Yes, the 3DS will be backwards compatible with all DS and DSi games.

I am really looking forward to this. Dragon Quest VIII was better than anything Square has released in a long time. I may wait till the 3DS comes out tho. Does anybody know if the 3DS will play old DS games?

that's too bad, because the Dragon Quest series laid the foundation for Final Fantasy games. They revolutionized role playing games when they were first released. You are seriously missing out

I CANNOT wait unti this game comes to the US. My DS is collecting dust having played all the RPG's their are to play on this system. I can't wait until this and DQ VI comes out.
