Escape Dead Island Drops Wanton Slaughter For Third-Person Survival

Have you ever wondered how all those lovely beach-goers on the island of Banoi came to be a little less alive in Dead Island? Deep Silver is planning on finally answering that question in a new, single-player adventure spin-off called Escape Dead Island.

The story puts players in the expensive shoes of rich kid Cliff Calo, who steals a yacht with his friends to try and uncover the mystery of the Banoi tragedy. As his journey continues, Cliff will have to sneak past the undead and confront his own mental state.

The aesthetic borrows from comic books, and also weaves in some reality-bending elements that keep players on their toes. The title will be out this fall on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Escape Dead Island is a bridge story that leads into Dead Island 2. That title is under development for new-gen consoles and PC and planned for release in 2015. For more, you can read up on our E3 coverage.

  • Huh. I'm surprised how far they're going to make this a franchise. I hear that the first game was good, but Riptide was mediocre. An odd choice to base an MOBA, spiritual successor, adventure game, and numbered sequel to.
  • It looks more interesting than Dead "more of the same" Island 2.
  • Dying Light is the only big zombie game people should be paying attention to. Too bad it got delayed to February.
  • Looks weird. I like weird.

  • This looks cool as hell

  • I loved the original and the IP has a ton of potential, it's in really good hands with Yager. This looks pretty cool, I like the comic book style graphics but they could have made them a bit sharper.

  • Ugh...more zombies. I must be the only goddam person on the planet who is sick of zombie games, TV shows, movies, books, drink cozies, lunchboxes, T-shirts, and so on, and so forth...

    Though this does look interesting...

  • Literally looks like an early PS2 game. Gonna stay far away from this junk.
  • Why is this series getting so many spin offs? It's not like the game's universe was interesting or unique enough to do so.
  • PS3 only? please tell me it's coming to PC... Riptide ran pretty bad on PS3 to the point where I couldn't continue. I ended up picking it up during steam sale and it was much much better.
  • The game was trash. The first one had a slightly fresh concept that went old real quick. Also killing zombies sort of lost its charm especially with devs over using the concept. But then I take a look at games like Dark Souls that is also now getting stretched thin. People who like monotony will play this. Others looking something different will keep looking.
  • I wonder why it won't be on Xbox One and PS4. It just seems backwards to me, making a last-gen exclusive.

  • I wish this was coming to the Vita; IMO, it would have made more sense.

  • Did anyone else notice that carpet design from The Shining? I wonder what other obscure easter eggs will be thrown in
  • I feel like they honestly have no idea what to do with Dead Island and are just taking it in every single direction possible with the hopes that people will change their minds about it.

  • NO,I'm also done with Zombies. I've never watched Walking Dead, or got into any zombie themed game. it's just to much overkill on one archetype. I use to Vampires, and zombies, and such, but thats been ruined by two of my greatest loves, movies, and video games.

  • It went from vampires to zombies, what's the next thing big, werewolves!
  • Looks interesting. Needs more Xian Mei.
