If you want to beat Halo, you have to learn to use all the weapons efficiently to survive. If you want to make it past the first level of Bioshock, you have to search every nook and cranny for ammunition, money, and first aid kits. Every video game has the element of survival in it even if we don't realize it. Then comes along Fallout 3, which slaps you in the face with the harsh, bitter reality of what survival truly is.

You start off in Vault 101, an underground vault where you and your dad both grew up. As you make your character (in what I would call a very shallow character creator) you start as a baby, grow to a teenager, slowly forming all your skills, perks and attributes, and eventually become an adult. Which, unfortunately, is when your dad decides to up and leave the vault for no apparent reason. Naturally, you hastily follow him out into the harsh Capital Wasteland that was Washington DC. From the first step into the Wasteland, to the end of your adventure, it's now a game of survival.

Resources are scarce, and most things you find in the Wasteland are irradiated giving you radiation points upon consumption. In the beginning taking on some "Rads" is worth it just for some health. You'll find yourself drinking irradiated river water, eating meat off a dead animal you found, or scraping together enough caps (currency) to be able to buy a stimpack in town. You'll feel hopeless, alone, and desperate. Not to mention the enemies you'll encounter on your treks through the Wasteland will make you want to run back to your bed in the vault and hide under your covers. Ghouls that absorb radiation, Super Mutants wielding Chain Guns, giant radiation infused scorpions, the list goes on. If ammunition wasn't scarce enough, enemies will soak up your bullets like a sponge, water. This is where the super-handy V.A.T.S comes in. With the press of a button V.A.T.S will stop time completely and let you target an opponent's body parts so you can cripple limbs or blow up heads. Not only is this effective to take down quick and powerful opponents, it also saves you ammunition with it's accuracy. You'll find yourself using V.A.T.S a majority of the time, because the aiming system is a little sloppy and you'll find yourself missing a lot until you get the hang of it.

The first time you talk to someone you'll realize that you're playing a Bethesda game. Though this time around they got a lot more variety in their voice-acting, and the dialogue is well-scripted. However, the acting is still like watching cardboard talk and you won't find yourself getting attached to any of the characters. The soundtrack isn't much to talk about either, but the occasional radio will throw out a catchy tune. There are however some glitches in the textures, and sometimes you can see a gun sticking through a wall, but nothing to mar gameplay.

You would think it would be a difficult task to put Fallout and Oblivion together and come out with a hit, but Bethesda did it with ease. With solid RPG and FPS elements and a satisfying plot, I say Fallout 3 is definitely worth surviving until the end. Especially if you want to fight alongside a communism neutralizing, liberty spreading, giant robot with a bomb dispenser on it's back.

At first a Fallout fan would think, "Wow did Bethesda just buy this? I think they are going to milk the hell out of Fallout..." and some people still believe that is true. I'm undecided because I don't really care. Bethesda makes one hell of any game ever and they did not disappoint me with this one.

Seeing the Pipboy back was a good thing and their adaptation of making V.A.T.S. was great!!! I was worried that it wouldn't see the light of day in Fallout 3 at first. Bethesda, whether they are milking this game or not, at least did their research and put real time into this game. Seeing things like Harold from the older Fallout games, wait what?!?! the tree on your head grew Harold?!? I was overly happy to see such a reference to the older games, to me it seems like Bethesda cares about this game.

The negative sides of this game are so miniscule that it's almost worth skipping. The aiming without VATS really sucked... I also didn't enjoy too much of the metro system, I like the DC area but the travel through the metros reminded me of a game before Fallout 3... Oblivion, I love that game but how could anyone enjoy going through the same dungeon 50 times? no one? alright let's just make 50 dungeons that are nearly identical, that's not the same, right?
well Fallout 3's "dungeons" were overlooked because they weren't so necessary but the metros did get a monotonous and tiresome.

The DLC was amazing as well as the core game. Showing us about the 4th or 5th hardest thing Bethesda ever released for RPGs with Broken Steel. The Pitt, Operation Anchorage, and Point Lookout were amazing as well, and Point Lookout stands above all of them. But one that didn't really pull me in was Mothership Zeta, it wasn't the best and it was a bit "stupid" and difficult at times. But it wasn't bad.

Fallout 3, definitely a 98%
worth your money and your 100+ hours.

Favorite Game of this Console Generation

When I first heard the news of Fallout 3, as someone who loved Black Isle Studios and the first two fallouts; I was kind of nervous. I didn't know what to expect when Bethesda said they were bringing the game back; I was nervous and excited at the worst. I expected the worst but I got one of the most memorable gaming experiences in my entire life.

