The second one takes this to a new level. You're now able to create pretty much anything you want. The limits are your imagination and patience. There is no way you're going to create a masterpiece in one day, it takes time and a lot of planning. But if you are willing to sit through hours and hours of building, you can create something special.

The story mode is great fun and a lot more challenging this time round. The story mode itself only takes 5-6 hours to complete. The idea of this game is to play with friends and there is a definite increase in fun when you play online, even the story mode becomes more exciting. But if you are worried that the story is too short, do not fear there are over 5,000,000 user created levels in the game. Some of them are absolutely crap, but some of them are absolutely outstanding and some of them put MM's levels to shame.

Graphically wise the game looks beautiful and the wide range of colours add to the excitement of the game.

The ability to create your own music and use the fantastic soundtrack gives you a sense of freedom when you are building your own levels. The voice acting is good as well.

Media Molecule have done it again, they know how to make a game that can be played by anyone. If you haven't got this game all ready, then stop reading this and get down to your local game store now or purchase it from the PS store.

Blog Post: Great Game.

LittleBigPlanet 2, the sequel to LittleBigPlanet, is one of the most creative games ever. It has a fun story mode, a deeper create mode, with many gadgets and gizmos, like sackbots, and, well, a decent-ish community. I really have to admit, the community levels are ok, but the ones that were made around the time the game actually came out are amazing. They will BLOW... YOUR... MIND. I won't give out any spoilers (with the exception of mentioning sackbots back there) but if you liked LittleBigPlanet, LittleBigPlanet PSP, or even some other creative game I don't know about, you'll love LittleBigPlanet 2. GET IT NOW! :P

Blog Post: A fantastic and Imaginative Adventure!

When I picked up the Collector's edition of this game, I couldn't wait to play the game I had been waiting for, which was a year. After playing the game for a while, it was even better than I imagined.

The story for this game is quite amazing as you join the resistance who are fighting against the negativitron from stealing pieces from little big planet. Its very exciting to play on these levels that provide plenty of platforming. The graphics in the game are very vibrant as the colors pop out and are very smooth. The levels also look amazing and yet silly from all the things going on. The gameplay is simple as you just jump and drive easy to use vehicles. But as you go towards the creating component, it becomes a bit harder to make and create exactly what you want.

Online is fun as you join others to play many levels on the community side to experience whats out there. You can even create together which can be very fun and exciting to do. The soundtrack is very good to listen to as you get many silly, funny, and amazing sounds and songs the game provides. You can also put on your custom music from your Xmb menu or even create music in the music maker for those who love to make music. Overall the game is one the best games as a platformer and delivers the experience to the young and old, to the simple players and hardcore players of gaming.

Wiki: LittleBigPlanet 2 Guides

Guides for LittleBigPlanet 2

Forum Post: Re: LBP2

oops I meant to say not! stupid keyborad!

Blog Post: Best. I was 100% wrong. I fell in love with the first game, and I decided to go out and buy the second, and it was even better, unsurprisingly.

As usual, the game follows the main character, Sackboy, which for lack of a better term, a brown sack with buttons as eyes and a giant zipper on his chest. How can you watch this character die when you fail a level? It's legit the saddest moment you can witness.

Anyways, throughout the Story, you meet new characters in different locations around the unnamed planet, which I assume would be called the LittleBigPlanet. You play through many whimsical and challenging levels which are required to pass to move on to the next level, and soon enough, the next world.

LittleBigPlanet 2's Story is very different, and the game does have some new features, including Sackbots, which are Sackboy look alikes that are required for you to control to pass some of the levels. I'd have to admit, they are one cool new addition.

As you progress through the Story, you will collect Prize Bubbles, which contain anything from stickers, decorations, and items for your Sackboy, used to customize him.

Speaking of customization, that's what LittleBigPlanet 2 is all about. I always love decorating my Sackperson (although that sounds very weird) to my liking. This is quite simple and easy to do, with the hundreds of unlockable items, and you can even use the items unlocked in the first LittleBigPlanet.

Level building is also back, with more ways to make an epic level.

With thousands of objects to use, you can make anything from the inside of a volcano to a journey down Mount Everest. But the sad part is, it's still rather difficult to make a legitimate level. It's strongly encouraged to watch the tutorials before designing, because if you don't, you will fail.

