The Revolution is a Success

Normally, I would've never picked up a Stealth game.  It's not that I hate them, but with being a high school with a minimum wage job, I have to choose carefully what gets my $60.  That's why what really drove me to buy this game at first, was Square Enix.  It's always been my favorite company, and that they saw something in this told me that I should too. Then, the game itself started becoming interesting to me.

About a year ago, I saw a video detailing the augmentations you could get, and I instantly thought it incredible.  I counted down the days until it was released, even pre-ordering it - the first game in years.  When it was released, and I finally got a chance to play it, I was hooked.

First of all, the game is gorgeous.  The animations and character models aren't breathtaking, but the world itself is. Secondly, the game play is solid.  Although it is firstly a stealth game, there is gun play, and it holds up pretty well.  Getting a head shot feels incredible and the nice XP boost it tells you you've received is comforting. Also, the sound is above-average.  It's not the most innovative or breathtaking soundtrack in a modern game, but it does stand out in the crowd. Basically, everything about the game is at least solid, if not better.  Except for one thing, bosses.

The ******* bosses.  I wish there was a way to stealthily kill the bosses. Instead, the game pits you in an arena with a *** brute, ninja, or just plain jerk that will kill you in a matter of seconds if you don't use cover like it's your job.  This is really annoying, as it easily frustrates you to the point of turning it off for the night, only to try again and fail tomorrow.

That was only my main issue with the game though. The fact that only one of your batteries recharges irked me, but I lived with it, and you know what, it actually added to the stealth component in my opinion.

I'm currently in the middle of my no-kill playthrough, and I'm loving it even more than the first playthrough. If you were skeptical of getting this game, but are a fan of Stealth games, you're really hurting yourself by not playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