Story: 9.5/10

The story starts you in the cycle of your whole childhood from an infant to a teenager as you escape your home, Vault 101 in search of your father. One of the things that turned off many people from the game was the extremely slow start... and I completely agree with them. The main storyline starts off extremely slow but once you enter the wasteland everything gets more exciting. Overall the main story isn't Fallout 3's strong suit as the side missions are much more enjoyable but it is a solid story from beginning to end.

Atmosphere: 10/10

One word can describe the Capital Wasteland for me: beautiful. While technically there are better looking games, the whole vibe of the world oozes of suffering, depression and fear which all post-apocalyptic worlds should have. The destruction and erosion of everything is well done, the dead trees, vast empty wasteland, horrifying metros and everything in between make this the best post-apocalyptic world to date.

Sound: 9.25/10

The overall sound of the game is a hit or miss for me. From a character perspective all of them showed no emotion. They didn't evoke any natural feelings and were simply wooden. The 1950's style music certainly livens things up and the scary sounds emitting from a deathclaw are certain to cause you to jump.

Gameplay: 9/10

The shooting mechanics of this game are not good. No iron sights causes you to aimlessly shoot at enemies hoping to hit them. The reason though I rate the gameplay a 9/10 is VATS mode. VATS mode is one of the most rewarding things to have when your facing a group of super mutants or raiders.

Replayibility: 10/10

The numerous story branches Fallout 3 offers will want you to keep coming back to play this game. Scavenging and searching the wasteland on its own warrants you to give this game a couple playthrough. I've beaten Fallout 3 three times one with good karma, one with bad karma, the last morally gray. Trying out different karma levels will open up so much more for you and will give more and more reason to play this game.

Verdict:

+ Excellent Atmosphere

+Excellent Player Choice

+ Vast Wasteland

+ VATS Mode

- Extremely Boring Beginning

- Some Annoying Bugs/Technical Glitches

9.75/10

good game good game fallout 3

its a good game i just started playing it this year even though its from 2008 i was so into the game that i beat it first with evil karma then i started agian and beat it with good karma lev 20 on each.

The First and Only Game to Give Me an Orgasm.

What can i say about Fallout 3? It felt so amazing to get lost in the world of Fallout. The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and Perk system worked like it was intended, and the V.A.T.S. system was a welcome addition to combat. Overall, the control scheme was easy to learn and quite fluid. The soundtrack was subtle enough to not be annoying, and the presence of radio stations was interesting. The exploration was amazingly vast, with 150+ locations to discover and explore. To be completely honest, I played this game for a total of 68 hours, then lost my save file through a mistake of my own. I restarted, and I am currently at 79 hours of gameplay time. This game has taken 147+ hours from me, and thanks to the quality of the gameplay experience, I still play this game and have a blast doing so. My only complaints are the occasional glitch (use autosave often) and occasional framerate slowdown, which may result in the game freezing. This is negligible, mostly because of me keeping 3 save files in addition to an autosave but also because the game was so incredible that I felt the need to jump right back in. Best money you'll spend on a game, and it is possibly THE best game I have ever played.

The Zombiegamers Fallout 3

Fallout had my mind capture and held in a deadly headlock long after the credits rolled and then the DLC came and further pinned my mind into the amazing world. The game has so many weapons i dont care to name them all with different fire rates, damages, and condition. Thats another great game mechanic the condition of your weapon changes its amout of damage and also weapon can break and render themselves yousless. The game features more outfits than weapon that are almost all great. The campanion system sucks. Fallout 3 is a game whose jaw-dropping storyline and emotionally impacting choices are enough to keep gamers glued to their seat, with literally hundreds of hours of fresh and challenging quests at their disposal.

Late is better than not showing up at all, right?

Before venturing out into the wasteland, the game provides you with a robust and unique way of creating your character. You begin the customization at the ripe age of 1, and progressively customize your traits and specialties right up to adulthood. Fortunately for those of you tired of the usual, tutorials and customization have a unique presentation. When learning how to move, your character is actually learning how to walk. When crafting your strengths and weaknesses, your character is taking a required aptitude test for teenagers. After deciding whether you want to focus your skills on the art of persuasion or the art of breaking skulls, you leave the comfort of Vault 101 behind to pursue your dad who recently left for some (at the time) unknown reasons.

Stepping out of Vault 101, the game presents easily one of the most stunning visuals I have experienced. The first rays of sunshine hit my pale skin, remains of a once flourishing environment lay in their irradiated beauty, and while exploring I can't decide whether to stare at everything in awe, or be wary of what may lurk in the distance. The environmental graphics are top notch and help to immerse you into the Fallout universe early, but after the initial aesthetic pleasantry, an overwhelming sense over desperation sinks in. Early in the game, ammo is scarce and enemies are abundant and unforgiving. The game is as a result very challenging and even had me lower the difficulty. This was a last resort though, because I usually appreciated the challenge. It wasn't cumbersome to die and start a mission over because the difficulty is another aspect of the game that makes you feel like what the developers intended at this stage of the game, helpless.

