At this year’s E3, I got a chance to smash into other racer in Driver’s new multiplayer tag mode.

In Tag, up to eight players can chase each other across San Francisco’s rollercoaster roads. One person starts out as a tagged player, effectively becoming the marked target that everyone else tries to swap paint with. Once a player “tags” another driver, they become the new mark. If a mark gets too far out of reach, you can immediately shift over to another car further down the block. Swapping cars is as easy as it is in the single player game. Marks will be stuck in their car, but everyone else can shift their perspective to an overhead view of the city and follow the mark’s movements on a GPS-style map. Once you find a faster car that is closer to the mark, the touch of a button will send you into the driver seat and you’ll be that much closer to your target. While Tag mode is the only new mode that Ubisoft showed off at E3, it is only one of 11 new modes that will be in the final game when it comes out on August 30.
