Epic design director Cliff Bleszinski was joined onstage by rapper/gamer/Twitter hero Ice-T to demo a brief segment of Gears of War 3 at Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference.

The live gameplay demo had series protagonist Marcus Fenix joined by the rest of Delta squad in a battle against a giant sea monster. The COGs fought the beast from the deck of the ship they've been exiled to after the fall of Jacinto.

Delta enlists the help of a Silverback armored combat suit that Dom hops into. This impressive piece of hardware is less mobile than the surprisingly spry soldiers themselves, but projectiles richochet harmlessly off of its gleaming armor plates as it sprays death from its impressive weaponry.

Having stunned the monster by shooting out its giant glowing eye (a disgusting event in itself), Delta manages to drop a crate of what appeared to be some kind of Lambent organic explosives on the leviathan. A falling tentacle cuts Cole and Baird off from Marcus and Dom as the squad flees from the monster's death throes.

The Gears 3 demo sure did look like more Gears. The surprise announcement of Ice-T reuniting his rock band Body Count to record a theme song for the game's Horde mode, though, is inspiring. I'm not afraid to go on record saying that I'm a lot more pumped for that than another embarrassing Cole Train rap.
