Ubisoft Montreal's Painting Come To Life Gets A Release Date

Players eager to dive into the gorgeous world of Lemuria can now mark their calendar.

Ubisoft announced today that Child of Light will be released digitally on April 30 on Xbox Live for both the 360 and Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 through PlayStation Network, the Nintendo eShop on Wii U, and through Steam on PC. Child of Light is rated Everyone 10+ and will be available for $14.99.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the game is a reimagining of classic fairytales and combines turn-based combat inspired by classic Japanese RPGs with a stunning painted art style. Wondering how the game has such a beautiful, hand-drawn look? That’s because it is. Using Ubisoft’s UbiArt Framework, artists can breathe life into their concept art by placing it directly into the game.

Players take on the role of the young girl Aurora, who is stolen from her home. On her quest to return she will have to bring back the sun, moon, and stars being held captive by the Queen of the Night. Aurora will be accompanied by a firefly named Igniculus as the two set out upon a modern coming-of-age story.

  • Been interested in this and with a $15 entry fee it'll be hard not to give it a try.

  • I love this art work a lot, and for $15 it would be hard for me to pass up. Can't wait for this on my X1.

  • I have been waiting for this forever.

    Bring it.

  • Yea I think I'm definitely going to be playing this day one. Usually not my kind of game, but I'm busting my bubble and trying new stuff out. The visuals are crazy good and the gameplay looks tighter than bark on a tree.

  • That's Nice ubisoft. BUT CAN YOU ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE DATE OF WATCH DOGS ALREADY!

  • Huh, I didn't realize it was downloadable. At any rate, I'll be firing up the eShop April 30th (or more likely, May 1st as that's a Thursday and eShops update on Thursdays) to download this one.

    Does it use Uplay?

  • Yes for next generation the reasonable pricing continues. i will buy this for sure!!!!!!!

  • It looks cool, I just cant get into that style of game

  • This game looks really cool. I like the look of the battles.

  • Im a little disappointed that its not a full retail game. The price is nice, but I was hoping it would be a 40+ hour game.

  • Really enjoyed the new trailer. Great to hear about a price point and release date. I can't wait to check it out.

  • I'll be buying the crap out of this game. This is the kind of video game that makes me glad I still play. Realism is all well and good, but give me a gorgeously animated fantasy game instead every time.
  • I don't know what this is but I like it.

  • Excellent. First day buy for me

  • $14.99? Day one buy.

  • WANT. WANT. WANT. WANT.

  • Looks like this will be awesome. But I wish it was on vita too.
