The Firepower Of Fuse

Fuse was already announced as Overstrike last year and was recently teased at PAX, but today developer Insomniac officially announced the title and revealed some new screens for the game.

Fuse is based around the 4-player co-op of the Overstrike 9 team. The special forces unit is called in by the CIA to stop a group known as Raven from stealing a powerful alien energy called Fuse which powers the game's weapons.

Players can combine their weapons and abilities for maximum firepower (you can also switch between party members at will in single-player), and upgrade them by earning and spending Fuse points.

For more on the game, take a look at this teaser talking about the game's characters.

Fuse is scheduled to come out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March.

  • The weapons, especially the shield thing, look to be heavily influenced by their work on the Resistance games.

  • Show me some gameplay. The concept seems pretty cliche, but that may just be part of EA's influence.

  • I liked this when it was Overstrike. Now it just seems like a cookie cutter shooter. I'll pass
  • Hmmm....

So, like, ALL the style from Overstrike is now gone? That blows. Thanks a lot fellow gamers - you "vote with your dollars" as they say. And now you've sent the message of, "We only care about 'realistic looking' games (that will look instantly dated in a few months). We hate style and color and generally timeless visuals with more personality". That sucks that Insomniac changed this to "reach a broader audience". Was that EA's decision? Or did Insomniac do this to appease the Xbox audience? Eff that.

You just know if Insomniac were still a Sony exclusive developer, they would've been able to keep it as Overstrike and it would've sold great. Gamers on PS3 don't have a problem with style.

I'm sure the game will still play well though. It just looks like a million other games now. *sigh* Overstrike looked better.

At least there are mech suits.
  • This change is pretty much opposite to the Borderlands change, which is the kind of change i love to see. This is dissapointing..
  • I hate it when other news gets in the way of Borderlands 2.

  • Seems plain, especially for Insomniac.

  • Looks cool, I like Insomniac, although the colors do give it a more generic feel... I don't mind a realistic look, so as long as it plays well, I'll pick it up.

  • It is so unfortunate that this has been redesigned. The feel and personality of the original teaser trailer was brilliant, as Insomniac do humour, charm and creativity incredibly well, and this more military feel just doesn't do that essence justice. If there is still a humourous personality at Fuse's core, then this tonal direction will likely feel out of place, and looking like this, the game has no distinction from the army of military shooters on the market. Insomniac is undoubtedly a great developer though, and their incredibly serious Resistance 3 was executed brilliantly, so its still a must buy, but I personally wish they didn't do this reverse-Borderlands act.
  • I think it's great how shooters continue to try to be rpgs, However I'm sure this will be mediocare.

  • Looks preety cool.

  • This looks pretty god damn fun...
