New Dark Souls II Trailer Goes Beyond Death

When Dark Souls was being promoted, it was with the tagline, “Prepare to Die.” Everything we’ve seen about Dark Souls II suggests that death will be an omnipresent force. That’s why we were surprised by this new trailer.

“This is not about death,” it begins. It isn’t until near the end that this sentiment begins to coalesce into the true spirit of From Software’s series.

Dark Souls is about what you learn from death. It’s about taking the mistakes and turning them into lessons.

You’ll be able to transform those expirations into edification on March 11. Dark Souls II is coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. For more, check out the March 2013 issue of Game Informer for an in-depth look at the game.

  • I cannot wait for this game! This trailer got me even more excited too!
  • This is the game I'm most hyped for right now. I'm currently playing the first Dark Souls (recently got it on Xbox Live for $5) and I've been completely consumed by it. I probably won't get to the sequel on release day, but I did pre-order it from Amazon since I was able to get it for free with some rewards money. Black Armor Edition, baby!
  • My collector's edition can't come soon enough! This will be my Game of the Year.
  • From my point of view the best ever Trailer / Alleged serial killer has 'an affinity' for 'death laden' Dark Souls http://www.n2g.us/2014/02/dark-souls-2-new-trailer.html
  • Could not have put the spirit of the franchise in better words

  • Man, this trailer makes me feel like crap. This absolutely captures the feelings that true Dark Souls fans have when playing. My only regret is that, while my desire to beat the game is there, my skill, apparently, is not. Unless I spend another 10-15 hours mindlessly farming souls, I'm pretty much toast. I can't beat the four kings, and if I can't beat them I will NEVER been Gwyn, so whats the point? I'm proud of my accomplishments, I made it further than I honestly ever thought possible when I started...but then I fell in love with the game, and all I want is to beat it, but I can't. I've never experienced that before. It's crushing me. And this trailer makes me feel like an absolutely failure for it. I am not part of the community of people who beat Dark Souls...and that makes me so very, very sad. I have "gathered all that I have" over and over and over again, and I always found a way. But I think it finally beat me. I just can't keep going. I beat Ornstein and Smough. perhaps that's enough... (weeps in the corner)
  • Super excited for this game, the trailer felt very Hallmark channel to me though.

  • That trailer was terrible. It was like one of those hammy motivational speeches. But this is still the game I am most excited about.
  • The way he ran up on that dragon while dual wielding Great Axes though!
  • Mod
Dark Souls II, MGSV: GZ, and Infamous: SS in March. Then The Evil Within in August. It's going to be a great year for me in regards to gaming.
  • Yo Futter, I think you already used that headline before.
  • Meh, I don't want to learn anything from death. I just want a cookie for my hard earned losing.
  • Angers me to no end htis game is coming out the same day as Titanfall, I will receive no sleep that entire week!
  • Woooooo! Let's do this, I'm so ready for march 11th. I have to admit this trailer didn't really fit the vibe of "dark souls" IMO, the narrater and music seemed out of place......still liked it though!
  • Mod
I still need to play Demon's Souls and the first Dark Souls.
  • Anyone else notice the Primordial Serpents at the end?
  • This trailer is so americanised I barfed, doesn't do the franchises atmosphere and style any justice
  • Hell, I'm not even that interested in his game, just not my cup of tea, but that was one *** boss trailer

  • Voice over was horrible and made little sense for the most part.

The gameplay was very interesting however, and seems to affirm the Dark Lord ending of DkS as canon.

  • DAY !
