History Of The Elves Explored In New Screens

The latest batch of screenshots focuses strongly on the environments players can look forward to when Dragon Age: Inquisition releases on October 7th. In particular, these new screens show off two distinct environments central to the history of the elves in Thedas.

The more lush of the two locations is the Emerald Graves. "The Emerald Graves are a mix of the old elven burial ground and a noble, Orlesian playground," says senior environment artist Andrew Farrell in a post on the Dragon Age: Inquisition website. "You've got the lower section of the forest, which is a bit more civilized with road signs and abandoned Orlesian estates, and then as you get higher up, you come to the ancient elven areas." Elves no longer fill the paths of the forest, which is instead populated by wild beasts like bears, wolves, and other more exotic creatures. The area’s many caves also hide some “gigantic” enemies that might pose a serious threat to the party, particularly if confronted early on in the game.

The stony and snowy Emprise du Lion location is a stark contrast to the forests of the Emerald Graves, but it also holds roots to the history of the elven people. It’s scattered with elven ruins, including an impressive stronghold that will no doubt figure into the storyline that the player encounters in the area. “The red templars are up to something, and the Inquisition comes in to check it out," Farrell says "When you arrive, there's an area for you to explore, but if you want to get to the heart of what's happening, you're going to have to push through an army."

  • Never played the first one but this game does seem interesting maybe ill give it a shot.
  • I sure hope this lives up to the hype, I am definitely looking forward to playing it.

  • OHHHHHH YESSSSSSSS. I LIKE WHAT I SEE.

  • I don't believe I ever played the previous games but I'm a big Mass Effect fan and will be picking this up day one.
  • The screens look great, it's shaping up beautifully. So bloody excited. Going to go jump in the freezer now.

  • I didn't like DA1 so I never played DA2, but, this does look good. Only problem is that it comes out on such a crowded day. I am still interested however.
  • See, it is games like this that make my claims of not buying another EA published after Dead Space 3 almost next to impossible (I am currently digging at Amazon and my local GameStops for Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition, planing to play either as a male human or male city elf).

  • Holy ***, this game is beautiful. I'm going to have to play the first few now

  • October 7th is gonna be a good day.

  • will I be able to play this having not played any dragon age games before?
  • This title is so impressive, as a huge fan of Origins and a semi fan of DA:2 this is my GOTY and I'll be playing it first over Mordor and Isolation which was a super hard choice. To make up for it, I will be a glutten and buy all at once just to know I have them!

  • Yeah I'm thinking about getting Origins at some point, just so I can know some of the Dragon Age lore. Probably won't be getting Inquistion till next year since the Pokemon remakes are coming out this year and I'll be spending a lot of time on that.

  • Replaying through Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II in order to get as perfect save as possible to transfer to Inquisition.
  • Certainly looks better than the utter trash that was DA2.

  • Looks stunning. I'm sure my PC can't handle this, so the release would be my time to get a Playstation 4 ;) Hope i can catch up on PS3 games with Playstation Now, as i never got one, but i absolutely loved God of War 1-2, so i really wanna play 3 and ascension :)

  • Even if this game ends up sucking, you can walk around and enjoy the beautiful sights.
  • Can't wait for this game to come out.

  • Man this game looks great. I have high expectations for this game as I'm a big fan of the Dragon Age franchise.

    Can't wait!

  • I really hope this game is great. Dragon Age 2 was just a let down if you ask me. I don't know how a Bioware team could get so lazy with a game.

  • I am so psyched for this. The screenshots are gorgeous, and the tidbits of lore are highly intriguing. Can't wait for October 7th! Now all that's left is to decide whether or not I want to spring for the collector's edition.
