Not A Human Revolution Sequel

Earlier this week, Square Enix and Eidos Montréal teased a new title called Deus Ex: The Fall. Many had hoped that this would be a sequel to 2011's fantastic Human Revolution coming to consoles and PC. That is not the case.

Eidos announced today that Deus Ex: The Fall is coming to iOS devices. It's a sequel to the novel Icarus Effect and stars a former mercenary Ben Saxon. He has been betrayed by his employers and is on the trail of a conspiracy.

The setting is 2027, the same year as Human Revolution. The visuals have the same grimy urban feel with the familiar golden hue overlaid.

As for the gameplay, according to executive game director Jean-Francois Dugas, "It was really important for us to make the gameplay as simple as possible." The title features new augmentations, and a user interface that allows players to move icons around the HUD.

Square Enix recently stated it would be focusing more on mobile titles. It seems that those plans are already in motion. Deus Ex: The Fall will be at E3 next week in the Square Enix booth and available for purchase later this summer for $6.99.

  • Nice way to treat the fanbase that has stuck with you through the years, guys.

  • Ahhh, mobile?!?!  Come on!

  • I had a feeling it was going to be a mobile game.

  • All I've wanted since my mind was blown in 2001 by the original was a game, is a sequel with the same UT99 engine, same crappy graphics, same crappy voice acting, same awesome gameplay, story, music, characters and atmosphere where you play as JC FREAKING DENTON...... this was my favorite game of all time, and the two sequels didn't hold a candle.

I know I'll catch flack for it, I don't care, HR was not that great of a game. IW was better in some ways. I was really bored by it, the boss battles sucked and the DLC was blatantly ripped out of the game. That's the reason for the 9 month delay, they weren't polishing it, they were ripping it apart so they could sell a 6 hour part of the full game as DLC...

And then there's the last level.... you can beat it with about six gas grenades and the Icarus landing system.... I was very disappointed with Panchea. I felt ripped off, I had built up my character and weapons to get to the last level where you don't need any of it.

And now this.... a game for IOS only, not even droid..... Thanks for ruining my favorite IP Square, thanks a lot.....

Let's hope Fallout 4 will fill the void that is now in my heart. Fallout 3 was so much more like the game I wanted HR to be...
  • And this is why people hate Square Enix, they have a core game that achieved good success and instead of giving us a sequel on a reasonable platform, they're giving us a *** mobile game.

  • Kool. I'll have to read the book.
Hope it does well and look forward to a sequel to HR.

    :)