The best part of the game is back. The amazing online feature. I always enjoy going online and playing levels that random people have created. Some are crazy, scary, and even unbelievably amazing due to the creation.

It's also nice to write a small review and rate the levels.

Speaking of levels, LittleBigPlanet 2 has new Versus levels, which are pretty much mini-games. I've seen anything from Rock 'Em Sockem, and games similar to tic-tac-toe. All of these have to be done with a buddy. I do enjoy occasionally playing these.

Speaking of buddies, LittleBigPlanet 2 is the best when you're playing with one. It's one of the best co-op games I've ever played. It's always cool to have a friend hanging out in your Pod, and exploring community levels, while you smack each other with handheld frying pans.

Overall, LittleBigPlanet 2 is an amazing, near perfect game, and it's the best platformer to exist. Even better than Super Mario Brothers 3. It's so good, the game has almost no negatives to discuss.

-William

Blog Post: Im a weeeeee bit late...

...still glad I purchased it. Sometimes followup games are just not as good the 2nd time around. NOT this time, this game is awesome. Little Sackman (or person for the lady gamers and so forth) can truly do remarkable things you thought the 'Paintenator' dlc was cool! HAAAAH, just wait 'til you see what he can do with the stuff on this game. This game has provided me with hours of enjoyment and entertainment as I wait for another FPS game to come out! Thank you MMR!!!!!

Wiki Page: game guide 3

hello its me so wanna know some good levels? I also think that the story mode can be improved from speech bubbles to somthing a little better. The multiplayer is great, not perfect but great. I also dislike the limit of only being able to create twenty levels. I wish that it was more detailed so that you it wasn't like a 2-D game, moving 3 spaces back and forth and levels being a certain distance long and high. All in all, it is a great game i definitly reccomend it to anyone looking to buy it, but its not perfect, like everything else in the universe.

Blog Post: Media Molecule Crafts an Amazing Sequel

The story in this game is better than the last game and the new creation tools have been made. It took everything that worked in the first title, fixed the stuff that need fixing, and added a whole bunch of mechanics and clever ideas to make it new and refreshing. Everything from racing mini-games to 2-D side scrolling shooters have joined the classic platforming of the original, giving your Sackperson much more variety in his/her/its antics. Plus, with the ability to import your Sackperson from the first game, you won't miss a beat!

The story is slightly more involved this time around as the Negativitron, a giant evil vacuum cleaner, is wreaking havoc by sucking all of the imagination and creativity out of Craftworld. Joining with Larry Da Vinci and Avalon Centrifuge, you help to create an 'Alliance' to fight back! It's a much more cohesive narrative, and consequently makes the 'Story' mode much more enjoyable (although, the final confrontation with the nefarious hoover is a pain in the butt...). It's a good laugh and each unique land you visit in Craftworld is wonderfully detailed and cleverly designed. Once again there are goodies hidden all over the place ensuring that you'll need to play it through multiple times with some friends to get them all.

The fun (yet occasionally frustrating) platforming that is the core of LBP's gameplay returns in spades. The realistic physics engine once again means you need to be paying attention as you run, jump, and swing around each level. The 'not quite 3-D' depth to the 2-D side scrolling is back, giving a layered effect to level design. If you played the first game then this is all old hat to you, but this time Media Molecule have mixed things up with some new toys thrown in to keep it fresh. The most notable of these are the 'Grappling Hook' and the 'Grabinator.'

The 'Grappling Hook' works pretty much as you would expect... you can shoot a line at an object and grapple onto it. But what's clever is that you can control the length of the line, allowing you to change the arc of your swing and therefore the angle of your flight. It takes a bit of practice, you must once again be aware of the realistic physics at work here.

The 'Grabinator' allows you to pick up objects (and other Sackpeople) you normally wouldn't be strong enough to lift and toss them around the place. This comes into play in all sorts of interesting ways like activating switches high up on walls and becomes integral in the pseudo-boss fights at the end of each world.

There is also a new emphasis put on 'drivable' vehicles. These are things like piloting a bee in a 2-D side scrolling shooter reminiscent of an overly cute version of R-Type or racing a caterpillar the size of a school bus (relatively speaking) up the side of a tree in a top down racing simulator that reminded me somewhat oddly of Spy Hunter. Oh, and I mustn't forget the souped-up rabbits and hamsters on meth that you can control in more traditional platforming levels.

