It almost impossible to describe what makes this game so great. One word: Creativity. You simply cannot own this game without it!

Blog Post: An addictive and inspiring title

LittleBigPlanet is a rare, great first-party title. You can be as creative as you want to be and even express your emotions. It is hard to choose which is better, the story mode, co-op, or online play. In story mode, you can design your pod, create a level and replay levels to get more points. Co-op adds even more fun with 2-player areas that requires a friend. In online play, you can show off your cool user-made levels. In story mode, you jump from place to place (mostly continents) completing the "Creator Curators" levels they made for you. There is a one small issue, though. Sometimes platforming can be a problem an I feel that the developers could have made the user-made content easier. Other than that, this game is great and a smart buy.

Blog Post: Great Portable expeirence.

This i s a game that makes me happy to own a PSP. If your wondering if it's as good as the PS3 verisons, it is.Even though it is a little short, there are still a ton of stickers, and outfits to collect, fun and creative level designs that you won't mind replaying. Also the fact that their are SOOOOOOO many levels up for download made by other players, make this game worth owning in the long run. Highly recommend that anyone who owns a PSP gets it.

P.S. If you haven't gotten a new memory card in awhile, you might wanna invest in one becuase you'll probably find yourself downloading allot of levels, and outfits from the PSN.

Blog Post: Little Big Planet :)

this is a great game all around. The atmosphere of it is great, the creativity, everything. I have yet to be bored of this game. There arent any game ruining glitches yet to be seen.

A 10/10 cant even quite describe it, but thats as far up as it goes.

Blog Post: Build-a-Monium!!!!

The levels in this game are awesome, and when you beat story mode you can go online and play user-created levels or buy new levels from the PlayStation Store. Or if you don't like buying awesome levels and can't find a good level online, make your own! The only problem with this is to make a really cool level with lasers and lights and cars expect to spend quite awhile in the level creator.

Blog Post: Very fun, must have for all PSP owners.

I played LittleBigPlanet on my PS3 and when I got a PSP Go I downloaded the game thinking it was the same as the PS3 version but, it was developed by a different studio. Little Big Planet

Little Big Planet takes a simple idea: create a fun yet complex and challenging platformer, and expands it to stratospheric proportions. By giving the public at large the tools to create their own game levels, LBP has opened the door to an untapped resource. I doubt they expected such and overwhelming response. As cute as the main game is, the breadth and depth of the user-created content is mind boggling... over 3.5 million levels have been created by the avid LBP community. While some of them aren't particularly good, there is more than a handful that show the commitment and creativity that makes you wonder why these people haven't been hired on by Media Molecule!

Where to begin... LBP is really just a platformer at heart. You control a 'Sack-person,' a cuddly little thing (guy or girl, you can dress them up however you want) who runs and jumps through increasingly difficult and complex levels. The story is pretty odd, revolving around an evil "Collector" who is stealing the creations of others and keeping them for himself. Seeing as sharing your creations with others is kinda the whole point of LBP, this is obviously a problem. Sackboy embarks on a quest through jungles and temples, canyons and castles. It's cute, if more than a little bizarre, but that's not really the point, now is it? This is one of those situations where 'Concept' trumps 'Story' in my opinion.

The platforming is robust and clever. Not just 2D but not quite 3D, most of the action involves classic side-scrolling platforming that we have been playing since we were kids. But Sackboy can also move from the foreground to the middle to the background, giving it some depth. That depth creates more options for level design and gameplay. Personally I don't think that it controls particularly well on this plane, as it's sometimes difficult to maneuver your Sack-person onto the correct path. At other times the game will move you into the proper plane seemingly on it's own, like when you jump from the background to the foreground. While the help is appreciated, it can be disorienting, especially if you find yourself overcompensating.

The other major component is the Sackboy's ability to grab stuff. Certain materials are grippable, and Sackboy can maneuver them to make new areas accessible. Perhaps a block of spongy material is strung up over a chasm? Jump, then grip and use your momentum to swing across the gap. You'll notice though, that the momentum is realistic. Let go too soon and you won't have a high enough arc. Let go too late and you'll go straight up, then straight back down to your death. The physics involved in this are truly impressive... seriously. This realistic physics engine gives objects, including Sackboy, real weight. It's ingenious and very effective, you can feel the instant you've mistimed something... you know it won't end well! It makes the game almost frustratingly difficult in places, even if you are marveling at the physics through gritted teeth. That said, when you get it right, it's exhilarating. My girlfriend and I were constantly high-fiving each other after we'd get through a particularly difficult stretch. There is a real sense of accomplishment, especially towards the latter part of the game.

