Batman Is Bringing A Heroic Posse In New LEGO DC Super Heroes Game

Late last year, CEO Martin Tremblay revealed that LEGO Batman 2 would be the next installment in Traveller's Tales' long line of LEGO games. Now Warner Bros. Interactive is making it official, providing the first details from LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

The sequel is based on LEGO's new line of DC-infused toys, in which Batman shares the spotlight with a variety of other acclaimed heroes. Players will still be able to use the Dark Knight's gadgets while on patrol in Gotham City (including a new power suit, and a Hazard Cannon for sidekick Robin), but the sequel adds straight-up superheroes to the mix. Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Green Lantern are just a few of the heroes who will be pitching in to (temporarily) rid the world of the Joker and Lex Luthor.

"LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes builds upon the action and cooperative gameplay experience established in our best-selling LEGO video game to date, LEGO Batman: The Videogame," said Tom Stone, managing director, TT Games. "We're offering fans a rich and expansive Gotham City environment filled with cool characters, great customization options and plenty of surprises that families, young gamers and DC Universe fans can enjoy together."

When Stone mentions best-selling, he isn't kidding; the first LEGO Batman game has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide.

Look for LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes this summer on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, Nintendo DS, 3DS, and PlayStation Vita.

  • Oh heck yes. Now just waiting for them to announce Lego: Lord of The Rings.
  • I haven't played a lego game since the original xbox. This looks like a great game to start playing them again.

  • This is awesome.  LEGO Batman is my favorite of all the LEGO games.  Also, I think it's a smart move that they hit all the consoles and handhelds.

  • Sweet, Lego Superman. Not a big Superman fan, but it would be so awesome to have his powers.

EDIT: I just want to point out that I realized this is a Batman game, I just saw Superman up there and thought it was cool.
  • "A rich and expansive Gotham City environment filled with cool characters, great customization options, and plenty of surprises"  Hmmm, rich and expansive as in... OPEN WORLD!?  Probably not, but I can dream.

  • Mod

Well it's no Arkham City, but this might be the shot in the arm that LEGO games need.

  • This is cool DC Universe news. I really hope LEGO games for Marvel and Lord of the Rings are in the works. LEGO Marvel Super Hero toys are currently scheduled for May 2012. And LEGO Lord of the Rings toys are scheduled for June 2012.
  • I'm excited for this. I always thought the Justice League cartoon would make a great Lego game and I think the LEGO Batman game is the best one besides the Star Wars ones.

  • I might have to get this, since I'm on a DC binge.

  • I wonder how superman will work in here... will you be able to fly everywhere?
  • I very excited to get another Lego games after getting 3 games this last year!  But what about a Lord of the Rings Lego game?

  • just do NOT buy this for the Wii. The controls suck the fun out of the game
