L.A. Noire's Launch Trailer Sets The Stage

It's hard to believe that L.A. Noire is almost here. It's been over a year since we brought you the first details on the game in our cover story, and the hype has been steadily building ever since.

Even though the game is from Rockstar, don't expect L.A. Noire to play like a 1940's era Grand Theft Auto. Instead, players will be participating in methodical police work, interviewing suspects and scouring crime scenes for clues. Interrogations are made much easier thanks to the game's impressive facial-capture technology. As you can see in the trailer below, actors' performances were captured in stunning detail, allowing players to intuitively tell when the people they're talking to in the game aren't being completely honest.

The game is being released May 17 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

  • playing some max payne to get me into that "noir" mood.

  • Only a few more days until I can run Dan over repeatedly in the game. It's going to be great.
  • First!
  • I have a huge feeling this game is going to FLOP

Reason why? People are going to want GTA but its nothing like it and then some people who like Heavy Rain will want that, but again it wont be. Its going to be one of those in between games what appeals to a select group and most will hate it. Sure it looks decent but that wont make up for the gameplay.
  • I've been waiting for this game ever since I first read that cover story. Can't freaking wait.

  • Hard to believe that after all these years... Anyone else remember that super short teaser on rockstars site? The one with the car just going down the street? That's how long i've been following it.

EDIT: I just rewatched the teaser. No facial animations, lol. Kinda weird seeing it like that. I guess some guy chases this other guy, its been so long, I couldn't even remember what happened :P

EDIT: NO! I was right! The first teaser WAS just a car going down the street. Silly me.
  • Want want want wa-HHHNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG....

This is gonna be a great year for gaming.

Thinking about what next gen's systems with this tech will look like sends my imagination reeling.

  • I'm counting down the days. I can't wait for this. 5 more days to go!

  • OMFG.  soooooooooo excited!!!!!!!!

  • I hope I can spend the entire day playing on the 17th.

  • I can't wait!

  • so psyched for this! RockstarGames is the reason i picked up a controller and fell in love with video games in the first place. the trailer looks great!
  • I've been excited for a lot of games over the past 2 years, especially ones for established IP that I have enjoyed previous games, but this is by and far my personal most anticipated new IP in more years than I can count. I've always been a huge fan of detective procedural in both written and TV format, and a chance to play a true detective type, like Goran from Law and Order: Criminal Intent, or Rex Stout as a more period type comparison...just plain gold in my book.

  • This game looks like it'll be at least a 9/10. Because it's so different from any game out there I'd have to wait for a review though to see if it's worth the $60 price point. I might wait for a $30 deal, no offense Rockstar.
  • this is one of those games that really embarrasses the film industry by doing what they do, but much, much better.

  • We'll see how this turns out. I applaud them for trying something new and taking a chance. Whether it works or is received well..remains to be seen. Sadly after the massive hype train vs. the reality of the mediocre quality of GTA 4, I'm going to have to be extra careful what I believe from the mouth of reviewers.
  • Sweeeeeeeeet. And how come it says "Games mentioned in this article" then has ps3 listed, but up top it has the xbox logo? Get ur stuff straight GI.
  • Mod

I sure hope it's as good as it seems. Guess I'll find out next week.

  • To the naysayers: remember what most of us all thought about RDR? some of you we're downright refusing to buy because it looked to... different. but i bet you all rushed to buy when word of mouth spread. Rockstar has NEVER made a flop. ever. it will be good, and multiplayer isn't required in this day and age.
  • Sooooooooooooo awesome!
