As far as I can see the only thing that makes forza a game worth playing is the customization of your cars appearance.

I don't know about you but I dont buy racing sim games so I can sit there for hours making a cool picture on the outside of my car. I want a game that feels as close to possible as actually racing.... and on this front Forza cannot compete with Gran Turismo.

The other credit I will give to Forza is the crash damage looks much more realistic (a sadly under developed feature of GT5) but GT5 still wins in my book!

Blog Post: Gran Turismo 5 Only Gets Better!

First off, this game is pretty awesome, if you haven't read the other reviews. So I won't be redundant on what they said. Just a few things I would like to note.

The game itself can be tricky getting used to if your used to arcade style racing games. But once you get used to it, it becomes incredibly fun. With over 1000 cars in the game and the ability to custom tune all of them, you really get a wonderful sensory overload of wanting to try out car after car. The Photo Travel feature is nice too but it also requires you to know a thing or two about photography, as it allows you to manually adjust a cameras aperture, shutter speed, and other features. The online community is also fun to play around with. I've made some great online friends through this game.

This game has many more great things about it but I want to stress another aspect that is overlooked by reviews. The company that made the game (Polyphony Digital), updates the game every once in a while to add content, cycle cars in a special dealership that they hand picked, and fix problems and add new features to the game. In the time that I've had the game, they have added lots of new races in the Seasonal Events, and have gone on to put mid championship race saves so you can save the game in the middle of a long championship. They recently added cool racing gear for you and your drivers also that you earn through racing.

The few downsides to this game that I want to note would be that the game does not feature any clutch for manual transmission. Only shifting. And if you want to use a stick shift or paddle shifters, than you'll have to opt for an expensive race wheel. The nice race wheels for this game are costly even at the lower costing wheels. They are worth it if you really love this game but the pricing is kind of steep. Other disappointments would include the game's extremely limited Course Maker. Sorry to say it, but no, it unfortunately does not let you completely create your own course. It rather gives you some numbers to adjust the courses difficulty, width, sharpness of turns, banking, and a few other minor things. It is not so much a course maker but a course chooser, as the game basically decides the way the course turns out for you. My last problem with the game is that it barely supports 2-player gaming. It can be a pain when I want to share this awesome game with a friend or family member. I live though, even with these few problems.

All in all, AMAZING GAME!!!

Blog Post: Graphics Are So Realistic!

The graphics make it appear as though I am watching a DVD or viewing the onboard camera for some race! I have had the game since it first came out, and have thoroughly enjoyed it pretty much once a week since then (much to my wife's dismay). I am amazed at how each car actually feels different from one another.

Blog Post: Perfection

What more can I say than perfection? The ULTIMATE racing experience on a home console has to be this. I have never seen a racing game so detailed since Gran Turismo 4. This is a true masterpiece with some flaws that really doesn't degrade from the total racing experience. As soon as I got in the GT5 "GT Mode" area it was clear to me that I was not in GT4 anymore. The main interface has been redone. (Keep in mind I never played GT5 prologue.) I tried starting the same way I did in GT4, buy a used car right? I saw cars that I had the money to buy but I couldn't because this new system of leveling up didn't let me. So I had to leave that used Nissan Skyline and buy a Silvia instead. But it works because it lets me progress in the career in a much more efficient way. I need to remind newcomers that GT5 is a frustrating game if you are not patient, you won’t get that Enzo Ferrari if you don't have the needed level to buy it but have patience and basically stick to your guns and you will be fine because patience is REWARDED. You'll soon be going from that Toyota Vitz to a Lamborgini Gallardo to a Formula 1 Race Car.

I was happy so see that GT5 is still one of the only games that as a default have the X as the accelerator, square as the brakes, ETC. Even though I use the analog sticks to accelerate and brake, so many racing games are now using the bumpers and it just doesn't feel natural because pulling the back bumpers although is a great option, personally, its not as effective as the analog sticks or the classic button pushing.

The cars in this game are unbelievably detailed in this game, there are two types of cars in this game which are the premium (the ones you buy off the dealership with cockpit view, more detail, are able to use as your GT life avatar if you take pictures of them because photo mode is exclusive to premium cars) and the standard type (which are the ones without cockpit view, less detailed etc. And are normally given as a gift by the game or the used cars you buy) the cockpit view is amazing and something new to the series as it is the windshield wipers. These are minimal stuff but work wonders when on a night drive with the rain pounding hard on you. The interiors are insanely detailed but sometimes there are these shadows on some tracks that are pixilated on the cockpit and feel out of place when playing in 1080p in a photo-realistic race track on Rome. Of course same applies for some cars in the game, there are exteriors on some cars (the standard type because clearly every premium type car is detailed to the last pixel) that show some badly made exteriors pixels and are a downer when racing next to a Audi R8. These are the minimal and only degrade a little of the game. Same can be said for the short (about 3 minutes) introduction to NASCAR where the human face animations are bad, but this is such a minimal part of the game that after you see that 3 minute video you wont see it again unless you choose to. This just shows that this is a minimal part of the game, a mere 1%. Where the game really takes the hit is in the new damage feature, it won't show until really in the game and same goes for the updated AI. It seems that you are playing with mindless racers that let you pass in the early stages, they start to get smarter later in the game, and this is where the game loses the perfect score. Still, it's head and shoulders above the competition. The best racing game there is currently.

