
  • Lol...Blastoise looks weird.

But the others actually look badass. Especially Charizard

  • So venusaur gets a.....flower.. well I'm keeping mine a bulba bulbasaur!  Plus my kids just love bulbasaur. Man my Ampharous is going to rip apart all these charizards ;)

  • This is a day one buy for me! I'm gonna have to pre order now!
  • Charizard looks f*cking beast.
  • Although I like the regular Charizard more, but the mega evolution looks really cool too.

  • Charizard looks ok until you look at his arms... What exactly is the point of those things on his arms. Are they little wings? Hard skin things? Whatever they are, they look completely unnecessary and it looks like they were just looking for something to tack on.

  • They look like s**t -.-

  • So they're just called "Mega" instead of having a entirely different name?

Seems like they're nicking the Digimon naming system :P

  • Mega Charizard > Mega Blaziken? anyone?

  • Dang it Nintendo! Quit messing with my childhood...is nothing sacred anymore?!?!?!

  • *Laughs* This is so epic and awesome to have the original three back in another adventure; this time able to transform to a new level of prowess. ^_^

  • So now the original starters can digivolve? Also, Mega Charizard reminds me of the one dragon breed from the Monster Rancher game where you could scan the different CDs and DVDs to unlock different monsters, especially with the new horns on his head.

  • Mega Charizard is freaking epic. Makes me want to play pokemon again.

  • *cries tears of joy* I can raise a Charmander again? My only regret is that I can't keep it a Charmeleon (my favorite Pokemon) forever if I want to use the Mega form...
