Behind The Scenes Of Dragon Age: Inquisition

We've been covering Dragon Age: Inquisition all month long since our cover story (see the banner hub below for more), and today BioWare and Electronic Arts showcased the game at the publisher's Gamescom 2013 press conference with a new trailer.

The developer diary features various members of the dev team talking about different facets of the game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition comes out next fall for the current- and next-gen systems.

  • Looks awesome so far.
  • Can't wait for this game!

  • So, Morrigan is part of the court in Orlais correct?
  • Awesome, I just started replaying Dragon Age: Origins and DA2 after all the hub coverage I've been reading here. Unfortunately, going to have to put those on hold since SPlinter Cell and X-Com came out today!

  • This game is getting a major facelift from the last two games. Looks great!

  • Who wants to start speculating what's going to be apart of a $150 collectors edition bundle?
  • omg those graphics are incredible

  • Sounds like every other developer diary I've watched. Still the visuals for this game are stunning.

  • Gonna have some pretty cool dragons to kill in 2014. Dragon age-dragon, Deep Down-dragon, Dark Souls 2 (probably the meanest)-dragon. It's 2013 people, either have a sick looking dragon that can whoop the stuffing out of your character, or go home.
  • The graphics look fantastic compared to the previous installments.  But this diary was their usual promises that most of the time haven't been delivered (they said some of the same things for DA2 and ME3).  So, I'm remaining skeptical.  I don't want to be sucked back in only to be let down again.

  • Nice to see them show off the graphics a bit more here. Still, most of what they're saying is retreading old ground. Hopefully they'll release some real news soon. This game looks awesome.

  • I hope GI covers the open-world aspect of this game.

  • Give me gameplay.

  • This reminds me of the grand promises made when Fable 3 came out. be the king! be good or evil! Decide the fate of your world!

...But BioWare is a different company. I'll have to see how they do on this. BioWare is very capable, but they are often guilty of over hyping their games too much.

  • A few things:

Not digging the wide-as-*** look of the Quanari. DA2 did them better; make them slightly bigger than humans. Not the Krogans of the Dragon Age universe that Inquisition seems to be going for.

Nice to know that this game is spanning the entirety of Thedas. That's a huge step up from what I thought it was (just Orlais and bits of Ferelden or something).

Is there a Multiplayer portion that GI will cover? Did anyone at GI think to ask about this when they did the cover story?

Is Hawke just...not here anymore? I understand that Morrigan will probably be the in-game voice that details what happened to the Warden, but I've yet to hear anything about Hawke as far as Inquisition goes. Like, if I visited Kirkwall, would Hawke still be there? Or will he/she have taken a grand trip off the continent or died or something?

All in all, the game looks great. Can't wait to get my hands on it for next-gen.
  • as a consumer another year is going to be hard to wait for, but perhaps ill consider a next gen console by then. anyway im glad theyre not rushing like they did with two

  • I'm not going to lie, that video looked pretty damn awesome. I REALLY digging the art design and graphic quality of this game so far, it's above and beyond DA2's brown palette and minor cel shading at least. I'm ESPECIALLY liking the armor designs. They seem A LOT more varied and, IMO at least, pretty damn well designed. Hell, I even think I saw an Orlesian set of armor that was SUBTLE. AN ORLESIAN THING THAT'S SUBTLE. So Bioware definitely looks like they're taking a step in the right direction, as long as they can provide actual CHOICES in the story they'll have a good chance of me actually buying the game.
  • I hope the console version isn't missing the tactical view like it was in origins.

  • Why can't this game be released now !!! This is definitely gonna be one of my favourite games next year, :D love Bioware & Dragon Age !!
