Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection

A Speed Run Through History

There are eight games in Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy. That's just about half of the titles that have been released under the Metal Gear banner. This new collection brings together some of the best in the series.

In addition to the eight games, two graphic novels from artist Ashley Wood are in the package. Here's what's included:

  • Metal Gear (NES)
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (MSX)
  • Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation)
  • Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions (PlayStation)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PlayStation 2)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PlayStation 2)
  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PlayStation 3)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Digital Graphic Novel

Curious what's not included? Here's the list of the other Metal Gear title (excluding the mobile games):

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Snake's Revenge (NES - North America Only)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (Game Boy Color)
  • Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Acid (PlayStation Portable)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Acid 2 (PlayStation Portable)
  • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

This trailer comes hot on the heels of news this week that series creator Hideo Kojima would entertain an outside studio remaking Metal Gear Solid. This morning, Just Add Water (responsible for the delightful remake of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath) stepped up and offered its services

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection arrives on July 9, 2013 only on PlayStation 3.

  • I wish this could be ported to PC. I really want to get into this series!
  • I didn't realize there were THAT many! :D
  • Looks Awesome! First comment!!!
  • This is very interesting. I was planning on playing all of them in order, but someone spoiled the ending of MGS4 for me. Is it still worth it to buy all the titles and play through them? MGSV looks really good, and if I have already played the rest of the series, I imagine the story would be much more meaningful.
  • As a newcomer to Metal Gear, I can't WAIT for this!
  • awesome.  me want.

  • Metal gear is the MSX2 version, not the crap NES version.
  • Dont waste your money lol. i played the collection a while back and the story made no sense! it was just random characters and plots lol. plus your guy sucks with a gun and can hardly clear a room lol
  • Wow!!!

  • I'm playing through MGS 1 for the first time right now and am amazed at how well it's held up. I will definitely be getting this collection.
  • "Metal Gear Solid 2: Snake's Revenge (NES - North America Only)"

    It's just Metal Gear 2: Snake's Revenge.

EDIT: It's actually just "Snake's Revenge"
  • Mike, Metal Gear Rising is not a Metal Gear Solid title.
  • The majority of the games not included aren't canon so it doesn't really matter, at least to me, that they're not in there.
  • A part of me wants to pick this up, but I already have them all with the exception of MG1 and 2. I bought the Essential Collection and MGS 4 back in the day, and I also have the HD Collection which gives me Peace Walker. Still, it'd be nice to have.

Also Mike, I'd just like to point out that the PSP games are simply Metal Gear Acid, not Metal Gear Solid: Acid.
  • I'm curious- isn't Portable Ops a canon title? I'm sure it is, but it seems to be left out of EVERY MGS collection, for some reason.
  • Hell Id buy that..I never did play em,would love to.

  • MAN I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS.

  • My mind would be blown if an Actual Metal Gear showed up in MGS V.

  • Thinking I might buy this just to have it. That and the fact I've never played MGS4.
