---SPOILERS---

I have
had Mortal Kombat every since it first came out and I'm still playing it
to this very day. The Story was rich, dramatic and cool
although there was some spots that were a cheesey and some spots that
didn't make much since. But you can't judge a game only by it's story.
The gameplay was also rich, there's over 20 characters to play as each
with there own moveset. It's also really easy to make combos in this
game, but some characters it's a little hard. Mortal Kombat also has
plenty of modes such as: Arcade, Multiplayer (Both online and offline),
Tag Team and Challenge Tower. Challenge Tower has 300 challenges
going from Easy and Hard. On the 300th challenge you'll find your self
at the hardest challenge, You must beat Goro, Kintaro, Milena and Shao
Kahn with one Health Bar when you beat it you will earn a special
costume for a character. For online modes you have: 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2 and
King of the Hill. All of these are fun but it seems King of the Hill is
the most popular. There also the Krypt were you can unlock things. it
took me like a week to unlock everything in it. There's more things in
Mortal Kombat but I guess that's all I'm going to talk about. Over all
this game was Amazing!

Bloody Good Fun

Mortal Kombat is back! After a decade of increasingly less fun games, Mortal Kombat returned to its 2D roots under control of NetherRealm Studios. Better yet, this game did away with a majority of the characters: all playable characters, and all stages, are from the first three Mortal Kombat games, except for one new exception character.

The gameplay is similar to that of most fighter games. Players choose a character and can fight their friends in versus mode or a series of increasingly difficult and randomly selected A.I.-controlled enemies in Ladder mode. The A.I. is much less cheap than it was in previous games, though they will still react a little too quickly to moves you're still entering. Online play is also available, though don't expect to fight many people on your level.

New modes include a tag-team mode where players fight 2 on 2, switching out at will, and the Challenge Tower, which features 300 missions using various match-ups and special rules (no arms, defeat a number of enemies).

Fighting itself isn't too complicated. The game offers a combo list for each character and included is how to perform those combos, special moves, and fatalities. The list can be opened at any time, but a lack of fast scrolling gives more motivation to actually learning the attacks than just pausing the game every few seconds. As you give and take damage a meter will fill up for both your and your opponent. You can use the segments of this Super Meter to augment your special attacks, break a combo that could end the match, or perform a devastating X-Ray attack that really shouldn't leave your opponent standing (Dual blades through eyes and skull...twice? Get up and fight you wimp!).

The biggest addition is the new story mode, which resets the Mortal Kombat story with a message sent back in time, a warning. Earthrealm's thunder god Raiden takes this warning and runs with it, causing at first minor ripples in the original story, but then escalates into great changes over the course of the first three games. Several characters are left dead where once they lived, others have changed loyalty, and still others have changed in different ways. In the end, there's a clear break from the original storyline, as befitting of the series' new developers.

The story gives more depth than ever to the series and characters. Unfortunately, the pacing is off when players will be thrown in 1 on 2 battles early on, one of which can turn players off for a while. The fight in particular pits players against two characters who spam teleporting and stunning attacks, and many have to resort to cheap, repetitive tactics to pull out the two victories needed to continue.

Mortal Kombat's story mode and challenge tower, as well as the return to classic 2D fights, adds new light to the fading franchise and gives it a promising future, a sequel that's all but promised at the end. As a final note, players may want to abandon their analog sticks for the control pad, to input commands with less mistakes. Or, better yet, find a compatible fight stick controller.

Future Classic is born

This mortal combat is like nothing like the others. i atcually feel like im playing the old school version and it feels great.
The campaign is not the only feature that Mortal Kombat is offering to players. The new tournament based multiplayer game is something that every player, novice or expert, can thouroughly enjoy. You work your way up the ladder by defeating all enemies that come in your way until you hit the top for your final battle.

All in all, Mortal Kombat is an exceptional game that should be played by anyone that can get their hands on it. It is definitely a new milestone in the 2D fighting genre!

