When Epic Games first envisioned Fortnite, it was a realistic, terrifying experience. Throughout development, the art style changed to match the more playful action elements.

In a new video featuring art director Pete Ellis, we get a chance to see how one enemy type evolved from concept to implementation. The Husk still bears the original look of the skull ejecting from the mouth, but it now has a goofier look.

There are multiple types of these creatures, with some pelting players with baseballs and others lumbering around waiting to detonate propane tanks. You can read more about Fortnite in our coverage from the May 2014 issue. For a deeper dive into the creation of the different Husk types, check out our feature on Fortnite’s enemies
