Piranha Games’ Mechwarrior Online has been available to the public since a closed beta in 2012. Now, the title joins an ever-growing list of free-to-play games on Steam.

The launch on one of the most significant PC platforms comes with the wide rollout of a major improvement to the game. Community Warfare, also called “Faction Play,” allows players to pledge allegiance to one of the Inner Sphere houses and work to conquer territory on its behalf.

There are currently 19 maps and more than 350 mechs available, with servers in three regions (North America, Europe, and Oceania). In addition to the newly implement Faction Play, Piranha Games is planning a series of additional improvements.

Some of these will be announced via live stream tomorrow, December 11, beginning at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern. The event is scheduled to last until 1 a.m. Pacific / 4 a.m. Eastern.

You can tune in on Piranha Games’ Twitch channel and download the game via Steam.