Then there are the Sackbots. I love these little guys/girls/things. Basically they are pre-programmed NPC's that follow a set of commands. Sometimes this is simply following your Sackperson around a level, but other times they have more active roles. I don't want to spoil any of the clever uses Media Molecule has come up with for them, so I won't say anymore other than I can't wait to see what the community makes of them as they create their own levels.

The end result of all these additions allows a whole new perspective on level design. There are so many options that, in the story mode at least, some of it feels under-utilized. It's almost like the classic platforming took a back seat to all the new bells and whistles. Still, all these new choices mean that the LBP community has a whole slew of fun new alternatives to experiment with when they create their own levels.

While I only dabbled in the level creator of LBP 2 (too much to do, too little time...), I have to say that at first glance it seems more user friendly. Media Molecule have obviously gone to great lengths to make it even more accessible... but that said, I still get the impression that it will take a rather large time commitment to really get good with these. While I lack the artistic flair (and patience) to create anything remotely interesting, I'm happily looking forward to what the community at large comes up with this time around. While it hasn't been out for very long, some of the stuff that has been created already is mind-boggling. The future is bright, especially once people have more time to play with the new controls. Plus, there is a much more accessible filter, so you can sort through the crap (and let's be real, there is a fair amount of crap out there...) and get to the good stuff!

I'll mention quickly that the graphics in LBP 2 haven't changed much since the original... if anything the levels the designers at Media Molecule have created are even more colorful and epileptic-fit inducing. To be honest, it can almost be too distracting if you see what I mean...

In what some have labeled a controversial move, LBP 2 actually gives voices to some of the characters. Rather than the nonsensical (yet adorable) gibberish spouted by the NPC's in the first game, main story characters have dialogue in what can loosely be called 'cutscenes.' For the most part they work, and I enjoyed the addition... but that said Stephen Fry still steals the show once again. Oh, and the soundtrack is much better this time around.

In the end, Little Big Planet 2 may be the rarest of things... a successful sequel that not only improves upon the original but also expands on it without sacrificing its soul. While it's probably a bit redundant to say if you liked the first, you'll love the second (duh!) I think what this entire series has to offer to both the casual and more hardcore gamers out there simply can't be understated. Giving the public the tools to allow us to give birth to our own brainchilds remains a stroke of genius. So again, thank you to Media Molecule for their efforts, and a big thank you to all those out there in the ether who are taking the time to make levels for the rest of us to enjoy!

Cheers,

Si

Score = 9.5 / 10

P.S. Don't get me wrong i love online multiplayer but thats when their is an objective like how you can level up in Call of Duty. In Little Big Planet 2 the online has no point other then getting new trophies, but if your intrested in trophies then just get Hannah Montanah rather then spend 60 dollars on lbp 2. In Hannah Montanah you can easily get the platinum so why not spend 20 bucks and get the game. DONT GET LITTLE BIG PLANET!!!!!!!! There is no point to this game and if you really want to play with a sack boy just get the first game for half the price.

Blog Post: The Indescribably Magic of Imagination

       Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
When I taught creative writing, the first lesson of the year was always “the blank piece of paper.” Essentially, I asked my students to think of their favorite song, movie, book, or game, and the objective was to realize that everything begins with an idea. Everything. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” would never exist if he hadn’t filled page after page with descriptions of Middle Earth. The celiling of The Sistine Chapel might still be bare if Michelangelo hadn’t painstakingly considered every brushstroke. Creativity and expression are the heart and soul of developer Media Molecule’s second game in the Little Big Planet franchise. Sure, it also has a story mode that can be played solo or with up to four players locally or online, but the real game is to create a game itself. Little Big Planet 2 is really nothing more than a gigantic, interactive blank piece of paper.

The single player story mode has its charm, but its main purpose is not so much to entertain you as it is to show you what’s possible. A giant, robotic, out-of-this-world beast called the Negativitron is swallowing whole parts of Craftworld, and Sackboy is recruited into “The Alliance” of strange anthropomorphic characters to save it. You’ll travel from world to world, conquering level after level at the behest of these alliance leaders. The platforming never becomes stale throughout the story’s 30-plus levels, as the game will constantly introduce you to new challenges and gametypes. There are puzzles, races, boss fights, grapple points, deadly pits, and shootouts galore. The pacing is good, and having a friend join in for certain multi-player only set pieces is encouraged, but never forced.