The soundtrack is brilliant and I have to disagree with GI with the "crap jazz" comment they always make in racing games. Jazz is a wonderful genre as is the bossanova for these types of games. And personally if they aren't able to appreciate the artistic approach to the game just don't comment on it. It makes you look like fools when it comes to this. But that's just me and I just had to mention that out. No offense though. You guys still are my favorite review site.

With all the new things from Go Karts to NASCAR (which change the formula greatly, for the best) there is just so much to do that you won't ever get bored.

Best racer of 2010. Period.

Blog Post: GT5

This game is great the graphics are amazing. and the inside of the cars are beautiful. i just dont like the music they have available in this game so i mostly ignore but what you can do is you can get on your ps3 and listen to that while your racing i havent figured out if you can do that while your racing but you might be able to.

Forum Post: Re: Gran Turismo v. The list of cars is amazing, with over 1000 to choose from, and the real life courses is one of my favorite parts of the game. I like the addition of Nascar, and Kart racing, but could do without trying to race against a bunch of VW buses..that part was super lame. Also the load time can be a bit annoying but if you download it all to your hard drive, it cuts some of the time down...believe me this is worth doing. All in all this is a great game, and the best from the Gran Tourismo series, by far in my opinion. The addition of the GT Driving Academy was great and I thought that the B-spec races was a good add-on that can shake things up a little for you. That is if you wanna hand over racing yourself. For the avid racing fan, this one is definitely worth adding to your collection.

Blog Post: gdddf

Fabulous surprise. Was it worth the wait? The short answer is yes. At first glance Gran Turismo 5 is a beautiful racing game with enough cars and courses to keep the diehard fans and car enthusiasts chomping at the bit for months to come.

The series main attraction returns yet again with GT Mode in which you buy cars, tune them to your liking, and race your way through the ranks. There are 5 main A-Spec series all the way from Beginner to Expert, each with their own specific races and championship series. One series may be an open car choice where you can choose whatever car you want, while another may ask for certain cars only such as a truck or a rear engine car. These different requirements add a nice variety to the races, even if it is difficult at times to find a car you can use for each one. However, virtually nothing is changed in this mode from the previous installations in this franchise and as a fan of this series, that is disappointing.

B-Spec mode finally makes its debut in GT5 and it provides a nice touch to this franchise. Your driver levels up by completing races just like in A-Spec mode, the only difference is the A.I. driver isn’t limited in what cars they can drive by their level. You play the role of team director and hand out orders and your options are simply slow down, maintain current speed, speed up, and overtake. This may seem too simple but it becomes very clear right away that you can’t just tell your driver to speed up and walk away from the screen. A.I. drivers become flustered if pushed too hard and will drive into walls, spin out, overshoot corners, and fall back in the field. This mode seems like it has great potential but needs some tweaking, but all in all it is a good debut.

Online races are available just as they were in GT5 Prologue and they are exactly what you expect. The host chooses what cars are limited to each race and every entrant chooses from those cars whether they own them or not. You can also trade cars online and create tracks to share with others.

The vast amount of cars available is astounding, both new and used. The detail that went into each car is breathtaking to say the least. The game is just downright gorgeous, all the way from the cars to the environments. I was literally speechless the first time I raced on a snow track. It is very clear what Polyphony was working on when they kept delaying this game over the years, especially when you take a car into the photo mode. You choose a car, a location, and situation the car however you want for a photo. The sheer detail that went into each locale and car is downright jaw dropping.

The game itself is to say the least the best driving simulator you can get on a console. However, as a fan of the series since the first Gran Turismo on the original Playstation, I have to say that I was disappointed that the A-Spec modes have been almost unchanged since those days. I would have loved to see more championships instead of the same ones we have been getting over the years. With the addition of NASCAR cars, it would have been nice to have a NASCAR season mode even if it were only a few tracks repeated over again. I would have also loved to see some more F1 cars besides just the Ferrari.

I guess if it’s not broke don’t fix it, but some change would have nice. My advice would be if you’ve played and loved the Gran Turismo games before, you’ll like this one as well, especially the online racings. If you are new to this franchise, pick this up at all costs. At the heart of it, this game is a great racing simulator, but the formula is starting to show its age. First off, i would like to say that I have played every core Gran Turismo made, and have always been awe-inspired by the shear amount of cars and race types, but Gran Turismo 5 is the first one that I though to myself, "Am I playing the right game, or did someone just mistakenly put the Gran Turismo 5 logo on Gran Turismo 4?" While the game pushes the boundaries on graphics again, and they look amazing, this game just feels like a remade, next gen version of Gran Turismo 4 with more cars. I was expecting a game that would blow minds like it's brethren before, but it just feels like something we've already seen before.