Great game but terrible graphics

Everything is great about this game. The game is smooth, action is fast, and you get all the characters and costumes. The only bad thing are the graphics which are terrible. Background graphics look pretty decent but most of the character models look terrible. The only model that looks quite good is Kratos. Johnny Cage is maybe the worst looking model in the whole game. His face looks like someone dumped hot grease all over it. This is pretty disappointing because I played the one for PS3 and even though I know that the graphics will not be as good I didn't think that it would be this bad. The character models looks BETTER that MK4 but WORST than DEADLY ALLIANCE. In simple terms, it looks like a VERY VERY early PS2 title or a VERY VERY late PS1 title.e

Mortal Kombat is the definition of amazing

This game is everything that a fighting game is supposed to be and it stays true to the Mortal Kombat series. It is able to provide enough content at the same time as it is able to keep this content original and fresh. The combat or should I say "kombat" is amazingly smooth and allows players to create devastating combos in a smooth manner. Expert players get their share of fun by being rewarded for their talents and newcomers also get to be able to get into the game quickly as well, a balance that is difficult to achieve by any game. The one and the only thing that the game lacks is an original storyline, but this is easily neglectable because it simply is not the main purpose of the game. This game is made so people can fight opponents and in this sense, Mortal Kombat achieves that perfectly and makes it bloody fun! (I'm not British btw...)

Mortal Kombat (2011) Review

Anyone who has ever played video games in the past ten years
has heard the Mortal Kombat name, and most gamers know that this series hasn't
been living up to its past legacy with its last few titles. When NetherRealm
Studios announced a new Mortal Kombat
was on the horizon many fans were skeptical (have you played MK vs. DCU?), but the decision to throw
the series back to its classic 2D roots helped soothe the difficult waiting
period. Well the wait is over and I must say that this title does more than
just give gamers a nostalgic feeling. The new Mortal Kombat succeeds with its impressive 2.5D visuals and
backgrounds, tight controls and distinctive move set for each character, a set
of unique and bloody fatalities for every combatant, a roster full of old and
new favorites free of filler and palette swaps, and some new features that are
guaranteed to keep you playing long after you complete story mode.

The new entry in the series takes place directly after the
events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
Shao Khan has annihilated almost everyone, and now Raiden is the only one left
standing. On the brink of death, the thunder god sends a message to his past
self in order to change the events and save Earthrealm. The story takes place
across the first three Mortal Kombat games, but the story has changed slightly
due to Raiden's interference (because we all play Mortal Kombat for its tightly
woven story). Story Mode is laid out in chapters where each one lets you
control a different character. It's a perfect tutorial for learning the
controls of several characters and will be beneficial whether you are new to
the series or just haven't played a Mortal Kombat game in awhile.

The controls work out nicely and the different stances have
been done away with to insure minimal confusion when working with a specific
character. Each character has their own particular move set with unique combos
and special attacks. The combos flow together nicely and the special attacks
can complement your individual play style and offer an abundance of choices for
special combos. You are guaranteed a
different experience with each character you tackle. Keeping the fighting on a
2D plane is also a nice touch. It keeps the controls from becoming too
convoluted and adds a nice nostalgic, yet rewarding, effect.

However, this is not the extent of the move set for each
character. NetherRealm Studios implemented a very intriguing new addition to
the fighting formula with X-Ray attacks. After filling a special bar up a
certain amount from blocking and attacking, you are able to unleash a deadly,
bone shattering (literally) combo with the push of both shoulder buttons. This
results in a grisly combo that shows the bones of your opponent breaking and
their insides rupturing before your very eyes. This attack does quite the large
amount of damage and can turn the tide in a losing battle. These new moves
combined with the redesigned and exclusive fatalities makes for a good display
of brutality and remind us what Mortal Kombat is all about: the over the top
gore and the utter destruction you can wreak on an opponent.

The good time doesn't end when you complete Story or Arcade
Mode. Mortal Kombat has added a solid
amount of extra content; some familiar like the Test Your Might mini-game and
the Krypt, an area of unlockable content; some new like the Test Your Strike
mini-game, a fresh take on an old idea, and the special Tower Mode. In this
mode you fight in several unique matches with a specific character. Each match
has its own special stipulations. This stipulations range from simple single
and tag matches to a shooting gallery with Jax shooting energy blasts at
Tarkatans, Johnny Cage fighting his director, or Stryker fighting three Shao
Khans in a row while only having a single health bar. With up to 300 stages in
the tower, you are sure to be playing for hours.

The place where Mortal
Kombat falls short is where most fighting games stumble. At times, the
opponents seem far too smart to be fair and the bosses (especially Shao Khan)
are just cheap, being able to shake of most combos without even flinching and
doing insurmountable amounts of damage. I realize that bosses are meant to be
harder than other fights, but I think there is a line that should be drawn.
These complaints, however, are just nit-picking at a very solid presentation.

