Its sad, because the guns looked cool as well the graphics.

BUT THE GAMEPLAY!

I played and got through the first few missions. But it started to get rediculously hard due to super human AI, and my squads flat out stupid AI.

Your squad is important to the game, which is unfortunate. They will not listen to a thing you say. And often try to, and do something much worse! For example, to accomplish a mission, you needed to get to a helicopter.

So I used a jeep to get there, upon seeing the chopper, I commanded the driver in my squad to get into the helecopter.....so he tried to, but he also wanted to bring the jeep with him. So basically, the AI rammed into it over and over again with the jeep instead of getting out and boarding the helecopter.

As for the enemy AI, it is as I said, super human. It knows where you are, where to shoot, etc.

But when you get close enough to them, their AI is just as bad as your squad's! They will stand still as you stand in front of them about to knife them!

The character animations in this game are pathetic at best. Some times they will just slide around motionless! Just sliding at huge speeds!

Just please, don't buy this game. Do your self a favor!

all around good game

better than 90% of the shooters out there yea a lot of bugs. the game play is more realistic than cod because u can die on one shot not 100 and every def level is the same just some thing's are taken out of gameplay to make it more realistic

OFPDR good game considering

i was upset shortly after playing the game when i realised it was just another title that Codemasters hyped up and didn't follow through with. usually i won't pre order games but this one i did only to find that it was rushed and possibly not even tested thouroughly, i mean how could they have really tested the game and still have simple bugs like when you start with everyone in the deuce and a half transport truck (on multiplayer) and take off with everyones rifles being left floating in the air? then your rifle disappears and your left with your hand kinda like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. i gave the game a flat 7.0 simply because it COULD be a great game if they employ this patch their talking about and it actually works, but considering the way the game is now i am not sure they even have the ability or know how to fix it with a patch. i will not be purchasing another title from Codemasters on the day it releases because the last 2 i have pre ordered (this one and FUEL) have not been worth the price paid and have had too many problems. i will wait until the price drops and maybe by then they will have them functional. i love the overall design of the game and especially the ballistic system, don't remember the mission name but it was the one where you had to take out the officer in the radio station with an airstrike while he was inside. i sat on the mountain behind a rock with the rangefinder and .50 cal sniper rifle and got several kills from 800+ meters although it was hard to judge where to line the crosshair because it didn't go that high, within 600 meters its one shot one kill, the night ops scopes could use the option to turn on fully illuminated crosshairs so you could see the distance threads better but thats mainly on the above mission.

sure hope the patch comes soon and is effective on the major issues but i think its gonna take a few patches and community feedback to get it fully worked out.

Operation Flashpoint

If you want a gritty realistic warfare game, look no further. Operation Flashpoint delivers a extreme realistic take on modern combat and sets you in the middle of it all.

Command your 4 man Squad through diverse missions that will challenge your wits as much as your aim. From close quarters combat to long range stealth tactics you will be put on the spot. Your abilities to react to a combat situation and act quickly and effectively will be tested. You can give diverse orders to your squad that can make or break the battle. They will do exactly what you tell them to do And they will do it in a orderly manner. With extremely intelligent and sensitive A.I. reactions you must give them logical commands. They will not walk off a cliff just because you said Move Fast. They will find the most direct logical route to where you order them to move. If you tell your medic to heal a teammate, they will move to a safe place to do so.

You will have to complete a wide array of mission objectives to complete the game. Such as, Recon locations, Assault enemy bases, Rescue POW's, Extract from combat zones, Destroy Anti-Aircraft emplacements, And much, much more. With mission specific weapon sets that vary depending on the mission at hand. You will find yourself with some of the most advanced weapons and technology in this day and age. Drive APC's, Trucks, Hummers, Tanks, And even fly attack helicopters.

You can incorporate your own battle tactics to create unique combat conditions. And are limited only by your imagination.

The online Co-op and multi-player are great too. It's the most addictive online shooter I've ever played. It has little problems that I think are related more to the players connection rather than the game it's self. But overall it's a very fun online experience. The online game modes to choose from are Annihilation and Infiltration. Annihilation is your general team death-match game but with four, four man squads per team, so each player has the ability to command a squad of A.I. players. This creates rough, realistic battle conditions that will put your skills to the test. Infiltration is a objective match where one team has to destroy an objective while the other team has to defend it. And with extremely large natural levels both game modes are tons of fun.

