Mansour

I remember very vividly when I had first heard about this Devil May Cry reboot. I was outraged. Capcom had taken the over-the-top "cool guy" persona they tried introducing with Jake "Wesker Jr." Muller in last year's Resident Evil 6 and threw it on our beloved Dante, along with a very trendy and not-white hairdo. Clearly the original Dante was just as bad, if not a bit worse, in that category than most characters in video game history. What I think made that Dante more acceptable though was that it was obviously a joke. The action was ludicrous and borderline laughable (okay, LITERALLY laughable) but it gave us a good sense that it wasn't taking itself seriously. First hinted at with the aforementioned Jake Muller, this series' reboot only confirms Capcom's sad attempts at genuinely making an edgy cool protagonist full of one liners and curse words. This entire game is essentially one gigantic pop culture reference. A trait that will make most things about it incredibly dated within a few short years. Everything except for the gameplay that is. All of my fears came true the first time I played this game. It's one of the funnest and most fulfilling action games of this generation.

Dante is now a demon/angel hybrid who is trying to save the world from a politically and supernaturally-powered demon king that looks suspiciously like Kurt Angle. He's also a prime example of "d--che bag", complete with drinking, partying and womanizing. There are some moments of greatness within the story, however. Whenever a high ranking demon is in the area, Dante is pulled into Limbo where all of the demons are visible (as they are usually possessing something in the real world without anyone's knowledge) and this acts as the game's setting. But the really interesting thing here is that all of the environmental damage that is dealt in Limbo is also present in the real world, causing the media to blame terrorists. Namely Dante. That simple but original idea really gave the game a creative edge. Unfortunately it takes a backseat through most of the story, leaving a great idea unresolved and ultimately making the game just shy of brilliant.

As for the actual gameplay, it takes the basics of the original Devil May Cry games (ie: huge, flashy combos) and loosens them up greatly, resulting in the most accessible DMC game to date. Pulling off long streams of combos is no longer reserved for hardcore DMC players. Although it's usually a bit rocky at first, there is an appropriate learning curve along with progressively more difficult enemies that will test your skills as well as your patience.

Although DMC does not have a ridiculous amount of weapons like the original series did, it does, however, allow players to switch between the handful of weapons obtained all at the press of a button. This enables an infinite amount of combo possibilities throughout. Its variety also limits falling back to an easy bread-and-butter combo or button mashing, giving the player real control over the action. This is what every action game should strive to do. At all times, Dante has a main weapon, an angelic weapon, a demonic weapon and his trusty guns. Each of these act very differently on their own but blend together perfectly. The angelic and demonic weapons also come equipped with a grappling system. Angelic for grappling towards enemies and demonic for grabbing enemies and bringing them to Dante. This feature makes air combos easier and more satisfying than ever.

Now for environments. Limbo looks fantastic. Floors crumble, rooms change shape and walls cave in without warning. It really feels like the level is attacking you and it's great. The grappling system is also applied to platforming, further enhancing the surrealism of Limbo as you leap across destroyed and floating landscapes. Rather than introducing entirely new and different environments, DMC takes rather normal settings such as city streets or office buildings and contorts them into a twisted, gorgeous delight.

Aside from obvious story gripes, there are a few flaws that hinder the overall experience. The most painful being the camera within smaller environments. Too many battles take place in small or narrow spaces, causing the camera to go haywire when trying to focus on one or more enemies. Manually trying to adjust the camera usually ends in failure as well. Many times while playing I died simply because the camera was being obstructed by an object or wall, making me blind to what was going on. Also, the devil trigger-- a staple for the Devil May Cry series-- is introduced far too late in the game. It can become very useful for some of the more difficult sections later on but does not last nearly as long as it should when activated.

The game can be quite funny at times (depending on your feelings toward crude and immature jokes) and though most of the voice acting is decent, it has moments that are just terrible. Just as the narrative starts to get serious, a bad quip or one liner from Dante usually ruins everything. The narrative as a whole felt very uninspired and weak. In game music is mostly a blend of metal and industrial with some dubstep type of stuff thrown in at times. Even if you're not a fan of that type of music, it fits right in with the modernness of the game. When outside of combat there are plenty of great ambient noises that work well with the settings.