As you play LBP you collect 'Bubbles' that score you points. However, some bigger 'Bubbles' have objects inside (and are worth more points). These collectibles encompass everything from costumes and accessories for your Sackperson (some of which are down-right hilarious) to stickers you can use to decorate your levels. But some of them are functional; materials for use in your creations. The thing is, and I actually quite like this although I've heard some people complain about it, is that to build really cool levels you need to have played through the game to get all the necessary tools and materials to even have the ability to begin to make your dreams a digital reality.

Collectibles are all over the place in LBP, with some that are devilishly well hidden. God only knows how long it would take to get them all... we certainly didn't. That's mostly because just about every level has some form of multiplayer component. In other words, there are sections where you need multiple Sack-people to access it. This might mean that one person moves a switch that will move a platform to the other side of a chasm where there is loot for the taking. One player hops on the platform, the other operates the switch. That's a very simplified version of the puzzles in the game, but you get the idea.... cooperation is necessary.

But what is soooooo cool about LBP is that it puts the tools to create playable levels in the hands of the gamers themselves. There is a whole slew of tutorials to walk you through the creation process... and then off you go! You are only limited by your own imagination and creativity. But the truth is to really make a good level takes a lot of time, not to mention trial and error. It's a fairly complex interface, that takes more than a little practice to get proficient with it. We messed around with it a bit, but I'll be the first to admit I don't have the imagination, patience, or creativity to create a really good level.

I'll admit I actually waited to buy this game because I didn't have Internet at my house. When my girlfriend and I started dating I rushed out to get LBP because it was something we could play together (and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about!). We got the GOTY (Game of the Year) edition because it had some of the top rated user created levels included. I'm not even sure if we have tried them all, but they are really impressive. There are also some free costume packs that came with it, that's about it. But then we got the miracle of Wi-fi Internet. Now we have access to the wealth of user-created content, and let me tell you, it's awesome!

Get online and check out some of the stuff others have created. Some of them are truly astonishing (we played a Dead Space tribute level that was actually scary... how cool is that?!). These strangers have put and insane amount of time and energy into these efforts, purely for the joy of creating something to share with everyone. And for that I am grateful, because it essentially makes LBP infinitely re-playable. Again, over 3.5 million levels have been created... that's a LOT of work. And while not all of them are gems, it's worth wading through the rubbish just to see what is possible, if only you put your mind to it!

I'll quickly mention the technical stuff beyond the cool gameplay physics. For what LBP is, the graphics are pretty good. I'm particularly taken with the textures... the cloth that makes the Sackboy looks real. The backgrounds and level design look good as well, as relatively simple or detailed as you want them to be. Of course, the good people at Media Molecule have outdone themselves setting the bar very high, making each level almost overwhelmingly colorful and vibrant!

Most platformers are from an older era, but we know their jingles by heart. Even if you aren't a gamer, you probably know some of them in all their 8-bit glory! LBP is no exception. Some of the soundtrack is quite cute, complimenting the cute graphics and cute characters making some sort of disgusting, yet irresistible, cuteness sandwich. Of course, just like the classic tunes, these get a little old as well.

There isn't really much in the way of voice work (Sackpeople sadly don't talk much, but if they did, oh the stories they'd tell!) with one major and notable exception... the wonderful Steven Fry is the voice of the narrator, who not only tells the tale of LBP but also explains how all the tools work when you are creating levels. All done in a glorious, refined, hoighty-toighty British accent! He's brilliant...

LBP is a great game on so many levels, it's hard to describe them all. The gameplay, while simple and accessible, can be fiendishly difficult towards the end providing a healthy challenge. The plethora of collectibles force you to replay each level multiple times with a thorough eye if you want to find them all, not to mention you'll need the help of some friends. While I never really did more than dabble in the level creator, I can't tell you the inordinate amount of time we spend simply dressing up our Sack-people. It's fun to just make quirky costumes! Then there is the sheer number of user-created levels. It means there will always be something new to try. All in all, I'd say Little Big Planet needs to be experienced by every gamer out there, and many kudos to Media Molecule for providing us the means to become a closer community!