As the USMC Say "Adapt Improvise Overcome" And that describes this game

Poor excuse for a real time sim shooter

This game looked like it would be an awesome shooter but it is far from realistic. After playing Call of Duty for years I was looking for something a little different so I chose Operation Fashpoint Dragon Rising. This was a huge mistake. Whoever thinks this game is anywhere close to realistic needs to go join the military and get involved in an actual fire fight. This game is loaded with bugs and the order system is garbage. Rarely do the team mates do what they're told. There is nothing like being at the very end of a mission, getting shot, bleeding out and the medic is no where to be found. He must have been checking out the crap graphics, faulty guns, and sprawling wilderness with invisible snipers. Co-op makes this game much more fun but with all of the lag and glitches it's still a pain in the rear end. As for multiplayer, I never got to experience it because everytime I tried to connect it was not available. Whatever happened to developers testing games before they release them ? In my opinion this is a last gen game that should have been shelved long ago. We have all been spoiled with games such as Call of Duty and Ghost Recon. I am shocked that Codemasters wouldnt have taken elements from games that were global hits. Perhaps they should stick to the easier genres.

this looks good

this is the first time i have heard of this game and it looks sweet but im sure its not ganna be as good as halo 3, halo 3 odst or CoD 4 and soon to come codMWF2

I am an 8 year army veteran, combat medic. I have 2 long combat tours in Iraq. I have been wounded, been blown up with an IED, been shot at, shot at and killed the enemy, seen all types of wounds from all types of caliburs of ammunition, and all types of explosions, seen rockets fired, missiles fired, c4, and c6 detonated, triple strand det cord door breaches, shotgun door breaches. You name it I have shot it or seen it. I am a qualified advanced small arms weapons instructor, and a MOUT (movement on urban terrain...aka...room clearing) instructor. I currently work as an instructor at a Medical Simulation Training Simulator, where I teach soldiers how to provide medical care on a battlefield, and run them though a full combat simulator. I am extremely experienced and know what combat looks, feels, sound, and sadly smells like. Thats enough about me though, lets get to the game.
Presentation wise, OFP does a decent job. The in game menus are nicely polished, and have a gritty war time feel to them. When navigating through the menus you will find that they keep the standard statistics, kills, accuracy, shots fired, etc. During the loading screens tips are displayed as well as stats, for anyone that has played Grid or Dirt, you know what I am talking about. The missions are briefed, in text, providing purpose. You can pull up more intel about your mission, or METT-TC (Mission, Enemy, Terrain and weather, Troops and Support, Time available, and civil considerations) for any military folks. The mission brief is basically layed out like an operation order, as it is in the real world. However, the game does have many bugs that still need to be worked out, leaving me to believe that Codemasters should have spent a few more months developing this title. When you pay full price for a next-gen game, a general lack of polish is unacceptable, thankfully, none of these bugs are game breaking.
Graphically, OFP meets the par. The textures are standard fare, the character models move nicely and have a high polygon count. I like the way the marines move around like a marine carrying 70 plus pounds of equipment. The draw distance in this game is what really shines, as well as the lighting (no pun intended). You can see for a long distance depending on the environmental factors. The explosions also look incredibly realistic, however the smoke isn't as textured and pluming as a Call of Duty game, but this isnt a bad thing. I have never seen a "Call of Duty" explosion in the real world, only in the movies. OFP explosions look very realistic, and very intense when the mortars are falling around you. The weapons look very nice and realistic. The only thing I noticed that wasn't true to life was that a marine would charge the bolt back and forward by pulling the charging handle when performing a tactical magazine reload. In reality you would only need to hit the bolt release to movie the bolt forward, or tap the forward assist, oh well.
The sound is incredibly well done. The weapons sound like their real world counterparts. The explosions sound extremely realistic also. The voice acting is monotone and lacks intensity, but in context works well. Special Operations soldiers know to remain calm under fire, and radio communication protocol is to talk in a monotone and concise way in the real world. The military is not the police or fire, we don't say, "10-4, good buddy." The only gripe I have with the dialogue is that they do not use a standard 8-digit military grid coordinate when calling for fire, or giving movement orders.