Despite its glaring story and voice acting flaws, there is plenty more to enjoy from this game. Some of the bosses are truly original and fun to tear apart. All weapon and move upgrades can be tested before purchase. Even better is the ability to respec upgrades which really encourages players to find their most comfortable play style as early as possible. The graphics are all great, especially the facial animations. The best of all is the replayability of DMC. It's packed with unlockables, many of which cannot be obtained during your first playthrough. Not only is the game much funner on the second run, but it has four extra difficulty settings that are unlocked after successive playthroughs. These difficulties range from frustratingly difficult to absolutely insane. It's nice to see that some things have not changed with Devil May Cry, but play at your own (and probably your controller's) risk.

This is a great game with some obvious faults. Those faults should be expected at this point but it's still disappointing to see that the story wasn't worked on harder. Looking back at my time with DMC, I had a lot of fun but the amazing gameplay and stunning visuals are the only redeeming qualities of this game. Granted, in a video game those should be the ONLY required qualities, but games have evolved so much more than that over the years. It's all great fun to slash at hordes of enemies but it's considerably less fun if you don't like your character, or if you don't understand why they're doing it. Maybe not all of you agree with me and that's okay, but I feel that overlooking the story in a game like this is like cheating the player. Games as visually entertaining as this don't need to be mindless action and that's exactly what DMC comes across as: mindless. Though this title is bereft of any real depth (not counting the deep combo system) and feels as if Capcom is trying way too hard to be as cool and modern as possible with it, it has undoubtedly set the bar for future action games. There is just too much content here to not be hooked. If you end up picking up this one you won't be disappointed, but you should probably keep your own playlist nearby. Just in case.

Blog Post: A game worthy of the Devil May Cry title..

Devil May Cry, so many things can be said, but so little time. Let me start by using one word that describes the entire game, BADASS! This game hit so many right notes that could possibly be a contender for a category in the Game of the Year awards. We'll start with the concept of the story, and how that this game has brought a major revival in the series. The original had barely to none of a story and this game has completely corrected that. My only wish was that they did more with Vergil but this was corrected with Vergil's Downfall. The combat is as spot on as ever, its fluent, it's fun, but it is a little too easy. Enemies practically telegraph their moves which makes it very easy to evade their attacks, but this is a minor detail. The soundtrack couldn't have fit the action any more perfectly, it practically gave me energy to beat the *** out of each and every enemy. The graphics are pretty good but nothing overly spectacular, but again a minor issue. All in all DmC is a worthy game of the title that it was given, well done Ninja Theory.

File: Devil May Cry

Vergil's story continues

File: Devil May Cry

Vergil's story continues

File: Devil May Cry

Vergil's story continues

File: Devil May Cry

Vergil's story continues

File: Devil May Cry

Vergil's story continues

Blog Post: A reboot done right

If there was any franchise that needed a reboot, it was Devil May Cry. A better Dante where he does not come across as a two bit Spiderman, the world of Limbo that puts all DMC games to shame and awesome combat, this is my favorite entry in the classic franchise

