  • I hate to sound like a Halo fanboy with a radical opinion. But why is it that Halo which has the most sandbox features ever seen on a console FPS with all sorts of customization gets a 9.5 when God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption, and Starcraft 2 all get better scores doing little outside of their basis genre structure? I really hate that I'm griping about a .5 difference but it really bothers me that all the other features that Halo Reach has isn't enough for GI to forgive the game of the two slight issues. Heck Call of Duty Mw2 got a 9.75 and all it had was multiplayer, campaign, and spec ops missions. Halo Reach has Campaign, multiplayer, firefight, (all with matchmaking) theater, custom games, forge, and all the improvements from the last one.

Sorry I'm griping but its really bothering me no matter how much I hate the fact that it actually is

  • Have you played the full version of Halo Reach? And you shouldnt compare other scores and you could customize your games in mw2 just you no matchmaking so you had to invite friends spec is op is basically campaign with co-op

Only thing Halo really has over mw2 is Forge and theater which were both in previous halo games so it didnt do anything new(i could be wrong here though)

  • -implying that Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was an improvement over COD4-

  • They lowered that .5 because they said the characters aren't as likeable or cared for as much as Sparten 117 is. God of War can have that connection. John Marston was an easy likeable person so much that people hated the ending.

  • Actually MW2 was an improvement it just wasnt polished maybe if IW put more time in it wouldve been better

  • Actually  i think they meant in of the halos the characters are flat in reach they made improvement but they arent yet

As if that's actually worth a whole .5 difference? I could see it as a .25 maybe but half of a whole point is just a bit too much if you ask me.

Again I really hate that I'm actually worrying about this small incremental difference

dude you like the halo series youve defended it many times before so its normal that your worried about little points like that.

  • As gamers, we've all felt the disappointment you are feeling right now, when our game didn't receive the 10 that it is in our mind. Tell you what, I'd love to see your review of the game and I'll tell you what I think. I thought this review by Game Informer was honest and objective and fell right in line with my expectations as to what I thought they'd give it.

  • honest definitely, but with all the features halo reach offers that other shooters have yet to catch up on (Seriously COD: Black ops is the first to really implement theatre mode) that it would compensate for any of the games weaknesses.

  • I wholeheartedly agree with you Vurtax, one mishap with character development has no right to take away the  massive achievement Halo: Reach is. Bungie and Reach deserve that 10 more than any other game.

  • Character development was one of the things Bungie wanted to implement into the game. This is why GI talks about it as well. You have to remember, even if the article states only good things about the game, that doesn't mean the game deserves a 10. A game could have done everything right and still receive a 9. Besides, it still earned Platinum status, so obviously it still is an amazing game. We should all be excited!

I know its just considering all the other games this year that got better scores (God of War 3, Red Dead Redemption, Mass Effect 2, Starcraft 2) I would've thought Reach would've been right up there despite the slight dissapointment in character development and the almost-never occuring issue of campaign checkpoints. Hell Starcraft 2 still got a 10 despite all the removal of features fans had come to love like LAN multiplayer and what not

  • Well look a it this way you know you will love Halo, you know it will be universally praised, and so what if those game got higher scores different reviewers have different outlooks on games one may give it a 9.5 and another might have given it an 8.5 look at it that way.

  • Barely any game that comes out now days or at any time really deserve a 10, although a 10 does not mean a game is perfect, the game would have to be almost flawless, which I do not think any game in the this generation or previous gen deserve a 10. I am satisfied with a 9.50, it means  that the game is a must play and that it is a great game. I am going to buy this game because I love the series especially the first game.