The gameplay is awesome. It is easily the shining star of this game. If you take the time to read into it and strategize, you will be rewarded dearly. If you think you are an invincible Rambo, you will die. The command system is extremely deep. You have command over rules of engagement, movement speeds, fire team formations, react to contacts, formation intervals. If you ever read the Army's field manual, FM 7-8, Small infantry squad tactics, you would find directions of how to use all of these commands to your advantage. This is a game for smart gamers who want a real challenge. For example, I was tasked with holding a village against a counter attack after a beachhead. I was in charge of holding the southern sector. However the othe fire teams in charge of the other sectors kept failing to hold their line. After dying 20 or so times, I decided I needed a change in strategy. One that would allow me to provide support to the other fire teams. I did a hasty recon and discovered 3 M2 .50cal machine gun positions around the village's perimiter. I ordered my men into those positions to maintain seperior firepower. I also knew from my MOUT training, that in order to dominate the village I needed to occupy the tallest buliding and hold it. I found a tall two story building and surrounded it with claymore mines. I then went to the roof of the bulding in order to provide sniper support and monitor the battlefield. This allowed me to effectively shift my fire team and provide support to different sectors of fire on the fly. I also knew that if things got out of hand I could collapse my perimeter into the confines of the bulding and let the claymores do their job. However, I did not need to collapse in and was able to succesfully hold off the counter attack. I also found that pulling up my map was instrumental in directing my team, kind of like playing a real time strategy game. These are the kind of moments I have had playing this game. It is slow and delibirate, however, when the bullets start flying, everything gets crazy, and if you do not have a well thought out plan, you will die, just as in the real world. There are many vehicles to be piloted, boats, jeeps, tanks, APCs, Humvees, and helicoptors. All control well, but are hard to master, especially the chopper. One thing I really enjoyed was the ability to call up different types of indirect fire support and air strikes. Each has its own options, from harrassing fire, to a full out barrage...Sweet!
Online multiplayer is your standard fare. There are two competitive modes, infiltration and annhilation. The former is based on a game of hunter/hunted. In which a small team of players tries to infiltate and destroy an objective. The second larger team has to defend against the smaller force. The attacking team is a special ops unit, equipped with thermal scopes and other goodies. The defending team has standard infantry weapons. This ensures that the balance is maintained. The latter game type is a straight forward war. Two balanced teams engage eachother in a tactical location. Both game types have AI soldier support and a wide variety of vehicles and fire support. I did notice some small amouts of lag and a bug that has your weapon take a few seconds to pop up after a spawn. They were nothing game breaking, and resolved themselves within moments. The co-op modes are extremely fun. Four friends can work as a fire team though the campaign, or single missions. There are also Fire Team Engagement missions, which are small single objective, eliminate the opposition missions. I have really enjoyed the multiplayer, even though die to inferior servers finding a match sometimes takes a little while.
In closing, OFP is not for everyone, it is a unique realistic game that is not usually aimed toward the console crowd. It is not Call of Duty, nor is it trying to be. It is its own genre, that cannot be found in any other console game. If you are up for the challenge, and enjoy well coordinated strategy, then you will find much to love about this game. If you are looking for a Call of Duty clone, then go out and get one of the other cookie cutter FPS games out there, this is not it. This is not a FPS it is a military simulation, and a darn good and extremely realistic one at that. No other game has come off as this realistic too me, and I know what real combat is. So if you want a game that will challenge you and leave you with a real sense of accomplishment, then OFP is for you.

a great game with some very little glitches

i agree with the gameinformer review in some points and others not this game does play great when it is working, (which is most of the time) i will admit that laying on the ground bleeding out ( very realstic) waiting for the medic to come when he is stuck on a rock sucks big time but it is nothing compared to the awsome miltaryness that this game has the falnking, guns, tatics etc, this game is a great game for anyone looking for a realtsic shooter that offers a channlege. while i will admit it sucks haveing to try 15 times to beat a misson but that keeps the exprince real and exticing ( NOTE: only on some hard missons 3 at the most). this game is awsome realtsic milltary shooter.

p.s: to gameinformer the reason the a.i is standing there taking bullets is where else is there to go you are under fire and trying to take cover ( it is calles suppersion)