Blog Post: DownPlay Reviews #8 - DMC: Devil May Cry

Finally, after 5 long years, the revered action title Devil May Cry has resurfaced to mixed commercial reception. I’m here to put the word mixed out of that equation. Similar to Resident Evil 6, another Capcom game has warranted fan outcry, although in Devil May Cry’s case, this whining is even less justified. Dante’s back, his hair is brown, and he doesn’t give a ***. Frankly, neither do I. If this is the defining factor in why you do or do not play certain games, you either need to find a new hobby or rethink your priorities. So the story opens with new Dante doing a whole lot of nothing living in a trailer at the carnival when this lady shows up looking for Dante, revealing to him that the world as they know it is under the slavery of demons. Not the forced labor kind of slavery, more like the subliminal messaging 1984 kind of slavery. Demons are in control of everything from the news network to the soda industry. Upon learning this, love-interest girl takes Dante to meet up with his brother Vergil, whose smugness and outfit screams, “I’m going to be a boss fight later, just you watch.” But if you read my Resident Evil 6 review or played literally any Capcom game, you’ll know that characterization is not exactly their strong suit. And while I consider characterization an important part of video game storytelling, I won’t criticize Capcom for it. Alright, enough of that story nonsense, let’s move on to the gameplay. I can honestly that the fantastic gameplay holds up the game even at the dullest moments. Not that there are many dull moments with a game as action-packed and spontaneous as this one. Throughout the years, Devil May Cry has been praised for its engaging and fast-paced combat, and Ninja Theory’s reboot is no exception. The combo system is fluid and fast-paced as you change between weapons and attack patterns. You got angelic weapons for light, fast attacks and demon weapons for slow, heavy attacks and you can chain the two together for some pretty epic combos. There’s also a great load of collectibles to be collected throughout the levels making use of grappling segments. In fact, this game has the most exploration I’ve seen in such a linear game. This exploration is made even more enjoyable by the fantastic aesthetic level design. DmC actually has some of the most creative and colorful levels I’ve played in a very long time. From going underneath a river to traverse an upside-down city, sabotaging a soda factory, platforming in a level designed around bombastic news intros, to a satanic game show, this game has some of the most unique and interesting aesthetic design I’ve ever seen. One particularly memorable scene is during the boss fight with the head of the news channel, where it cuts to a combat sequence from the point of view of a news chopper circling overhead, all the while hearing a running commentary by newscasters bashing Dante’s actions, his outfit, and even his sexuality. It was a unique experience that I won’t soon forget. Adding more variety to the combat is the wide range of enemy types. From your standard demons soldiers to chainsaw guys to fat bastards to big feral cat things, each unique in their attack pattern and method of disposal, and you can earn more combat techniques by being creative with your attack patterns. One of the things I found particularly disheartening about this game is the lack of challenge. Compared to the original or Devil May Cry 3, this game is far from that unforgiving, which may be good and approachable to new players, but to experienced players and fans of the series, there’s little to be had in the initial playthrough. You can unlock much harder difficulties after beating the game once, but I did my first play on the hardest available difficulty without so much as a stumble. So there’s that. Regardless of these small nitpicks, the combat, aesthetic, and level design make up for everything else, so quit complaining about Dante’s hair and get this game. It’s a faithful continuation of series and a boatload of fun. Next Week on DownPlay Reviews: Far Cry 3 P.S. Due to feedback from my Halo 4 review, I have decide to abandon my scoring system and I’m going to leave the interpretation of my opinion up to you, the reader. Sincerely, DownPlay Reviews.

Forum Post: Re: Too much platforming?

The game really is a little cloying. The game's scenary repeat many times, and the lack of bosses really bother, I like the game, but I think The game is not as coll as the other Devil May Cry's games. It is intended to direct a franchise in a new direction and gain a broader audience. I had no cons about the ideas behind the revitalizing of the series & its mythos, but merely with the execution of the ideas.

PRESENTATION: Very Good. The artistic story telling is fantastic in the game, as well as the in game text to amplify some action scenes. Menu has framerate issues but well laid out and simple to see.

GRAPHICS: Good. Environment immerses the player into it and framerate is fluid to follow the action. The game overuses the orange / red color palette as well as the green / blue one which tends to saturate the world you are in after a couple of hours into the game.

SOUND: Very Good. The soundtrack in the game is great and it delivers the theme of the game quite nicely. The voice acting is well done too, you can tell the brothers apart when they speak but also sense their relation...Mundus also delivered an impact performance. Sound effects are also very good but at times overwhelmed by the soundtrack.

GAMEPLAY: Good. Heavily hindered by the level design, the gameplay mechanics are seamless, very well rounded and easy to implement. The amount of combos stretches as far as your imagination can, switching between Devil & Angel weapons is fast and fluid and the controls are quick and responsive. The pacing of the game is questionable for an action game, specially for one with such a deep combo system. The camera is good and user controlled for the most part and even pauses enemies from attacking you if they are off screen. The Devil Trigger suspends enemies into the air this time around while you inflict damage. As usual some health regenerates and there is increased damage.

LEVEL DESIGN: Poor. This is where all the bad spots of the game came back to. The traversal through the game is mainly compromised by jumping. EVERYWHERE. It became tedious after seeing how much it consisted to go through a level, and it broke the pacing of the game considerably, since some areas there was just too much of it. Overall Limbo is designed somewhere out of the Deconstructivism movement, where things are broken parts of themselves and the pieces make up an ugly whole. The best level design for me was the Disco level, and something I'd revisit, weird boss and all. The environments turn dull towards the end, slowing the adventure down. One of the Boss fights implements the platforming quite well, and that probably was as far as it should have been taken to make up the level design.

STORY: Good. The new direction that they deviated the original storyline from was well implemented. Dante and Vergil being sons of a Demon & Angel, some type of anomaly that can extinguish evil is a believable storyline to start from. The explaining of their origin was engaging as well. The middle and ends of the plotline of the game however, are not.

