Zelda Conducts Carnage With The Wind Waker In Hyrule Warriors

Hyrule Warriors is breaking canon in the most glorious of ways. The latest trailer shows off Princess Zelda wielding Toon Link’s most powerful tool: the Wind Waker.

From the game of the same name, this enchanted baton allows its wielder to control gusts of wind. As you can see, that can be used to great effect with tornados and powerful gusts.

My only concern is that enemies seem to be casually standing around right next to Zelda without attacking. Average enemies in Musou games aren’t too much of a threat, but they should probably at least make the effort.

Hopefully, this was just to showcase Zelda’s Wind Waker-powered move set. We’ll know for sure as we get closer to the September 26 launch on Wii U. For closer looks at the rest of the announced cast, check out our roundup.

  • Oh this is chill as hell, I just love what they're doing here man!
  • Put the game on the hardest difficulty and you'll see the enemies attack you like crazy. That's what I'm doing when I get Hyrule Warriors.
  • Looks interesting but her move set looks really slow. Enemies were just chilling there and the ones attacking weren't even hitting her while casting... So either they were playing in God mode or they have some balancing left to be done. I would like to see either movement or cancels while casting, but maybe that's just too deep for straight brawler. I do like the idea of casting with music though.
  • My biggest concern is you play the game and 2 1/2 hrs later and its beat!
  • Zero interest. Just give us a new Zelda game please
  • Tons of Interest. Cant wait for this game.

  • Haha, awesome. I now wonder if characters are able to switch weapons on the fly... Mike, it looks to me like one or two enemies DID try to hit Zelda, but she appears invincible during casting animations. Everyone keeps parroting "the enemies are just standing there," but why would they post a trailer in which the character's attacks are getting interrupted every five seconds by a Moblin attack? These trailers are meant to showcase the characters and their attacks.
  • GIVE ME GAME NOW! No wait, scratch that, give me WiiU NOW!
  • Were those Skyward Sword Link and Zelda costumes at the end? Surprised no one picked up on that. And I have to say, even as a Legend of Zelda fan desperate for something new to play on my Wii U, I don't find the prospect of this game very exciting. I got bored just WATCHING that trailer. Mindless button mashing at its finest. There are certainly fans of that kind of gameplay, and I'm sure a lot of people will end up loving the final product of this game, it just doesn't seem like it's my kind of game.
  • Zelda... is the Wind Waker. You lied to me Nintendo!
  • Watching until the end it is clear there will be a lot of meat included in this game.

  • Actually, on easy the grunt enemies don't do much at all in most DW games.

  • That was one epic rendition of the Skyloft theme in the background.

  • It'll be both hilarious and awesome if Malo is a playable character. He is such a sarcastic little fella.

  • "My only concern is that enemies seem to be casually standing around right next to Zelda without attacking. Average enemies in Musou games aren’t too much of a threat, but they should probably at least make the effort." Did they actually get around to making enemies that attack at some point? I think I gave up on the DW games by one of the xbox ones, haven't played any from the past gen at all.

  • Zelda is really cute when she smiles.

  • Come on, the answers are right in front of you. This is nothing but a Dynasty Warriors game with Zelda themes, nothing else. There's no tuning, it is what it is, a cash in. People can enjoy it, there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not some AAA game.
  • to those people who worries that the enemies are just standing around if you watch the video again and focus your attention to those enemies standing beside zelda you can clearly see that they are indeed attacking her but for the purpose of demonstration the developers apparently turned of maybe the script for zelda taking damage or maybe her models character collider or maybe the enemies collider but it is definitely turned of, so they can't really hit her or damage her so basically the animation for getting hit is turned of, now as you can surely realize this is a recording of a demonstration of the wind waker weapon, so it would be pretty embarassing to show a demonstration video showcasing moves of something and be interrupted when you are hit by the enemy is it not? so you do the math.
