Disney Infinity 3.0
Disney Infinity 3.0 is bringing plenty of Star Wars love and nostalgia for fans. The Rise Against The Empire play set captures memorable moments from the original Star Wars trilogy (episodes IV-VI), dropping you in an open world complete with space combat. You won't just be walking around as Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia; get ready to control some cool vehicles and fly through space.
While lightsaber combat is at the center of the Twilight of the Republic play set, fun battles that get you in the cockpit of different vehicles are a big part of Rise Against The Empire. You'll face off against stormtroopers on a speeder bike on Endor, control your X-wing to destroy the Death Star, and even get on foot to explore open-world planets like Tatoonie. Jabba the Hutt and other iconic characters will also be along for the ride to give you missions. Don't worry; you'll still engage in combat and tackle some stealth to get around the original Death Star interior, so you're not always strapped in. The set is an intense mix of racing, platforming, and space battles.
We tested out a level at a recent press event in Santa Monica where we had to eliminate AT-AT walkers while on Hoth. The AT-ATs are all equipped with batteries; you can platform to climb up each of their mechanical legs to toss out each battery, or you can try to destroy them while aboard a snowspeeder. The snowspeeder is the faster way to go, but also more challenging to control.
With your snowspeeder, you must launch your grappling hook and wrap it around their legs, circling around them a few times. Then, you must try to launch yourself out of the snowspeeder landing on top of the AT-AT walker to take it down. I found the platforming way easier, but the snowspeeder was definitely the more satisfying way to take these mechanical beasts down. Of course the real fun is just being in world that captures the beauty and marvel of the original trilogy. You never know what you'll run into next from the films and that's the real lure here. While my hands-on time was brief, I walked away thinking this set offers the most in terms of variety and will probably be the most talked about for its essence.
The Star Wars Rise Against The Empire play set comes with Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. You can purchase Darth Vader, Chewbacca, and Han Solo separately.