BEASTIARY: Very Poor. The enemies in DmC are not much for variety. Apparently anywhere you go in Limbo the demons are pretty much the same. They have different types of the same enemies, where ones are vulnerable to either Angel or Demon weapons. Overall you will face upgraded versions of the same enemies throughout the game. One in particular should have been a boss because he was really cool to face, and his upgraded versions, since the 5 & a half boss fights in the 20 level game are deficient for an action game. They are mostly large, blob like figures instead of the fearsome creatures prevalent in games of this genre. They are quite the mixed bag & the fights consist of yes heavy PLATFORMING.

DIFFICULTY: Easy. Accurate. I played the game on the Nephilim ( Hard ) difficulty and I barely died, ever. The game difficulty seems just about right so anyone can just pick this up and kick ass. Be aware that restarting a checkpoint counts as a death in the game ( what? ) and the autosave feature will NOT hold on to your items if you've used them and then died ( or restarted ).

LASTING APPEAL:

Players of the previous games will most likely not favor this game too much. The story mode may be good for one play through, but the excessive platforming may anger God of War veterans as well as the lack of boss fights. Also being a short adventure ( +/- 8 hours ) and the lack of the Vergil DLC at launch to extend it, sadly is not enough to warrant a full retail purchase ( like I did ). I'd recommend holding off for God or War Ascension instead.

I rate it a 7.5 / 10.0

Blog Post: It does more right than wrong. Don't go into this game expecting to be blown away by it's story telling, it's not going to happen, but that in no way means the story in this game is awful, its just not it's strongest point. The story follows Dante, as you should know by now. Dante is Half-Demon and Half-Angel this time, rather than Half-Demon - Half-Human. His father Sparda being a Demon and mother Eva being an Angel. Because of this Dante is known as Nephilim, the only known race which can slay a Demon King.

The story progresses quite quickly and spans across 20 Missions. After some events, Dante ends up working with Kat, a Human and Vergil, a fellow Nephilim and Dante's twin brother. Some of the missions are quite short which is a shame, they could have added much more content and expanded on the story more than they did. But length of the title was never a Devil May Cry strong point either, but what they managed to capture in this short amount of time is good enough for it not to be much of problem.

There are some scenes that capture the different personalities of characters well, such as Dante's emotional side, Kat's fragility and Vergil's callousness. Its these scenes that really help to make the game great.

After hearing people say the ending of the game was rubbish, I wasn't holding much hope for it. But it's no where near as bad as they let on. In fact, it was pretty good. After playing the originals it's what I was expecting from the start, but the reasoning behind it I wasn't expecting.

Characters

The characters are actually a step up from the originals. The new Dante, although many people don't like him because of his profanity, he is a great character. They did well with his development throughout the game. You will notice his swearing becomes much less frequent as he matures through the game, but his good old cockiness and witty sense of humour stays with him throughout, which is of course, a positive. Considering they haven't spent much time together for reasons that will be explained in the game, Dante and Vergil have great chemistry between them, they even share the best bit of dialogue through Mission 18 I believe, let's just say, I laughed quite a bit.

Although its not really indicated, Kat seems to be one of the reasons Dante keeps on going through this whole ordeal. He goes out of his way for her and seems he would do anything to protect her.

The three main characters personalities compliment each other too, Dante being physically strong, Kat being mentally strong and Vergil being the smart one, they need each other to be able to reach their goal and even though Dante in the playable main character, he isn't shown as more important than the others. None of them are annoying and each of them are very like-able.

Gameplay

Gameplay is addictive and isn't repetitive at all. There's many skills available to unlock, 70 in total for 8 Weapons plus Dante's abilities, each weapon bringing it's own unique features to the field. Some much stronger and slower than others, whilst some are weak but fast. Weapon designs are also nice, they aren't the most imaginative of designs, but they aren't boring to look at either. A lock-on feature would have been a nice touch to the game-play, I found my self aiming at the wrong enemy, which resulted in me taking a battering since it was usually the tougher enemies.

The variety of enemies is also a positive, they are spread out throughout the game, because of this combat becomes less repetitive and more challenging when a new enemy is introduced and you don't know it's strategies.

