Ruling Them All, One Brick at a Time

If you've played any of Traveler's Tales' Lego games before you pretty much know what to expect from the Lego Lord of the Rings.  Gameplay is simple yet addictive and it's designed to be enjoyed by all ages, and can result in a blast of a co-op experience.  Controlling each character is fun and there are a ton of them, which should please even the biggest Tolkien nerds.

The game takes you through all three films, capturing most of the iconic scenes and putting you right in the middle of it all.  TT does a fantastic job of designing their missions based around familiar content that fans have come to love while making it all very fun and engaging.  I consider myself an avid fan of the fiction and have played LotR movie adaptation games before.  That being said, I found myself predicting what each level was going to play out like and each time I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of creativity put into the design.  They do a fantastic job of crafting interesting gameplay that would only work in a Lego game

After finishing the story mode you are free to explore the entire game world at your leisure and with whoever you desire to play as.  There are tons of collectibles to find and things to do in the world post-game.  Sidequests are abundant and simply roaming around and dinking with the world and locations never failed to put a smile on my face.  The game is super charming.  It should also be noted that there is a bonus level that is absolutely worth seeking out.

Lego Lord of the Rings excels in every way it needs to.  Nothing it does is truly groundbreaking in terms of innovation but it does a fantastic job of perfecting everything we have come to know and appreciate from Lego games this far.  It is so much fun to be immersed in this version of Middle-Earth, which is loaded to the brim with fan service for Tolkien fans.  The amount of content found here will guarantee to keep completionists busy.  This is a great release in regards to both the Lord of the Rings franchise and the ever-expanding library of licensed Lego games.
