The lights are on
First off you can't really go into this game expecting a lot. Obviously by the concept of the game you can't really expect a rich narrative, especially with the Suda51 name you know you are going to get something "interesting" story wise. Playing it the story isn't too terribly bad, wouldn't say it's bad by any means, but it's just on par I guess. It's an interesting enough story to keep you interested enough to play through it.
So I can look past the story, but the first thing that gets me is the graphics. First off the graphics are quite dated, it would appear the game was released back before 2010. That and the game has a lot of trouble loading textures for some reason, which doesn't help. So ignoring the graphics being some what incompetent the character designs are pretty good. I feel like the character designs are one of the higher points of the game. The only time I feel like I can ignore the graphics being ehh is when rainbows, and bright sparkle rave like color schemes start flashing on screen during sparkle hunt and other times.
The next big flaw is the controls. This is where I feel the game should shine, but sadly you'll find about 5 minutes into game play that the controls are very rigid. Now I will admit I was expecting a sort God of War, or Batman Arkham City beat 'em up/slash 'em up smoothness. Maybe I'm not too great at this game, but combos are kind of a pain to do. It's strange but this one of the first games in a long time where I feel like I have to think to hard to do a combo. I suppose this is an area I should not be surprised about since previous Suda51 games like No More Heroes and Killer 7 were not too great, but they are playable.
So I'm playing this on my PS3, and oh lord the loading screens are long and there are a lot of them. With how long the loading screens are you would think I was gonna get an MGS4 quality cinematic, but noooope.
So now that I'm done tearing this game I'll be honest, although the game is terribly flawed it is still generally fun. Yes it may be mindless slicing up of them zambambos, but it's still amusing. The dialogue can be generally amusing, except for some of the jokes where you can tell they were trying too hard. I also feel this game has one of the best game sound tracks that I've heard a while, perhaps one of the games biggest redeeming qualities. The sound track has something for everyone. Oh yeah the game has a lot of fun unlock-ables too. Overall all it's a somewhat below average game. Not quite worth the money, but possibly worth a play through just for Suda51 insanity.
I'll make this short. This game was almost everything I have been expecting. The arcade style is amazing and keeps the fun going. The graphics are good, if not great because this game is not meant to be realistic looking. This is an arcade style game with a high replay value making you want to go back and tackle more achievements and unlock all the extras.
I gave it a 9 because the only thing that bugged me was the camera.
People shouldn't take this game seriously. It's fun, hilarious, and puts you in a good mood.
Too bad if you came for the babes you sure did waste 60$! you'd be better off wasting it on the internet :) (which i wouldn't advise either)
