Pokémon Sun and Moon are headed to the 3DS later this year, and bringing a vast array of new monsters to collect and battle with them. Today, Salandit has been revealed, along with a brand new ability.

This lizard is designed to look like a bandit, with some kind of mask covering its face. Salandit is the first fire and poison type Pokémon, but its ability is even more fascinating. Corrosion lets Salandit afflict any enemy Pokémon with poison, even steel and poison types who were previously invulnerable to the condition. Check out this new critter in action below.

Corrosion is an interesting new mechanic that has the potential to change up some competitive aspects of Pokémon, seeing as steel and poison types are frequently used due to their previous strength against status conditions. If Salandit is the first part of an evolution chain, it may become one of the most heavily used Pokémon among serious players.

Sun and Moon hits the 3DS on November 18. Check out our previous coverage to get to know even more of the new Pokémon.
