The lights are on
I'm not the kind of person who goes for a first person shooter. However I heard of Metro 2033 back when it was in pre-dev and I found it interesting. Fast forward two years when I see it on sale on Steam (of course). I decide to buy it and give this game the shot I wanted to years before. And dear god this game is delivering.
The story (based on a novel of the same name) is engaging, by weaving science fiction with supernatural elements every chapter is a unique experience. The in-game cut-scenes are both a welcome break and do not hinder the game play one bit. The level design is very linear, but don't let that fool you there are many routes you can take in order to complete a level. By either sneaking throughout every level or by running and gunning your way (not recommended).
The game isn't perfect and I have to agree with the many complaints of the bland weapons as well as the poorly implemented "bullet economy". However these are merely small portions of the game and ultimately doesn't take away from this golden experience.
Overall this is a well polished game and it deserves a lot more attention than it got. I can't wait for the next project released by 4A Games.
