Evolve is out in just under a month, which means it’s time to unveil the DLC monster that’s been teased for ages. We’ve known that pre-orders come with the first DLC beast, but now we actually know what that is. Enter: The Behemoth.

The Behemoth is an enormous, boulder-like creature that can roll itself into a ball and mow down enemies. We had a chance to chat with Turtle Rock about what makes him different than the fire-spewing Goliath.

“Behemoth is a tank of a Monster that becomes a giant, destructive boulder and rolls through the environment for quick traversal,” Turtle Rock’s Chris Ashton tells us. “He has the most armor, the largest pool of health, and packs the biggest punch of any Monster in Evolve, making Behemoth extremely dangerous in close quarters.”

To balance that power, Behemoth is slower than the other three creatures. He’s more than a melee bruiser, though. The lava bomb ability shatter when they hit the ground and continue to scorch the ground.

Tongue grab allows Behemoth to pick off a hunter and pull him or her in for a beating. For group attacks, fissure stuns and scalds in an area.

Finally, rock wall gives Behemoth some breathing room with a circular barrier. It can also be used to trap a hunter with him for a little ”special attention.”

Playing as Behemoth means unlearning some of the things that work well with the other three monsters. “For example, I climb everything as the other monsters,” Ahston tells us. “I tend to stay up high where I can see more, and leap or fly long distances. But Behemoth rolls. Climbing on top of things really doesn't benefit him. In fact, it slows him down significantly. Behemoth needs to stay on the low ground, in places where long, unbroken paths can be found.”

Turtle Rock expects that hunters will adjust slowly to monsters as they are unlocked or introduced via DLC. Data from the Alpha bears out that suspicion.

“On the first day that a lot of Krakens were in the mix, they had something like a 75% win ratio, but as the weekend came to a close the Hunters were making adjustments, and they were starting to pull back their win ratio,” Ashton explains. “Looking at the telemetry trends, if the Big Alpha had continued for a few more days, we think the Hunters would have began to match the Kraken's win ratio. It was fascinating to watch.”