Fallout doesn't waste time when it comes to choice, and unlike other games, it doesn't feature a strictly evil or angelic path. Within the first hour of gameplay, the fate of an entire city was in my control, (I chose to nuke the filthy town and its inhabitants before my morals persuaded me otherwise.) You can choose to save a town from nuclear demise early and place a live grenade in someone's pocket not long after, but these decisions never come without consequence. Despite my initial plans to be as sinister of a villain as I could, I quickly gave into the game's emotional impact. Nearly all decisions you make have an outcome that tends to make you feel regret for what you've done. The beauty is that you never know which of the multiple decisions will produce a positive or negative outcome, usually resulting in a choice based on one's personal morals or a disposition towards a fellow character.

Flawlessly written dialogue and an immersive story are only hindered by robotic character animation and annoying (though minor) glitches. It was disappointing after a climax in the story to have an AI character run through a wall, fellow AI, etc. I also had a problem with the combat system, initially. The FPS mechanics are poor and the melee combat is nearly impossible to use against the quick and concise enemies. You would think that a post-apocalyptic RPG would be doomed by these problems, but the innovative VATS system wiped all previous qualms from memory. VATS mode stops time and allows you to attack a specific body part with deadly efficiency. A percentage is given to measure your chance of hitting a specific body part and action points are allocated for use, adding more strategy to how you go about combat. This system gives wasteland wanderers a sizeable advantage over their target of choice.

Fallout 3 is progressively emotional and dramatic in regards to both its story and scale. The minor problems I pointed out didn't make my time in the Capital Wasteland any less memorable and with the help of unforgettable moments such as Tranquility Lane or the beautiful first steps outside of Vault 101, this post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. is one that fans can get lost in for hundreds of hours.

Setting the world on fire never felt so good:Fallout 3 review

This game gripped me from beginning to end because the story kept me on and each mission was unique and never got me bored. Everything is flawless and the animations are perfect. Fallout 3 is an unbelievable experience and deserves everyone's time and money.

Story: The story line of Fallout 3 is excellent. Every detail of you figuring out what is in the wasteland and why your dad suddenly left the vault is perfect. As you venture through the Capital Wasteland looking for clues of your dad, you meet new characters. The characters you meet all have their own feelings and you really understand them. You understand their personality and they all have a story of what they do. The story takes some turns and twists, but all comes together in the end.

Customization: The character customization offers many different paths you can go. It is widely spread around offers any way you may wish to go. Every level up you get, you earn skill points that can be out into any of several categories. It really pays off to go out off your way and find enemies or do side quests to earn enough experience.

Combat: For anyone who thinks that Fallout 3 is a strict shooter game, is very mistaken. Fallout is actually a kind of poor shooter. Combat heavily relies on V.A.T.S.. V.A.T.S. allows you to target what body part of the enemy you will shoot for. If you wanted to shoot the leg off the rabid dog or the arm off the raider, V.A.T.S. allows this to happen.

Length: Fallout 3 is an extremely long game. Anyone could easily play for 100+ hours on this game. With all of the side missions that are offered to go along with the main story line. Also, I advise that you purchase the add-ons for this game. All of the add-ons are great and offer unique weapons. I suggest Point Lookout if you want a great add-on that lasts a long time and can be re-visited.

Graphics: The graphics in Fallout are simply jaw-dropping. Everything from the landscape to the player models to the inside of the vaults feel real. The graphics could arguably be the best on the 360, especially since Fallout has been out for several years now.

Enemies: The enemies you encounter are a great change of pace compared to other games. The mutants that you find heavily near the Washington Monument and very closely to the Lincoln Memorial, can offer a challenge. Probably the biggest challenge of an enemy is the Super Mutant Behemoth. These guys are huge, but luckily are spread out and you rarely encounter them.

Well, Fallout 3 is a text based adventure, hardcore action, futuristic, nostalgic, open world, mecca of endless enjoyment that will keep you gripping the controller well into the night. I will never love a game as much as I love Fallout 3, the V.A.T.S. system is one of the best innovations in gaming history. You'll never be bored because there are dozens of weapons, clothing, people, enemies, and choices to make, there are also well over 100 locations. The several main quests and side quests will give you at least 100 hours of entertainment. One of the best things in Fallout 3 is that it is your game, play it the way you want to play it! If you want to be good, don't steal, kill, or call your best friend fat. OR, you could be evil, (insert dastardly laugh here,) kill whoever you want, steal, help a sad, pathetic man commit suicide, or poison the wasteland water and kill almost everyone in the game. That was just the Karma system, you could make your character, man or woman, look however you want him/her to look like, change your clothes, get a follower of your choice, blow up a small town, or save it from a horrible end. You choose.
