Rockstar Shows Collector And Special Edition Bonuses, Details Hereditary-Based Character Creation System

Rockstar announced the Special and Collector's editions of Grand Theft Auto V back in May, but the latest update on the developer's website goes into much greater detail.

Along with showing some of the outfits that come included with these editions of the game, you can also see the CarbonRS sports bike and the high-end Khamelion electric car in the photo gallery below.

We knew Niko would be available to play as in the game's multiplayer for Collector's Edition purchasers, and now we know that Claude and Misty from Grand Theft Auto III can be used as parent options within the hereditary-based character creation system. What's that you ask?

GTA Online introduces a new spin on traditional character creation with the hereditary-based creation system. Select your character’s appearance by choosing your parent’s heritage, then use the gene dominance meter to dial-in which parent your appearance favors more. Additionally, you'll customize your character's daily activities - everything from family time to illegal work and sports to couch potato hours all have an impact on your character’s appearance and skill set (and you can always rank up your skill stats more via gameplay). As part of the Collector’s Edition package, you'll get Niko Bellic, along with both Claude and Misty from Grand Theft Auto III to use as parent options within the character creation system.

The update also reveals exactly what each of the core single-player protagonists specializes in:

Michael is an expert marksman - his Special Ability slows down time in a gunfight allowing him to pick off his targets with greater ease. Franklin is a skilled driver with sharp reflexes - his Special Ability lets him slow down time while driving any road-based vehicle, allowing him to quickly navigate through traffic with ease and take corners at high speeds. Trevor is a drug-addled sociopath with a short fuse - his Special Ability sends him into a rage, causing double damage to enemies while only taking half as much damage himself when hit.

Grand Theft Auto V recently suffered a small leak due to an error by Sony.

Grand Theft Auto V is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, which is not tomorrow which is incredibly disappointing. For more on the game, check out all the coverage from when the game appeared on the cover of our magazine.

  • Mod

    OOOOO that is cool.

  • Awesome stuff!

  • Im still trying to figure out how can Rockstar fit all this into one game......Were talking about a map the size of San Andreas, Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 all together

P.S Plus activities, A.I. Mini Games, etc.....
  • So. Epic. Can't. Wait.

  • Am I the only person that could really care less about Grand Theft Auto? Destiny. Now that's a game to look forward to!
  • Man.... This game is gonna be freakin' epic.
  • I'm not sure about the special abilities.. Grand Theft Auto is supposed to be the more realistic open world game. Not that that will stop me from buying it though. Lol
  • I took a week off of work to play the crap out of this game.
  • that sounds like a really neat character creation system....I'd love to see more things like that implemented into more RPGs, imagine the cool characters you could create in fantasy games...........Sept 17th is so close yet too far away!
  • If Niko or Claude is my parent for my character online....what does that change? Does that mean my character has a preference for awesome jackets and weird pants?
  • What would Claude's traits be? he never spoke :o
  • Aren't there also some exclusive weapons (a riot shotgun and a hammer, if I recall correctly)?
  • All my orifices are ready...
  • I can't wait to mod a car in this game and then up getting in a high speed chase with the cops after I accidentally bump into one of them as I am getting out. During the chase, I will look at the beautiful landscapes instead of the road. Distracted by the scenery, I will not notice that I am approaching a cliff. Too late, I will jump out of the car in an attempt to survive only to be hit by one of the cop cars chasing me, sending me flying along side my car to the bottom of the cliff. Just before I hit the ground, the car explodes below me, sending me sky high. I will then land back on top of the cliff and go out in a blaze of glory as I fight the cops. And that's only the first ten minutes of the game.
  • I pre-ordered the collectors edition cant wait to play this game :)
  • That character creation system sounds really cool. Depending on just how well it works out, it would nice to see something similar start popping up in more games, specifically RPGs.

  • Damn it I really want that car. But the hat and bag just do nothing for me. Hopefully it'll get a separate release down the road.

  • I dont really know about the character creation. I'd rather just make my own person myself. This parent thing sounds too much like The Sims 3, and I had some of the ugliest sims ever when they generated a sim. I hope they have the option to just make it yourself too.
  • GOTY enough said. sorry last of us and bioshock and upcoming games like watch dogs. cause when rockstar makes a game they make it so hard to compete from their awesome soundtrack to their always good story snd their fluid gameplay and now this multiplayer looks to be like a smaller scale of ps home with alot of things to do from robbing stores with friends or just checking out your friends home or playing of the hundred actives they to do. though they are very, very good games i just dont see them winning nominated yes, winning no.