The difficulty was a let-down. I played on the hardest difficultly available, which was Nephilim and got through the game without much of a problem. Although Dante Must Die difficulty introduces all the hardest enemies from the get go. In mission one you will find enemies that aren't introduced until around mission 10, and the health of enemies is significantly higher, but again, I didn't find it much of a challenge, although I haven't complete DMD difficulty yet, I'm presuming it gets harder as the game progresses, much like Nephilim did.

There is some replay-ability for the game. Harder difficulties, secret missions and releasing all of the trapped souls. Whether or not this will be enough to keep players re-playing the campaign is another matter. I'm aiming to complete each mission to 100% myself. But even if the game doesn't draw your attention after you finish the campaign, you should hold on to your copy since Bloody Palace is making it's way to the latest installment, as well a Vergil based DLC called 'Vergil's Downfall' where you will assume the role of Vergil and play through around 3-4 hours of content, supposedly. And who knows what other DLC is on the way.

Overall

Overall, DmC: Devil May Cry in my eyes is a welcome edition to the Devil May Cry franchise, and in many ways, improves upon the original series of games. The games does far more right than it does wrong and I can't wait to see what happens in the next DmC: Devil May Cry. Judging by the ending, it should be interesting.

The combat is fluent and there aren't any annoying characters. The replay-ability of the games isn't that high, but is enough to make you want to play through the game again and experience all the content. The voice acting is great from beginning to end, whilst the environments and scenery are extremely imaginative, this is one of the best conjured up worlds I've seen in a long time in a video game. Ninja Theory did an excellent job in creating an experience that won't be forgotten easily and without a doubt, rivals the originals for superiority. The music in this game must also be praised, it helps to create a more powerful, emotional and tense scenes, it's great at producing an atmosphere and also for the action parts of the game. It's very well composed and so must be praised for it's contribution towards the game.

The story, combat and characters are more than enough to keep you interested and see this game through to the end.

Blog Post: Everything that is wrong with modern gaming

My review of DMC - Devil May Cry

Some generic videogame cutscenes with unnecessary bad language and nudity followed by horrible music.
Dull mundane button mashing gameplay.
More poor cutsenes.
More dull gameplay

Rinse and repeat. The custscenes seem to last longer than the game itself, the characters are really generic and overall this game is a prime example of what is wrong with modern gaming. They put in so much OMFG ACKSHUN!!!!! That it becomes really boring.

I've also just realised that this is the first Devil May Cry game I've played and I feel ashamed. I've always been more of a Nintendo/home computer gamer so I've missed a lot of PS2 titles.

Blog Post: DmC review

Dmc/ Devil may cry 5 review game for Ps3 and Xbox 360

Warning this review contains spoilers however I highly suggest reading this if you are considering buying the new DmC game and are looking for less biased review of the game.

DmC or devil may cry 5 as some people call is the 5th installment of the Devil may cry series. DmC was developed by Ninja theory which is an independent video game developer based in Cambridge England. Ninja theory has developed three other games Kung Fu Chaos, Heavenly Sword, and Enslaved. DmC was published by Capcom the japannesee development company that has created the multimillion dollar selling franchises such as Megaman, Resident Evil, and Street Fighter. Capcom also developed the hack and slash action series Devil May Cry. Devil May Cry was originally supposed to be a spin off of Resident Evil however the series turned into its own series entirely.

DmC has received a lot of fan hate from the fans who enjoyed the original series. However there are fans of the new DmC some people like it and some people hate it. Ninja theory has received a lot of hate for the DmC remake especially the Game Director and Co writer of enslaved and heavenly sword Tameem Antoniades. Most of the hate is focused on the fact that Dante the main protagonist is not the same Dante that we know and love. His appearance in the 1st trailer is well eh I personally don't like it at all ( insert 1st DmC trailer here) The worst part was the smoking I'm so glad they decided to get rid of that I can't imagine any version of Dante smoking. "Seriously Ciggarettes are really bad for you kids don't smoke unless you want to be breathing out of an Iron lung!" Tameem even looks like the 1st trailer Dante.

However the redesigned Dante that you actually play as looks a lot better and his voice actor is pretty good too.

Not the best looking Dante but he is a lot better looking than the one they had in the 1st trailer. This Dante has a slightly more Western feel which is what Ninja theory was going for although the original Dante was Westernized as feel this Dante is more realistic which I'm not saying is a good thing or bad thing.

