We take a journey back a generation to find out Dance Central 3's retro songlist and new features.

The basic storyline of DC 3 (yes, there is a story) is that Dance Central Intelligence has to travel through time to fight dance crime. We don't know much more than that at this point, but we did get to see the new Crew Throwdown mode in action. Here, two teams of up to four each face off in a series of new minigames. In the beginning, the crews take a photo together and the game uses everyone's headshots to call them to the dance floor. Once the two players are ready, they do a high five and the minigame begins.

Keep the Beat allows players to dance any way they want to and keeps a running tab on your moves. You can get a rhythm going, but don't repeat the same move too much or your score will suffer. Make Your Move works kind of like the game of Horse. You can invent and record your own dance moves and then the other person has to repeat them to get the points. Everyone gets a turn and then in the last wave of Crew Throwdown the teams send their best dancer in for a final face off.

Dance Central 3 will also support a mobile companion app (and possibly Xbox 360's SmartGlass) that will let players manipulate the playlist while others are dancing, keep tabs dancing fitness goals, and send out Xbox Live challenges.

Here are the announced songs so far out of the final 40+ list:

50 Cent – “In Da Club”
Cali Swag District – “Teach Me How to Dougie”
Cobra Starship ft. Sabi – “You Make Me Feel …”
E.U. – “Da’ Butt”
Edward Maya & Vika Jigulina – “Stereo Love”
Gloria Gaynor – “I Will Survive”
Marcia Griffiths – “Electric Boogie”
Usher ft. Will.I.Am – “OMG”
Usher – “Scream”
Van McCoy – “The Hustle

All of your songs from previous Dance Central games will be importable into DC 3. If you add all that up with DLC released over the years, the total library will number over 140 tracks by the time this comes out in the fall.

Now that you've got all the details, see the game in action in the debut trailer below:
