More Details From The Latest Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Trailer

A new trailer and a handful of screens were posted for Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire this morning, but there weer a few quick details you might have missed, as well as a few details worth expanding upon.

A few Pokémon were quickly confirmed to be appearing in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, as they were quickly shown in the middle of combat. We saw Grovyle and Swampert in the midst of battle, but they are evolved forms of the starters from the original Ruby and Sapphire, so they're appearances are far from being a surprise.

More interesting were the appearances of Shiftry...

... and Geodude and Makuhita. It's also worth noting that horde battles are no longer limited to the wild. Now, up to five trainers can attack you at once.

All of these Pokémon appeared in Pokémon X & Y, so this is not the first time we've seen them in 3D, but it's nice to be able to add them to the list of definitely appearing Pokémon.

Some of the more interesting details from the trailer were small things that flew by. In the contest, Pikachu – dressed a luchador – is wrestling a giant stuffed animal. It's a little weird.

There's also this symbol shown briefly in the background. I's probably just the icon for the new Pokémon Contest Spectacular.

In the press release announcing the Pokémon Contest Spectacular delivering the trailer, it says Pokémon will be rated in one of five categories: Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness. Because of this, showing off a powerful attack won't always be the automatic choice.

The Cosplay Pikachu – who has been shown before – is awarded to players after participating in the Pokémon Contest Spectacular for the first time. He's different than the standard Pikachu you catch in the wild. Its assorted costumes offer more than just aesthetic changes. It also changes what types of attacks Pikcachu can perform.

Pikachu Rock Star can perform Meteor Mash; Pikachu Pop Star can perform Draining Kiss; Pikachu, Ph.D., can learn Electric Terrain; Pikachu Belle can use Icicle Crash; And finally Pikachu Libre can use Flying Press.

  • Mega Salamence looks ridiculous.
  • There is a luchador Pikachu? Game of the year 10/10 "Like Skyrim but with Pikachus"--IGN
  • A buddy of mine is still waiting for them to announce Mega Dragonite. So am I but not quite as much.

  • They're quickly running out of games to remake/re-hash to death, that *gasp* they'll have to start making something new and original.
  • My internet is horrible right now. The trailer and the pictures won't load up at all. Can any Pikachu wear costumes, or is there only one that can? Will all the other pokemon be able to have the same trait? It's kind of confusing, but interesting. Pokémon Platinum had contests, so I feel as though that Nintendo is copying and pasting, but I hope that's not the case.
  • I'm pretty hyped. They still have hordes to find hidden ability pokemon and they have pikachu libre. I mean, what else do we need other than a pikachu in a wrestling costume? Oh yeah, a plushie of pikachu libre of course!

  • Pika Libre!

  • That tortoise is blastin' out a stink poof

  • I am Groot.

  • Mmm, I'm sorry, but I don't think there was ANYTHING that confirmed trainers being able to gang up on you. Those horde battles are definitely in the wild there....

  • So I'm to understand that my favorite Pokemon game in the whole series is getting an X/Y upgrade!? Alright, lets do this.

  • Pikachu is still the star of the series huh? Just started HeartGold, after not playing the series for about 15 year, the original Gold was actually the last game I played, what was that, 1998?
  • Trainers can gang up on you now? Awesome.

  • The only thing more ridiculous than some of the things shown coming to Pokemon is the fact that this was posted as an article... This expands on nothing. :/
  • The 5-on-1 trainer idea is ridiculous. I wish enough people would complain so that it would be removed because it was hard enough taking on the wild Pokemon being outnumbered like that.
  • That giant stuffed animal is a substitute, just saying. It's like nobody in GI knows anything about Pokemon...
  • Seeing the Torkoal really brings back memories from when I watched the show.