Characters-

I'm Starting out with reboot Dante( voice actor Tim Phillipps) first of course who is referred to by many of the games haters as Donte or Dino which I have to admit makes me laugh. This Dante has a very vulgar mouth he is especially fond of the word *** you which makes me laugh from time to time but I mst admit he does curse a lot. This Dante is also referred to by Bob Barbas as a sexual deviant. Dante has sex with two girls at the beginning of the game. Some of the fans on the game faq's and other form message boards have been complaining about this Dante having sex some have said they never even imagined the original Dante having sex because it was not touched upon.

Seriously look at this man and tell me you can't imagine him having sex with women.

I understand Dantes sex life was not touched upon in the original Devil may Cry but its not hard to imagine Dante having sex with women since he is a handsome guy. Hell the original Dante is even better looking than the new Dante so he definitely could get women especially with his calm chill sarcastic attitude. The new Dante makes me think of a less mature douchier Dmc 3 Dante which makes sense to me because he is younger. The biggest change in Dante's character was making him an Nephilim which is a combination of Angel and Devil. This is a huge change because the series was named Devil may cry because Dante was able to cry for his brother Vergil who decided to stay in hell. Lady then realized that Dante was a kind Devil and had some human traits ( the original Dante was half human). Lady realized that not all humans are good and not all Devil's are evil. The young Dante puts on the full Dmc 1 outfit and then names his shop devil may cry. The new Dante does become less of an *** throughout the game so I give him an okay rating overall not as funny as DmC 3 Dante and definitely more vulgar but this new Dante gets the job done.

Kat: Kat is the most important female character in the series( voice actor Sage Mears.) She works for Vergil who is the leader of the organization the order which is against the demons that control society through hidden messages from Limbo which can't be seen by ordinary humans. Kat is a wiccan she can cast spells in order to create barriers she can create an astral projection of herself from the real world into limbo she does this to guide Dante through some of the levels. You don't want to know some of the ingredients she uses to create these spells but they are very powerful she can also use the spells to create portals into limbo and out of Limbo. Dante eventually starts to care about Kat in a somewhat romantic way it could be possible that Dante has some romantic feelings for her which I can't blame him for she does look good in those short shorts.

Oh and Sage mears is cute as well if you like Kat so much that you would like to see Kat as a real person here you go

Vergil: Vergil ( voice actor David De Lautour)Vergil is the twin brother of Dante so he is also a nephilim and he is the leader of the order. This incarnation of Vergil is weaker than Dante however he is a lot stronger he was the main person who did the research in order to defeat Mundus. Vergil is also the last boss in the game he fells that now that humanity is free from limbo it is his and Dante's time to rule. The best thing about the fight is its pretty emotion you could feel that neither Dante nor Vergil want to fight each other. The fight ends with Vergil losing to Dante and then he teleports away to a place which I assume is hell due to the Vergils downfall dlc which has not come out yet.

Story- The main villain Mundus controls the real world through debt, his limbo hidden messages, demon's, the news media aka fox news, and the virility soda which is spiked by the succubus. The defeat Mundus Dante needs to lure him out of his office so Vergil can shut down the hell gate which makes Mundus immortal. Dante shuts down the media by killing Bob Barbas who is in my opinion at least the 2nd best boss in the game. Dante also kills the succubus which means Mundus can't spike the soda anymore. Eventually Mundus is lured out because Vergil kills his unborn heir and Dante taunts him for it. Towards the end of the game Vergil states he wants him and Dante to rule and protect the humans. Vergil loses in a fight to Dante and teleports away. The game has that whole modern the demons are controlling the humans through media and hidden messages kind of thing. Dante wants to kill Mundus because he killed his mother and imprisoned his father. This Dante still cares a lot about his mother like the past Dante. This incarnation of Vergil probably cares about his parents as well because he admits to loving his brother Dante.