The problem is, you never really play Little Big Planet to actually play it. Always in the back of your mind is this sense of awe at how cool Media Molecule’s creations are. The little designer in your head will whisper, “you mean I can make that?” While it may be fun and charming to a certain extent, what drives you to spend countless (and often frustrating) attempts to grab those prize bubbles just out of reach is not a sense of completion or a desire for a high-score, it’s that voice saying, “I can use whatever’s in there to make my own world as intricate on screen as I see it in my imagination.”

So when the campaign is finally complete (a solid 6 to 8 hours or so), the true Little Big Planet experience begins. I have to confess, I didn’t play so far through the first game, so dabbling with the creation tools in this sequel as a newbie allows me to share a unique perspective. The game seems to assume a certain level of understanding for how it all works. There are tutorials to watch, but they are very often incomplete. An option to tweak a creation in a certain way won’t make any sense until you view a different tutorial much further down the list. For instance, there are options to adjust a creation’s movement in several different ways, but no explanation of what those adjustments will actually do. A simple “What’s this?” button wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch to include, and would easily alleviate the frustration of creation-newbs like me. Also the tone of the tutorials’ narrator Stephen Fry can be a little too snarky to be educational. The worthwhile technique you’re trying to learn can often be lost amid an attempt at humor, requiring a restart of the tutorial. That’s right, restart; there is no rewind or pause feature for the tutorials, adding to the frustration when you miss the explanation of an important function of a creation tool.

After earning every prize and goody in the story mode and studying all of the tutorials and tools, you’re finally ready to fill in your interactive blank pages. There are literally millions of user-created levels out there already, and a million more no doubt on the way. Expect to dedicate a lot of time and patience to crafting your level into a compelling experience. If not so dedicated, you can probably bang out a level quickly, but its quality will be questionable.

Essentially, there are two audiences targeted by a game like Little Big Planet. You might want to platform through the story levels or an endless supply of user-created downloaded ones. But if you can trudge through the user-unfriendly tutorials, the real reward is given to players who realize the potential and magic of a blank piece of paper and want to create worlds.

(By Joseph Asphahani)

Blog Post: Must Have On PS3

One of the best games on PS3. But the people who bought the game saw its charm and its easy to grasp creation tools. LittleBIGPlanet 2 pulls in the gamer and immerses them into the ethereal dreamscape and takes a hold of their imagination.

LittleBIGPlanet 2's story mode has the same objective: to teach the player how basic tools work. In LBP1, the story told of different Creators who needed Sackboy/girl's help in defeating the Collector. The story was not as immersive and felt like a string of "do this and now do that". However, in LBP2, the story has a similar premise, but it's more actiony and feels like an actual story.

Judging LBP2 solely on story means that you're missing the point. LBP2 is all about teaching the community how to create your own games. In LBP1, community members could create levels to show off to the world and most of them were platform levels. In LBP2, there are shooters and RPGs, RTS, etc. One person in the beta even managed to make a game similar to Heavy Rain. The level had you playing a detective like Jaden (from Heavy Rain) and finding clues using a detective mode.

Speaking of the community, there are now over 3.5 million levels uploaded into the public, and continually growing everyday.

If you haven't gotten LittleBIGPlanet 2 yet, I suggest you go get it. It may be just the game you'll ever need!

Blog Post: LittleBigPlanet 2 is the first game and much, much more.

I love this game. I got it Tuesday, the day it came out. I loved the first game, and knew this one would be even better. The story mode is one creator shorter than the first game, but the tools they give you in create mode make up for this small short fall. The pins are a perfect match for the imaginative gameplay, and some of them are even more creative. They tell you which ones have trophies attached to them, and the trophies are not complicated. Within these 4 or 5 days, I have gotten 33% of them already. In short, I love this game. In a little longer, this is the best game I have played in this genre, or almost any. If you have a PS3, then you NEED THIS GAME. If you don't, go buy one just for this game.