Score Factors

CONCEPT/STORY 49/50

GRAPHICS 44/50

DESIGN 49/50

GAMEPLAY 44/50

SOUND 43/50

REPLAY VALUE 49/50

ATMOSPHERE 47/50

ENTERTAINMENT 46/50

371/400 = 92.8% =

FINAL SCORE of 92.8

Final Word

Little Big Planet is a truly impressive accomplishment. Media Molecule should be commended for not just creating a fun and clever game, but for introducing the tools to allow the gaming community to create for themselves. I'd say the response they have received speaks for itself. I'll admit I'm a mere leech to the brilliant efforts of others, but I've enjoyed not only the game on it's own but the creations of the community at large as well. So to Media Molecule I say thank you, but I also thank all the people who have put their own time and effort into their creations, because we have enjoyed them at our house!

Cheers,

Si

P.S. This is the only ps3 game that I know of that lets you play with people in your house and online at the same time. It’s the perfect game for all ages and is great to play with my wife who had previously only played the sims. As far as game play goes it a side scroller that works very well, all the levels are loaded with tons of hidden items that take some thinking to obtain. The main story is a little short but the game is loaded with online and extra levels that will keep you interested for hours of non stile game play. It also has a huge customizable character base and YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN LEVELS anyway you want! I can’t compare the normal LBP to the GOTY because I only have the GOTY but from what I understand the normal version does not have the metal gear solid levels. Anyway to some up my not very helpful or informative review this game is very good for all ages and is a must have if you like platformers of any style!

Wiki: LittleBigPlanet Guides

Guides for LittleBigPlanet

Wiki Page: The Creators Companion

Are you having trouble in Create mode? Do your friends scoff at you pitiful attempts at getting hearts? Well no longer can they laugh! These are some surefire tips to helping you get on track with a level.

1: Using Pistons- This took me a while to comprehend when the game first came out. Pretty soon, you're going to realize that pistons are the bomb diggitty. This is a mistake I always used to make: Where you make the piston connect from, affects how it moves. Say you want to have a brick thats connected to the floor below you, that pushes up when you stand on it. NEVER, under any circumstance, start the piston from the brick! You always make your first connection from what you plan to stay still.

2: AVOID GLUE! - Glue, is very handy, but can ruin some contraptions if used incorrectly. Remember, if you have something, like an piston/winch elevator, or a spinning object, DO NOT GLUE IT!

3: Go Small - This one is fairly simple. If you're planning on making a background for your level, turn on the grid, and instead of making one massive brick, divide your background into small pieces. It leaves room for more detail, like stickers, and other materials.

4:Lots of Stickers - I CANNOT stress this enough: using stickers and decorations may be hard work, but truly helps the level if they are used correctly.Enough said.

5: Making more complex contraptions - If you really want to wow people with your levels, eventually you're going to have to make them pretty complicated. Try just goofing off in create mode: making an almost rube goldberg-style contraption with plenty of spinning wheels, magnetic keys, and pistons. Grasping how to make behind-the-scenes contraptions can really improve your levels.

6: Learning how to use Switches - Alternate Title - DO THE TUTORIALS! - Its vital to have an incredibly firm grasp on how the switches work. I really don't need to explain anything: just fiddle around, and read the tutorials.

7: Setting the Mood - Your level needs to have character. So you may want to set the fog, or lighting to something a bit dimmer. If you are going to darken the level, or obscure the screen with fogginess, always remember to do it AFTER the main level has been finished. You'll thank me afterwards.

8: All that Creative Crap - Make the things in your level varied. Don't be afraid to add a race every now and then, and whatever the level, ALWAYS add lots of score bubbles. I still make the mistake ofnot adding enough score bubbles to my levels to suit peoples needs. I'm not sure why it helps, but it really does.

9: Music is Vital - Just play some music in your level. Enough Said.