First, I would like to talk about content and cars. While the car models have come a long way since the last game, every car, minus the premium and new model cars, is just recycled from 4, and have basically just been redone with better graphics. This takes away from something that the series has done since the beginning, bringing out the most sought after and up-to-date cars on the market, and not reusing the same exact cars from the previous installment, and just making them flashier. Another thing that bugs me is the fact that only about 20% of the cars have insane detail and interior views, while the other 80% are just your basic car with very little frills. The inclusion of NASCAR, the WRC , Super GT, Special Events, weather, and night cycles are the best things they added, because it adds a level of variety that breaks the monotony that the series usually has. The other thing that I am happy for is the updated car handling, since the cars now handle much better and aren't spinning into walls constantly. While these are welcome features, they can't make up for the lack of any new content. The A-spec mode is what it has been for years, you beat races or championships, you get a prize car, and you move on to the next one.

Second, the AI, and license tests. As usual, the AI are a big part of the experience obviously, but once again, the AI are the biggest problem. They are nothing more than drones that stick to their paths no matter what, I've lost count of how many time's i've been sent into a spinning frenzy because an opponent has PIT maneuvered me or ran me off the road. This makes racing on narrow courses a nightmare because the AI will stick to their path and run you off the road in a heartbeat if you're not paying attention. The License test another area that could use a little polish, while it's a fun mode to play to test your skills, the times to gain gold ratings are almost unbeatable, and even the cars in the demonstration video are scoring just shy of the time, which defeats the purpose of even including them.

And third, the ranking system. While its a cool feature that rewards you with prizes, it pretty much limits you on what you can do. If you have the credits in your account, you should be able to buy whatever car you want, not just what your current level lets you buy. Same goes with events, it's sucks that you have to be a certain rank to compete, even if you meet the requirements elsewhere. This is what defeats the experience for me a little, because I'll have money, and I find a really rare car that I want, but I can't purchase it because my rank is too low, so i'm SOL until it reappears way down the line. This system is good on paper, but in essence it pretty much means that until you hit rank 10 or above, there's not many cars that are really worth buying, especially in terms of purpose built race cars, since most of those are 14 and higher.

While Gran Turismo is considered the king of sim racers, it's starting to show it's age. While the features work like they should for the most part, some of the game is flawed or unpolished, or just has insanely difficult requirements for completion, mainly in the license tests. To me, this game doesn't show what the Gran Turismo name is capable of, and just shows some flashier graphics draped over recycled content from the previous installment. One would hope that Kazunori Yamauchi will realize this and will support the game with some much needed DLC to spice up the experience with more new cars that aren't featured in the game, but from the sound of things, it's a slim shot, since he has shown a distaste for supporting the game after launch other than with updates, so we'll see what happens. I still think it's a good game, but to me it doesn't feel like 5-6 years of work, nor does it feel that it needed so many delays.

Blog Post: where is the Lamborghini Diablo?

this game is phenomenal. i only have 2 problems with it, the exp level versus cash when it comes to buyin vehicles and the fact that if there is a Lamborghini Diablo i havent seen it (having waited so long for GT to incorporate Lamborghinis but still no Diablo which is easily the supreme driving machine on the planet). but the game is great anyone who like the previous GTs will love this one

Blog Post: Sensational.

Wow, how should I begin? I guess I'll start by saying that the game looks and sounds great, you have a 1080p set with some good surround sound then be prepared for some sensory overload. Oh, 3D is a plus provided you have a new TV.

Most of you that are familiar with the Gran Turismo series are going to love this installment as the core principals remain though improved upon and a large amount of new features. But the most important thing for me is how the cars handle and they do handle just as they should and do in real life. I am also loving the head tracking as it is much easier to check your mirrors.

This is buy far the Realest Driving Game to come out this gen.

Sensational

Blog Post: The Best Racing Game Ever

What can I say? It's Gran Turismo at it's finest.

Blog Post: Boring wannabe...

I was excited to get in and play this game but after all the installs and anticipation I was let down by the game play. Cars spin out at a simple tap of the joystick, and the sound effects are terrible, depending on your view they always change but even if you play like I do, bumper view, the lack of collision sounds and engine/road noise is terribly lacking. Music choice is too low key and non inspiring. AI are slow and uneventful with a tiresome "with out a chance" easy at any level. Options for initial cars suck unless you play arcade which is the best way to play this game in my opinion. connecting to servers and getting into online matches take for ever and most of the time drop out.

All in all this game is poorly made with tons of flaws. Flashy videos and cool cinematics don't make up for any of it.

3.5 out of 10

GT3 will always be the best in the series but I'm going to have to go with Forza Motor Sport 3 as the dominant still in the pro racing series.
