Hollow Ponds, a team made of people that worked on the whimsical Hohokum and an Adventure Time animator, have announced a card-based roguelite. Loot Rascals takes place on a distant planet with an unfriendly native population, with players working toward the exit of each stage.

Along the way, you’ll pick up equipment represented by cards. Should you die, you’ll lose everything you have in true roguelite fashion. However, the enemy that did you in will hold onto one of your cards.

Should another player defeat that foe, they’ll have the choice of keeping the card or returning it to you. If they hang onto it, your ghost (in hologram form) will hunt them down. If they give it back, your hologram will aid them for a limited time.

Play is turn-based on a hexagonal map. Each movement takes one turn, and enemies can move in response. If you encounter one, combat ensues.

Loot Rascals will be out in early 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC. It will be playable at E3.