10: Abuse Glitches - MM may not love this too much, but it can greatly improve your levels: Abuse the abundance of fun glitches out there. Have fun with invisible walls (Turn off grid and shrink dark matter as small as it'll go), Make giant magic eyes and red buttons for bizzare effects(Attach them to a basic material, then simply increase the size of the item its attached to), and just any other interesting phenomena you can find.

I hope that this guide can at least give you a basic idea on some decent ways to become a better creator. Good luck crafting your own masterpieces!

-Skater Llama

Wiki Page: The Secret Electric Sackboy Costume!

You've heard about it. Maybe tried a few different methods, but had no success. This is the ONLY way to get the costume, after the original method was patched.

To start, anything about electrecuting yourself, pausing the game, then turning off the controller no longer works. This was the original method, but was patched LONG ago. The new method is as simple, if not simpler.

First, go into edit mode, and make a long rectangle of wood. Second, electrecute it. Third, reset your costume. Then, pause your game, hover over the wood, drop by pressing down on the D-pad, then quickle pause, and rewind.

Note:This method may take a few tries alone. But if you join a friends party, and have them unpause and rewind for you, it tends to work much better.

If you now look successfully electrocuted, congratulations! Now go into your popit, and save your costume. Enjoy Your new electric skin!

Blog Post: Magic Enters Your PS3 Via Little Big Planet

Back in the day before games were even a thought in the worlds head, us humans were inspired to create. And then share our creations with others. And use others creations! And then people started buying cars and doing accounting stuff and then a majority of the creative energy in the world dropped to an all time low. But with the release of Little Big Planet......There is hope for the earth once more.

Little Big Planet Basically Opens the gate to Exploration, Creativity, and Fun and let's ya loose. The Greatest Handmade Adventure, Is it a Platform Game? No, It's a platform for Games! This is the first and basically only game that the Quality is only Confined by your imagination. So please by all means let it fly! With over 2 and a half Million levels, you could call it an MMO the greatest MMO of all time, I mean You think wow is the best i mean it only has like 11.5 subscribers! So please if you only play one ps3 game (god forbid) make sure it's this one.

But Enough with the compliments let's talk about the gameplay......

It's awesome. The tools are easy to use (and fun to use) i myself have made a Teleporter which was awfully easy to make i might add. Were The Good The Bad and the Ugly meet.

The Good: Levels Like the ones i just listed.

The Bad: Copying Levels those anoying shark survivals bomb survivals ect. Now back to the actual game.

Just to say Sack boy is definately the best charecter in gaming to date!

If you can create you just got more out of your game. I have literally nothing negative to say about this game. It's definately worth buying a PS3 for this game. I mean I did. So please if you wan't to have fun this summer please buy it i suggest getting game of the year edition by the way. I guess you can list your favorit levels if you want and thanks for reading.

-Phazerz123

Wiki Page: Black Popit Secrets Revealed

You know when you first saw that guy with a black popit and wanted to know how to get it? Well its becoming more common not from collecting... but accidents with friends. How you get is simple. just hold the playstation button for a few seconds until a black screen comes up and and go to controller settings. Simply change the controller number and switch to guest. If you do not have it, repeat the process until you do. Remember there are downsides to the black popit. It makes radius's invisible and you can only tell a black sticker from the name. But it also acts like any other popit. For example those continent looking things on the planet that match your player color will now be black, as will items that change to match your player color, and your paintonator paint, but sometimes it makes rainbow paint, vomet, poop, and blood paint(something the creator of Test Subject 101 will want to look at). There is hardly anything else to know about the black popit, but making it permanant is too complicated for me to explain.

Blog Post: LittleBigPlanet

This game is fun for all ages. The're not cheep on the graphics eather. This game is simply amazing. Let's start with graphics. They are detailed, even your SackBoy's moustache is extremely detailed!!! You start off not neccesarily "naked" but plain. British comedian Stephen Fry takes you through the tutorials, explaining everything yet being funny at the same time. You might think this is just a normal 2.5 D platformer with 3 planes. You can, however, make your own levels! The tools are comprehensive, so you'll have to go through about 35-50 tutorials. Once you make a level, you can upload it online and play, tag, and heart other peoples levels. The game also has 4-player local or online. If players are all over the place in a level, the camera will jerk around and people may die.

Overall, LittleBigPlanet is great and cannot be missed.

Blog Post: dude

I'm going to ban you