Gameplay

All Devil may cry fans know that Dmc might not have the best story however it is loved by the fans due to it's gameplay. The new Dante still has rebellion and ebony ivory however he also gains arbiter Osiris and a few other weapons. My favorite is the ability to pull yourself towards enemies and the ability to pull them towards you with the angel lift and demon pull. The game is easier than previous Dmc wich is noticeable to me even though I've only played a bit of Dmc 4 and Dmc 3. However there are higher difficulties to play the game on like son of sparda mode, heaven or hell mode, and heaven and hell mode. Many of the games haters say the stylish meter is too easy to get to the S levels and you could get an SSS ranking by spamming the same combo's. However this is not true the game does require you to switch up your combo's and weapons. I would like to see you get an SSS ranking on son of sparda mode or higher spamming the same combo over and over. The game even forces you to switch your weapons to angel or demon in order to hurt certain enemies especially from son of sparda mode and higher. I will admit switching your weapon to angel or demon just to damage a specific enemy is annoying the previous Devil may cry did not force you to do that you would just use the weapon that fits the situation. The stylish meter is easier to get up than the previous devil may cry games however you can always play on a higher difficulty after you beat the game once. Nephilim difficulty is too easy for me as well. I have not brought this game yet though I am waiting for a price reduction however I have seen multiple walkthrough's researched the game and played the demo. I know more than enough about the game to make a judgement on the gameplay. The gameplay overall is pretty good actually it isn't the broken mess some people describe it as.

Skins: DmC offers a lot of skins such as the regular black haired Dante, white hair Dante, classic DMC 3 Dante, Dark Dante( which is Dante with white hair and a black jacket, and a neo Dante outfit. The classic Dante Dark Dante, and Neo Dante dlc is bundled together for 4 dollars which is a good deal especially since this is a Capcom published game and we know how much they enjoy putting out paid dc for half-finished games (cough cough Marvel vs Capcom 3)

Faults: The game does however have its faults like

1. No look on button this makes the game annoying but playabe it would be nice to know which enemy I will attack before I attack them. It would also be useful to lock on to some of the annoying flying enemies and then pull or lift yourself towards them.

2. Enemies only damaged by an angel or demon weapon this limits the combo;s you can use which in turn prevents your style gauge from going up as quickly.

3. The characters like Dante and Vergils are less cool than there original counter parts however the new ones are both decent in my opinion. Dante is douchier and a bit to vulgar it feels like his vocabulary is limited to *** and of course *** you it may be funny but he should expand on his vocabulary. Also Vergil is a bit of a whimp he was not much help in the Mundus boss battle.

4. The panels in Lilth's club that either damage you or don't affect you depending on if you are using a demon or angel weapon. I can tell that this is frustrating.

5. The combat does feel slower in this game due to it being 30 frames per second however it's not a huge deal as the grapple and aerial combo's make up for it a bit.

6. Dante's devil trigger forces the enemies into the air which makes them hard to hit. It takes to long to charge up from defeating enemies.. The devil trigger is more effective on bosses because it doesn't force them into the air.

7. Bosses patterns are easy to memorize.

Here's a couple of videos on DmC you should check out before getting the game or just watch it for fun.

Here's the first troll trailer we got on the new Dante.

  [View:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhoNEuH8KmA]

The sound track is also pretty amazing its done by Noisa and Combichrist

[View:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU976kGLD_s]

Oh and if your down with the spoilers check out the last boss battle

[View:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jorO16XO8AA&list=LLEGadcGk_S_LzYCy7t0tFTQ]

Final Verdict: I hate rating games out of 10. I would rather express my rating on games through words but well this is a review so I should give it a rating. DmC gets a 6.5-7 in my book. Its overall a good game nowhere near as bad as the people who are giving it zero's are saying it is yet the game is not perfect it shouldn't get a 10 out of 10 because it does have its problems. The game is worth a rental or a buy. I'm just waiting on a price reduction because I feel the game is worth 30-40 however I could see why someone would pay 60 for the game. This is a game that the haters are under ratings and a game that some of the fans are over rating. If you want to finalize your decision on buying this game I recommend checking out some walkthroughs there are so many walkthroughs of this game on youtube right now.

Blog Post: New story of DmC under Ninja Theory its not DmC 5

I love how this game looks, and it seems promising under a new company but of course capcom is the publisher. I played the demo and I was like everyone didn't like the new dante, but the fighting pretty much got me. Even though they had new button features etc. but once you get the hang of it you'll fall in love with this game. For real true DmC fans who don't care what changes their are then this game will excite you and hope for more from Ninja Theory. I saw reviews up for it hating on it before anyone possibly had a chance to play it enough to give it a fair review. I think it's perfect, the reason I didn't give it a perfect score is because I only give 10's to games that revolutionize a genre or gaming as a whole however I don't think DMC has any flaws, it's a perfectly executed third party action game with a perfectly serviceable story and AWESOME boss battles. People just like to complain about everything, do yourself a favor and pick this game up.

