Atlus Bringing Political RPG Citizens Of Earth To Wii U And 3DS

Publisher Atlus has made a name for itself bringing Japanese games like Persona to North America, but Citizens of Earth puts players in the role of the Vice President of The United States.

Developer Eden Industries ran a Kickstarter for the game last year, and despite not meeting its funding goal, Atlus saw something it liked and is bringing the game to the 3DS and Wii U eShops. In the game's Kickstarter pitch, Eden Industries writes, "Citizens of Earth combines the modern setting and humorous tone of Earthbound with the recruitment mechanics of games like Pokémon and Suikoden." Instead of building a party of fantasy-character heroes, as it occurs in most RPGs, the Vice President builds a party made up of regular people with normal jobs like, teachers, bakers, and used car salesmen.

You can check out the trailer for the strange game below, which is coming to 3DS and Wii U September of this year.

  • The Vice President: When you need a politician who's important, but not too important.
  • Hahahah thanks, Atlus. Man, I luv those guys.

  • I'm on the fence. It looks quirky and endearing, but I don't know how FUN it'll be (yet). I'll keep my eyes on it...

  • Eh, never liked pokemon much. I'll keep my eye on it since its Atlus, but its doubtful I will pick it up.

  • Ooh, politics, my favorite @-@

Well, Earthbound, Pokemon and Atlus. You have my attention.

  • Set it during Bush's presidency... oh wait, we already have that. Dungeon Keeper.
  • So is this what it would be like to be inside Al Gore's head?

  • A little more gameplay needs to be shown before I commit, even if it is Atlus.

  • I will be curious to see if this game goes over well. If it does, we may see Atlus USA publishing more indie games like this in the future.

  • I remember this when it was on Kickstarter. I pledged a few towards it, glad to see it's still getting off the ground. I think it had a nice lil nuance to it's style, kinda like Earthbound in some regards. Curious to see how it ends p.

  • Why isn't the team self-publishing? Curious to see how this turns out.

Because wasn't the Headless Body of Spiro Agnew the VP?

  • Looks cool. I think I'll be getting it on the Wii U as my 3DS memory is full and I don't know how to transfer my data to a bigger SD card.