Mortal Kombat fans will rejoice at their series' return to
glory and newcomers will love the content included in this title. Though some
of the matches may become frustrating, the enjoyment of the game itself, as
well as the great roster and well rendered visuals, should be enough to push
you past the few rough patches and won't stop you from loving a solid title in

I would agree that the only knock are the character graphics, but it only shows up during close ups before and after each fight. Gameplay is super tight and touch fatalities are really satisfying, especially for someone with larger hands.

Mortal Kombat:Vita

This game and Marvel Vs Capcom 3 are both amazing, but im gonna have to go w/ MK vita.....

Mortal Kombat is the original because Mortal Kombat have a story mode about Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before delivers the last blow, Raiden sends a mental message to his earlier self, and the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat the original game. Mortal Kombat is the events of Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and also 3. The gameplay is unlike previous Mortal Kombat games. Mortal Kombat have a lots of unlockables. The problem is really hard to defeat the Bosses and the Challenge Towers too.

Best MK Game to date, Mileena's Lover Review here

Yeaaaaa you heard me right. Mileena and Baraka/Tarkatans have been my favorite since 2. Before 2 it was all about Raiden for me.

Here's my review on this awesome Rebirth/Reboot of MK series; FIRST, THE BAD:

Online is shoddy/connection issues all the time. I have 40k connection through cable. Which is faster then most T1's out there besides some of the business/Metro-E connections out there. (I work in telecomm just so you know).

Lacking of the Character creator. YOU CANNOT TEASE ME WITH ARMAGEDDON NETHEREALM! YOU CANNOT DO THAT TO ME. I had Fun making my own stories and unlocking outfits/goodies all across the board. They took a popular feature out That I was inlove with.

Difficulty on some parts of the Main Story. Kabal comes to mind when you have to face Mileena and Noob-Saibot, and you're not used to his controls at all. I played the Arcade Ladder with Baraka/Mileena first and foremost, but man...Playing through story with a bunch of people I'd rather chop into peices with Roy Brown playing in the background then have to stomach their controls/combos...(This did NOT affect my rating, its just a personal Tidbit). I have to say though, making you go through the story and learn people's combos helps you BEAT them online so you know what to look forward to. So the bad got counter attacked by something good/positive, still...I didn't want to use Kabal nor do I give a flying fug about Liu Kang.

Boss Fights....Shao Kahn's move set and not able to grab/can't just destroy him, really? REALLY? Pretty much he is done for after you learn his little tactics...which you find out how to beat him real quick. Making him Spam spears and Hammer Tosses, Making the bosses Taunt you constantly...-sigh- Come on...really? This was lame...

Lack of Roster. A lot of Favorites got turned out, and I know why due to being a reboot, but you can't go Armageddon's full roster etc to less roster with some DLC...that kind of sucked...

Guest Characters = a Joke. This aint Soul Calibur. Don't pander to one market of players then forget the others. Bad move on your part. Krueger, don't even think I want him in this game. Kratos...-sigh-

-NOW FOR THE GOOD- Why this got a 9 from me.

Solid Fighter. Balanced with little imbalances such as Noob and Smoke being top spammers. There is always ways around them (Me being a Raiden/Mileena User). Its more balanced this time around then others. Each MK has had an OP type character, this one has a few, but they can be countered easily.

Upgrade to the Story mode was completely necessary and awesome at the same time. From MK1 all the way to Ultimate MK-Outworld Invasion. You just took the bad taste of your *** MK movies out of my mouth with this reboot.

LACK OF ROSTER (SHUT UP I KNOW): I hated Bo Rai Cho, I hated The Boss in Armageddon, I hated Majority of MK4's craptacular Roster. You kept out alot of annoying people like Meat (Which was a joke character) Drohgin or what ever his demon face was with the club for a hand, Natara was goofy as hell.

The Many Modes of gameplay, you brought back some goodies, the Special Event Ladder is great with its own funny ordeals.

Mileena is still sexy. <------You got a 6 just for that Netherrealm. You kept true to my favorite character and put her in BANDAGES. THANK YOU. Her combos are solid, her moves are fluid. Baraka still a bad ass. I'm still owning my friends who think he was just a grunt footsoldier. Raiden is the Anti-Spam King, and I appreciate that. I like Rain this time around, his Fatality is my favorite next to Mileena's. Stryker finally gets some respect, His X-ray and his Fatality are great. Sheeva is lovely, thank you for remaking her and keeping her strong.

X-Ray Attacks are great follow up moves, AWESOME to look at/feel, and great to piss off some one who thinks they won the match immediately/spammers, usually you don't get the X-ray unless you've taken hits, so spammers are usually hitting me or atleast hitting my block which means more x-ray for me, less wins for them. :3

Fatalities are more brutal this time around...and thank you for putting the ACTUAL Joker/Shang Tsung Fatality in this. This game is definently a GREAT notch above MKvsDCU which from what my friends tell me was kind of meh.

Graphics are superb. The Damage modifier graphics are awesome. X-ray attacks graphics are...lets just say Jade makes me crinch every time. (Hint: If you want to get a quick few more shots in, just pick people who's X-ray hit the groin...)

So thats it for my review. I hope I was decent and not just fanboying over it.

Mortal Kombat Gets Back To Its Roots

Mortal Kombat, a series known for its gorey finishes, unique fighters, and of course controversy. The one thing this series has not had since its introduction is a title that has stood high among fighting genre giants such as Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Tekken and many others. This is the game that puts an end to that. What this game has that the others before have failed to do was add style, fast paced combo's and action to an other wise more slow paced fighting series.

Mortal Kombat drifts away from the 3D fighting ways of MK vs. DC and its other new gen. predecessors and goes back to a more 2D style of fighting like the older games of the series, and the transition couldn't have felt better for the series. Mortal Kombat is overflowing with content and when you start it up and see these features you will feel overwhelmed with how much they were able to stuff into a fighting game.

The story mode is one of the better ones I have seen in a fighter. The story mode will take you through almost every fighter in Mortal Kombats 26 fighter roster. Story mode takes you through the orgins of the many characters and shows you how many of them came to be. One thing I was very impressed with was the almost seamless transition from cut scene to fighting without any loading screens to be seen.

Another great feature and perhaps the biggest and most time consuming is the addition of the huge 300 level challenge tower. Here you will do various fights all of which have unique challenges inside that you must complete in order to move on, or of course skip it with koins, the currency in the game. Here you will also do mini games such as a "which cup is it in" type of game, and a very unique roulette fighting game.

As I mentioned earlier you will be collecting koins in almost anything you do. Story mode, challenge tower, anything. These koins can be spent at the Krypt, which you may remember from previous titles. In the krypt there isn't a shortage of things to buy. From in game music, artwork, fatalities, and alternate costumes the Krypt is definitely a very welcome part of this content packed game.

The game also of course features multiplayer which is very fun and addictive especially with the added addition to king of the hill mode which will allow up to 7 people to alternate between the king depending on who wins. This mode also offers a rating system so spectators may rate you on your performance. Although many of the matches I played were filled with lag and many of the same characters, it is still a top notch multiplayer experience that any fighting fan will enjoy.

Although being hard to come by I do have my gripes with the game. The bosses in this game are very cheap and don't expect a fair fight even on the easier levels of difficulty. Also as I said before you may run across quite a bit of lag online even with a good connection.

All in all this game is a must buy for any fighting fan, even if your not to familiar with Mortal Kombat as a series you will enjoy this game if you appreciate good fighters. This is my fighting game of the year. Mortal Kombats reboot succeeds in a big way.

Get over and play mortal combat 9

Mortal combat is back and better than ever. With new features such as x-ray attacks, king of the hill online mode, being able to play as freddy couger or kratos, and much more. Charecters are great and fun to play because they are different, unique, and most have great FATALITIES. Yes scorpion and sub zero are still awsome charecters but i would say scorpion is a little better in this game. This game will keep you occupied with 300 challanges in the new challange tower and the new tag match mode that you can play with your buddies. My only complaint is the boss fights are so frustrating by them breaking the rules of the game, but that doesn't take much from the game if you need help there are some good videos online. Overall great game.

Awesome game

The last Mortal Kombat game I played was Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the PS1. After that the series got too stupid and just wasn't as fun after the jump to 3D. That all changed with this new uber- violent masterpiece. I was so excited for this game, i actually rode my bike five miles to go and get it. It was well worth the wait. The game is nearly perfect with great graphics, and seamless controls. The voice acting is even pretty good, and the game made me remember just why I thought Noob Saibot, Smoke, and Scorpion were so awesome in Trilogy. The game even made the previously lame character Jade shine, she is now one of my favorites. The only reason I didn't give the game a 10 is because i noticed balancing issues with a certain red ninja and Shao Kahn is so unfair. I will be playing this game for many months to come.