Blog Post: Review of DmC: Devil May Cry

The words “Devil May Cry” hold a lot of meaning for me. Devil May Cry was the first game I ever played for the PS2, and I’ve enjoyed every game in the series since it (except the second entry; what a shocker). I know Dante as if he were my own brother. I’ve seen him grow up, grow up some more and even take a backseat to another cocky little white-haired ***. I understand every aspect of Dante as a character.

That’s why it surprised me to hear some people complaining about the new Dante in DmC: Devil May Cry. He is the same Dante as before. He’s just younger and more immature. Weren’t we all that way once (I still am)? Don’t get me wrong; I was shocked when I first saw Ninja Theory’s new character design for Dante. Now that I’ve played the game, I get it. I see no problem with it.

I also see no problem with making Devil May Cry a little easier. I grew weary of getting my ass handed to me in the older games, which could be agonizingly frustrating at times, and “agonizingly frustrating” does not equal “fun”. If that makes me any less of a gamer as I’ve seen some users on Metacritic stupidly point out, I apologize. The thing is, it doesn’t. It’s just yet another dumb observation by a bunch of idiots who shouldn’t even be allowed to play video games.

Besides, DmC does stay true to its predecessors in the way that its combat is an absolute blast. I found myself getting all giddy when I nailed an especially impressive looking combo. I kept nailing cool combos throughout the game. It may have been because of my experience with the previous installments, or it may have been because of the lowered difficulty, but either way, it was awesome. The combat system is deep, satisfying and easily one of the best things about DmC.

It has tons going for it. It’s very fast-paced and exciting. As the game progresses, Dante gains angel and demon weapons. What this basically means is that one type, the angel weapons, are assigned to the left trigger, and the other type, the demon weapons, to the right. It’s a brilliant choice by Ninja Theory that allows players to mix things up by constantly swapping between each weapon type and Dante’s firearms.

New enemy types are introduced throughout the game, forcing players to strategize. For example, one enemy type might only take damage from an angel weapon, and vice versa. This can be one of the game’s biggest flaws at times due to the lack of a lock-on feature. I found myself aiming but hitting the wrong enemy type a lot of times, which was irritating. Thankfully, the lock-on has been replaced with a dodge button, which is a welcome addition to the series. It can stay right where it is, thank you very much.

Dante can also grapple toward enemies or pull them to him. This adds even more depth to an already broad combat system. He can also use his “grappling hook” to latch onto platforms in the environment. The platforming is kind of a letdown, but it has its moments. Still, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Ninja Theory changed it up a little bit in the inevitable sequel. It sometimes overshadows levels that are otherwise enjoyable.

Speaking of the levels, the environmental design is amazing. Dante has to make his way through a place known as Limbo, which is a world he gets pulled into for the majority of the story, and it’s a world full of wonderfully grotesque and picturesque vistas. Limbo in and of itself is an enemy type. It really does seem as if the environments are trying to kill Dante. It was an ingenious decision on Ninja Theory’s part to design the game in this manner. Exploration was my favorite part of DmC (and it often resulted in me getting a bad time rating at the end of the missions).

My least favorite part of DmC is definitely the story. It isn’t really all that different from the stories in the other Devil May Crys. A bunch of incoherent crap happens and Dante says dumb stuff. That’s about it. It attempts to make fun of society and FOX News, and all of that is funny at times, but it’s utterly useless as a meaningful storytelling method. The character named Bob Barbas is essentially an exaggerated version of Bill O’Reilly, which means he runs his mouth a lot about nonsense nobody gives a damn about.

The story is at its best when it’s exploring Dante’s past and developing him as a character. Dante realizes before the end of the game that he may have a bigger purpose in life than lying around in a mobile home, boozing and sleeping with women. I chuckled at a few of Dante’s unbelievably lame lines of dialogue, but a lot of them are just that–unbelievably lame and unfunny. It’s one thing to spout off Schwarzenegger-esque lines like “You’re fired”; it’s quite another to brag about your *** being bigger than someone else’s. That just emanates desperation.

DmC: Devil May Cry‘s strengths far outweigh its flaws. The story sucks, but the gameplay is great and the art style is better. I played through the game on the Devil Hunter difficulty, and it was pretty easy. The thing is, I feel compelled to play through it several more times. I love it. 2013 has started off with a bang.

Blog Post: The game ROCKS!

I Know a lot of people are "crying" because of Dante new look.
